    Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***

Hopefully I will start my franchise tonight... Really looking forward to it.

I know (Seeing how it's been years since I've done this type of game) that I'll make some mistakes but I'm sure it will be fun.

If OOTP is like going down a rabbit hole, then making a fully fictional league is the black hole inside the rabbit hole. Definitely a plethora of things to consider. If you gentlemen do go fully fictional at some point, I highly recommend the retro logo/uniform thread on OOTP Developments Forum in the mods section. I have spent many an evening lovingly scrolling thru all the artwork and plotting to put a minor league affiliate in Bangor, Maine or Truckee, California or... That thread is a gold mine.

I really wanted to create a pro/rel league but I gave up on that after trying for 30 minutes. I might try that again in the future.

For now, doing a stats only save with the Rox like I always do.

Just in case anyone is wondering, "stats only" is when you turn off all hints of player ratings/potentials and have the AI calculate player value based on only their stats. People like this because it's extreme "fog of war," makes it a bit harder to stack your team a few years down the road, and appeals to people who dislike discrete OVR ratings in your face. For added difficulty, some turn their scouting to "very low" and turn up talent change randomness to 150 or 200 so that players fluctuate more from year to year. Lots of different variations, but the main thing is the stats count and the ratings are not accessible.

Yep, that's what I do. After trying this out couple years ago, I can't go back to ratings.

Also won a world series with an expansion team in like year 6 in '18. It's challenging but more enjoyable for me.

I have always loved this about OOTP, there's so many options and ways to customize the game to how you want it to play.

The new UI looks fantastic and in general it seems a big step up from previous installments. They really outdid themselves with 19.

Same here... I am doing that plus in my 1985 Franchise I turned off historical transactions etc.. as I don't want a "replay" but a new 1985...

Those that are doing a GM/Manage Franchise..
Are you controlling all or are there some things you are letting AI do?

Not sure I want to dive so far I drown so just looking for some input.

Normally I control everything, but for this first one I gave my assistant GM something to do: setting budgets, sign international amateurs, sign/fire minor league personnel, minor league promotions/demotions/strategy. I basically have him managing day-to-day stuff in the minors.

I kind of want to see how smart my assistant GM is and if he effs up, it's no soup for him...

Also have "minor league managers" in control of minor league free agent signings & releases and minor league lineups/depth charts/pitching staffs (but I set global settings to sabermetric lineups and to start highest potential players).

Oh boy. The rabbit hole is open. Going to do stats only, let my assistant GM handle all international and minors, turn historical transactions off (like Skyboxer running with a 1985).

Now since we downloaded the beta yesterday what happens on the 21st? Our beta automatically updates to a full release? Or we download again and transfer the file we create on the beta?

Haven't started anything...lol. All this talk of rabbit holes, I not only fell into one, but kept finding newer and deeper ones to go through. That said, I think I've landed on doing two leagues, primarily.

One will be a league expansion creating a NC team to control and bringing back the Expos as the other team. The other league will be a historical somewhere in the late 90s with me added as a prospect. I might do a "what if" and take the steroids out of the steroid era.

I'm going full commissioner mode for the control. I'm going to leave most of the editing alone to start, but I like having the option to override, if needed.

Ratings will be off, scouting will be low, and I'll be in heaven!

There will be a full version "update" that beta customers can download. Should have lots of fixes and tweaks with it as well.

The whole "Stats only" thing sounds interesting, but I have one very important question about it - how does the AI see its players when evaluating? Can it see the ratings that the human player can't?

I'm guessing they aren't able to see those ratings, who knows. This is how I set it up

On the settings, I only have the "other ratings scale" to display since that shows defense and baserunning.
