i have the game but as an enthusiast coming from the Uk, playing MLB The Show and Football Manager i'm having a hard time getting into it. when i play the actual games how much can i actually influence the game other than setting up lineups?? i think with my lack of knowledge of the finer details of contracts, waivers and the sport in general its not helping. what is a good way to get started ?? how do you guys actually play out the game ??

Baseball is less involved than Football from a managerial perspective. You can set your defensive positioning or tell guys to steal bases, take a pitch but it's not like running sets with your club.

I would recommend taking it day by day from the schedule and also simming a season so you can get to the off season stuff where you'll learn more of the GM aspects of running a team.

OOTP, while deep, isn't as deep as FM. That's a simple fact so you're likely missing some of the real in-depth stuff FM has already built and nearly mastered like managing relationships, the media, and your board.

Some of those things are in this title but they are minimal and don't impact the game or your job as much.

An interesting exchange from OOTP forums that I thought might be relevant to the contract demands we've been seeing...

I love the game so far but can you please tune the player contract demands.

No, these are demands and are realistic. If you negotiate well they will sign for far less

So, in other words don't rule someone out based on the sticker price and negotiate harder than you've ever negotiated before! lol


Also, they are releasing a patch (hopefully on Wed.) that has some stuff in it that was literally asked for just a few days ago. The responsiveness of this OOTP dev team is nothing short of historic.

Patch notes from the man himself:

- Improved Opening Day Rosters (need to create a new game for changes to apply)
- Added option to show player awards in the player profile completely, only one or only three per category (Settings dialog)
- Added the option to compare players on the pre-game screen sorted by position rather than lineup spots
- Added "Player labels color" option to the pre-game options, you can choose "Automatic" (which was the default and chooses between the team background & text color depending on which has the highest contrast to the logo) or "Team Background" which uses the team background color for player labels and other UI elements.
- Outs in the modern in-game screens are now indicated with red dots instead of yellow
- Fixed voting page qualifiers
- Fixed some event notifications (no longer display ! once HOF ballot has been cast)
- Fixed some options not being available in minor leagues or leagues with reserve rosters
- Fixed several 3D in-game player movements
- Fixed errors in the historical databases
- Tweaked inaugural draft AI
- Several fixes for two-way players (AI valuation, fatigue, league setting)
- Fixed several cosmetic issues and other bugs

Yeah, these negotiations are actually pretty fun. Being on a shoe string budget I found out in practice that these are in fact negotiations, players are always going ask for the moon, as long as you don't literally insult them (to the point they say shove off) there will be a back and forth. From everyone to the highest priced free agents to the depth guys you only want on minor league deals to fill out AAA with emergency players.

Hey all, before I purchase, I wanted some clarification. How editable are rosters and such? Like can I make as many adjustments as I want before beginning a franchise?

Not sure you can do anything to rosters outside of a franchise but once you start one, put yourself in Commissioner mode and you can edit anything and everything, force trades (to move players around), etc.

So you can do all that before you even start a day.
