Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
I don't mind the idea of Perfect Team and I feel confident this team will not let it ruin the main OOTP experience. I have always liked the concept of Ultimate Team/Perfect Team/ Diamond Dynasty modes, but what has always put me off in those modes in games like Madden or NHL is just the way people play online, not the modes themselves. Putting together a team of greats sounds amazing to me. Jackie Robinson and Hank Aaron on my team together with Roger Clemens is making my mouth water, but playing the kids online that populate games these days turns me away from those modes quick.
I will be interested to see how OOTP does it, but I won't lie, those modes excite me more when it is a style of game I play the on field action. Making a perfect team in a text sim doesn't have the same appeal to me.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Thing is, you can already put together a team of all-time greats in OOTP. This new thing is a gateway drug.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

True, I guess the online competitive side of it is what sets it apart from what you can always do in your own leagues. We'll find out soon enough with OOTP 20 and on if it takes away from the experience we all crave.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
It strikes me more as an insidious slow killer. DD wasn't the oxygen-sucking behemoth it is now until a few years after being implemented. I also think the OOTP crowd will be a little more resistant to an ultimate team/microtransaction/revenue type of mode compared to Joe Schmoe PS4 gamer. We may have problems in OOTP25, I'm thinking.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I agree with the bolded part 100%. I think that alone may be what keeps thsi from ever really knocking this franchise down. The devs are some of my favorites. They seem to care about their fans and listen to them so if this thing flops, they are the type of team I can see realizing what their fans want and not ruining a good thing.
Maybe I am giving them too much credit?“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

We'll see. I hope you two are right, though."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Also OOTP already has an amazing solo game and "franchise mode". So to make the experience worse, they would have to remove features.
Meanwhile we are still waiting on certain features from old gens to come back or for an actually good franchise mode in most, if not all, console games.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Since I brought this up, I wanted to re-post an exchange I had with Markus (OOTP creator and lead developer and CEO) in response to my concerns about their Perfect Team:
Originally posted by WTNYAs someone who is spending a lot more time playing OOTP this year (instead of MLB The Show) because Sony has been consistently ramping up its cash cow Diamond Dynasty mode at the expense of offliners/traditional Franchise mode stuff, this announcement about Perfect Team has me extremely concerned. I just hope the OOTP brain trust realizes how revenue modes make it almost too easy for a game to turn its back on long-term enthusiasts.Originally posted by MarkusNo worries. The MLB the Show guys really ****ed it up (in my humble opinion) when it comes to some decisions where to focus their resources. And taking away features is never, ever, smart. We will not make the same mistakes, our core game will always be the #1 focus as long as I am running this company...
I don't think I'll ever be 100% confident after what has gone on with console game devs saying certain things and most definitely doing others...but, I think this response from Markus hits back at all the fears I'd have about this game adding the Perfect Team mode. For one, OOTP has a fantastic history of listening to its customers and there is really no debate about that. Second, he sees the same thing many of us do about what has gone on with console baseball games recently, ahem, removing features and devoting all their resources to the profit motive. Thirdly, removing features doesn't seem likely and that's really what could potentially make the game less perfect than it is now.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
We're fortunate enough to have OOTP be in the shape it is now unlike The Show to where if they were to put too many resources into PT and neglected the core experience that we'd still have an amazing single player foundation to fall back on. The Show is a disappointment anymore so us single player guys don't have as much to lean back on with that game like we do OOTP.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
So with my first playthrough of OOTP 19 I have decided to go with a team I have never gone with before in baseball. The Minnesota Twins.
My primary focus for the 2018 season is to try and compete in the...let's say lacking AL Central.
I was given a few goals:
1) Reach the Playoffs this season by 2018
- I agree with this goal. This team seems like a contender after 2017's shocker, and we should do our best to achieve the status of a playoff contender.
2) Sign Brian Dozier to an extension by 2019
- This one I might loophole out of because I personally don't want Dozier here past 2020.
3) Acquire a Cy Young winner by 2021
- This one will be a fun goal to contend with. I have a few names I am thinking of as of right now, but we will see how that pans out during the season!
4) Reach the World Series by 2023
- End goal of course.

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Holy cow this game is fun!
The AI has done fantastic with trades. It is July 27th and the last few days have been crazy with trades like real life typically is!
Only three blockbusters, which is nice, so far!
Zach Britton + Orioles 5th rounder to Nationals for Juan Soto
Paul Goldschmidt to Cardinals for Jed Gyroko + 2 prospects (Woah!)
Jean Segura to Boston for 2 prospects
My Twins have been playing very well! 66-36 2 1/2 GB of Cleveland.
I have made some trades. Landing Raisel Iglesias, Joakim Soria, Blake Swihart, and the Cuns approached me on Javy Baez.
Byron Buxton - .287/.349/.462
Joe Mauer - .323/.394/.427
Kennys Vargas - .272/.348/.465
Miguel Sano - .281/.359/.577
Eddie Rosario - .293/.328/.513
Jorge Polanco - .235/.304/.333
Javy Baez - .417/.569/.778 (11 games)
Eduardo Escobar - .293/.333/.524
Blake Swihart - .206/.250/.412 (10 games)
Jose Berrios - 5.23 ERA
Adalberto Mejia - 8-0 3.21 ERA
Phil Hughes - 3.73 ERA 8 Saves
Jake Odorizzi - 4.27 ERA
Stephen Gonsalves - 3.38 ERA
Kenley Jansen - 0.77 ERA 4 Saves
Joakim Soeia - 2.00 ERA 16 Saves
Raisel Iglesias - 2.13 ERA
Addison Reed - 2.36 ERA
Taylor Roger's- 3.02 ERA
Have some injuries as well such as Lance Lynn. Pressley and Duffy are filling in the bullpen.
