Re: How is your franchise doing in OOTP11?

I've been playing. No time to really update you guys, but I'm still doing good. Even with the injuries to Chipper Jones, Troy Glaus, and Yunel Escobar... Nate McLouth and Jason Heyward are really carrying my team. I drafted Manny Machado but seemed to have rushed him... he was dominating GCL and Danville so I brought him up to Rome, and he struggled. Since then, he had a ratings drop so I dropped him back down to Danville for the time being.

My rotation of the future is shaping up well with Hanson and Jurrjens having great seasons and Randall Delgado doing a good job in AA Mississippi. He'll start the year next year in AAA with a shot to make the team in June. Mike Minor is the same. Teheran and Vizcaino aren't exactly dominating Myrtle Beach but are putting up good K numbers.

So what's the best way to develop players in this game? Do you guys keep them in the minor for a while then bring them up or do you give them shot and see how they do? I was able to pry Desmond Jennings for my Blue Jays game and he's been struggling so far.

Also, what is progression like and what can I do to give my players the best shot at getting to their potential?

Lastly, I started playing out my games - I set all my controls to my manager except subs. My team can't seem to hit worth a lick. Is there something I did wrong or am I just going through a bad stretch. I'd think with guys like Hill, Lind etc, they could get hits for me

Enjoying the game - need more practice though

First, potential is a double edged sword. If you play with scouts, you never really know what kind of player you have unless you look at his ratings. As far as development goes, I develop them slowly especially if they're young. I don't rush any of my prospects unless I REALLY need to. I don't promote them to the next level until they're doing good or are just flat out dominating the opposition.

As far as your schedule goes, who knows if you're just on a bad stretch. It's tough to play as the Blue Jays. You may want to just develop through the draft and hope you can outplay the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays. Try to build through pitching and defense before offense as that is much more financially-efficient than going for the bigger power bats.

        Good luck.

Re: How is your franchise doing in OOTP11?

As Matt said...potential is very hard to evaluate, even with the scouts. You have really got to keep an eye on your young guys. I've had to rush guys up, because of the injurys I've had to my pitching staff, and it has taken a toll. I think I have ruined one of my best young pitchers...he has been rocked and has dropped 8 - 10 pts.

Unlike the Show...this will take some time to get your team at a top level. What I am trying to do is get some young talent, at positions I need vs going and sign an Vet who is only going to be around a year or so.

This game makes you think more about the long run, and how your moves are going to affect you 2 - 3 years down the road. Either way...you will figure it out...and enjoy the game for years.

Re: How is your franchise doing in OOTP11?

Thanks guys Really appreciate the help. Finished my first month 13-11 and sitting in second in the AL East behind the Rays, who are loaded with talent BTW.

Aaron Hill and Yunel Escobar have carried my team so far while Lind and Wells have really struggled. It also hurts I can't get rid of Wells and his ridiculous contract.

My pitching has been fairly decent. Romero, Marcum, Morrow, and McGowan are pitching deep into games and Gregg has done well so far.

I was able to get Kendry Morales for some prospects and Overbay while I sent another prospect to Tampa to get Desmond Jennings. With my young staff developing as well as a nice lineup with upside, I think I'll achieve my goal of .500 ball.

I still have Arencibia and Cecil in the minors and I'll be looking to build through the draft and development. With my core of Hill, Lind, Morales, Snider, Bautista, Wallace, and Jennings, I'm good offensively. My main targets in the draft will be pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

Re: How is your franchise doing in OOTP11?

I'm starting a game with the World of Baseball 11 mod found on the OOTP Boards. It has a ton of leagues, but be warned if you are interested, it is a MAMMOTH file. 200+ MB with just the basics.

Anyways, i will be starting as Pittsburgh and try and bring them back to their glory days.

EDIT: Lol, i can't even load it. I'll just go with the 2010 MLB Quickstart from the game.

Noticed you have a Red's Logo....so why not the Reds. Thats my favorite team, and just started over sitting at 15-10. Started over because the first season, I just didn't plan or took care of my minor leagues.

I am very indecisive when it comes to choosing teams, but the Reds are my favorite team, and i will tell you last night i did start a game with the Reds.

Just so you know, Mike Leake was an absolute BEAST for me. 19-5, 2.64 ERA, won the Rookie of the Year Award AND the Cy Young Award.

What's a good way of making sure you're taking care of the minor leagues? I've left control to my managers except for signing and releasing of players

I personally have my managers set lineups/depth charts and demote/promote through the minor leagues only. Then, every now and then, i click on my team's drop down at the top of the screen, and go to reports, then click minor league system.

This will show you if the players are ready for the next level or if they are overmatched.

Yea....do about the same, only think I check about every week or so to see if someone is hot/cold and maybe adjust the lineups.

Ok, so i finished my first season with the Reds 99-53, but then got swept by the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

On to the second season, i picked up Cliff Lee and Mariano Riviera in Free Agency, then went 98-54. In the first round, we beat the Nationals 3 games to 1, but lost in the NLDS to eventual champions St. Louis (the wild card) 4 games to 1.

I'm heading into the 2011-2012 Offseason. The aforementioned Mike Leake blew his arm out, injured for 10 months.

Hope you can turn it around in the playoffs. Good to see a winning record. I'am trying to play out most of my games after the restart....just to see if I can get more of a feel for the players. Surprised even after the Lee, and Riviera pick up, you finished about the same....is that a Division Title in both years?
