You can't just refuse to play a SEGA Sports game.

Uh oh... don't tell me... have you even PLAYED ESPN Football!?

If you didn't you better play it now before it's too late!!!

I'm sorry, but I do refuse to play sega games. And I can if I want too.
Here's honestly why. Do you ever get use to playing a certain brand of games, and you just feel at home with it. For instance, every year madden changes their menus and presentation up a little bit, for a fresh look. But everytime, I feel like I've played that game thousands of times. I just feel at home with it. I bought a NHL 2k3 game last year, and I started it up, I felt absolutely lost on it. It just wasn't what I was use too. I also tried NBA 2k3, again, I'm just not comfortable with their presentation. I feel very comfortable with ea sports games, and I've played enough ASB to be comfortable with it as well. And honestly, those two sports are really the only games that interest me. I haven't played a non-sports game since I owned my nintendo 20 years ago. I just like to be comfortable. Routine.
I'm out.

I accept that all games will have flaws. Nothing's perfect. But the joy of pitching in MVP took it to another level .

ASb had great options and looked great. But it's like that good-looking skirt you meet and then you go to kiss her and her breath stinks -- ruins the whole package. I could NOT get into the gameplay: batting was a chore (you say too hard -- whatever) , pitching was fine, but the fielding was just pitiful. Small fields, terrible aniamtions, lame camera view, lack of flight view (WSB had ****e camera angles too).

Even the designers said in their interview how they had everything right but the gameplay. Now, if they're admitting it, maybe it's time you were honest with it yourself.

And I'm not tryin to start no trouble -- just MHO. B/c you did ask. I'll definitely give it whirl next season.

Oh no doubt, I totally agree there were gameplay issues. I will be honest about that, I'm not an unrealistic person who just protects their game. I can pick a game to part in 5 minutes. I have never seen a game come out that was absolutely perfect. Even on ASB last year, they had that scouting book in the franchise, but it only scouted the NL teams rookies. WTF?? How do you let that go unnoticed? Then in the stats screen, The Giants and Padres would be listed in both the NL and AL and Texas and another team would not be listed at all. Of course I play with Texas. How could that be overlooked? It kills me how these video games have the simplest things go unfixed.

Now I have to disagree with you on one thing....ASB's fields did not look small....I would think everyone would agree, ASB does stadiums and fields better than anyone competition out there. They are beautiful!

And yes, I loved the pitching meter too on MVP. Great Idea. Of course, MVP got the whole pitcher thing screwed up last year, with pitchers tiring and being taken out in the 3rd and 4th innings and still getting credit for wins too. If you could just take things from this game and that game and those games....what a game you put together. I have no problem with ASB pitching interface, if they will just make it harder to throw strikes. I would have no problem, if I tried to locate the pitch 3 inches inside the strikezone, and the ball missed 4 inches outside. If they could just make it like a percentage thing....where this pitcher hits his targets 83% when fresh, 70% when fatigued, and 60% when tired, and 50% when exhausted. Something like that. And have a random hanging curve, or meatball. I think I could handle that.
Now the batting....some people hate it. They absolutely hate it. Me on the other hand...I'm always looking for a challenge. I hate playing games on a easy level. The first time I open up a new game, I put it on the toughest level the game has to offer. I play madden on all madden level, and I juice the cpu AI. ASB, I play all star.....however I hear there will be more difficulty levels this year. I love the challenge of hitting in ASB. I mean, guys it's baseball...you know, the only sport that you can fail 7 out of 10 times and be considered a great hitter. It's suppose to be tough. I think ASB nails hitting right on the money. MVP's pitching meter was great, and I kinda like their hitting interface, it's probably correct, you either pull the pitch or go with it. I'm sure that's the way it is....however, they forgot one thing, you have to get the bat on the ball. The only way to really portray that is to include a cursor. I've heard people say its all about timing, not a cursor....BS!!! When a 92 mph fastball or a curveball breaking several inches is coming at you, don't tell me it's not about getting the bat on the ball. Now again, okay, youdon't want a cursor, then MVP should have put percentages that were individual to each player on if they would make contact or not. They have those hot and cold zones, and I agree they affect you getting a base hit, but they had no effect on contact. AFter I played that game for about 2 weeks, I never struck out....too easy to get wood on the ball. Well, I think I haved portrayed both games very realistically, and I'm a fan of both games, I will play both and see which one I like the most, but ASB is always my first choice....I just hope the gameplay is cleaned up and the little bugs in franchise mode are fixed too. I'm out.

KungPao,

I'm a sports purist, command realism, & feel that ASB04 was clearly the best "overall" baseball game last season... Since when is a TOO CHALLENGING a bad thing? I can sit here now, months after playing an entire season & remembering how excited I was to hit a walk off HR against Dotel once.

But, MuffinMcFluffin (who's a WSB guy ) is right... You HAVE to check out ESPN football! The strides that game made from the previous season are mind blowing. The game restored my love for the NFL all together! (as the game has changed so much)

SEGA has made huge strides since taking on the ESPN name... Although I'll ALWAYS be an ASB guy (You're only allowed to like one game around here it seems) I'll owe it to myself to at least check out WSB as it takes on the ESPN name... Trust me, you should give SEGA another shot.

Ps... Nothing wrong w/ being a WSB guy either

diamondw23,

I don't recall saying that challenging is bad. I do believe I probably look for as much challenge as anyone could possibly look for in anything. I loved how difficult it was to hit in ASB. I hated how easy it was to pitch in ASB. I just want to clearify that. I want the most difficult settings anytime I play a video game. I can't stand people who tell me they've won the super bowl 6 straight years...or they're 33-0 in ASB. Then you find out they created an entire team of superstars, and are playing on rookie level. Wow, how challenging is that?
Lastly, ESPN Football.....hmmmm Nah, my loyalties towards Madden are too strong. But don't worry, I don't criticize any of the sega games, because I really have never played them. I just say I refuse to play them. I only criticize what I've played. But I will say this, I saw screen shots and commercials for the two(football and WSB), and they don't appeal to me. Nevertheless, I look forward to a even more challenging ASB or MVP as those are where my loyalties lie.
I'm out.

I'm out.

Real quick... "challenging is bad" was referring to the complainers (not you) out there. I'm 100% on board w/ you

Hey Kung Pao, just curious, what is your biggest gripe with All Stars gameplay?
