Re: Very depressed over no All Star Baseball and shrinking selection

Wow, this is the first time I heard of this. I actually have liked "Allstar" the last few years. It was the only game that allowed for two players to play on the same team which my broher and I loved. The feature of selecting who we each controlled on both offense and defense was great and I hope other games figure this out.

Even with all the misgivings and bugs in ASB, I would still suggest to those who are baseball game lovers to pick up a copy and throw it along side HH for your collectors addition since this is the last version. I played a game last night (first in a long time) and enjoyed a real good game. While I agree there are better games out there to play, ASB does one thing better than any of the others and that's franchise. Teams looking to trade players to improve and other teams unloading for youngsters. And of course, all the baseball transactions based on the MLB rules........In my opinion, the decision making by the CPU teams played the best of all the console games.

It does my heart good to hear all of this positive talk about ASB. It was always my favorite Baseball game. I liked the ability of the cursor controls, myself. I felt you should have a little less control over it, but it's still nice to try to hit for power and aim for it. It encourages you to think about pitches and where the next pitch might end up. I really brings you straight to the plate in terms of the actual feel of the game. There were a few glaring bugs that eventually got to me, but in the end every game had glaring bugs last year. ASB had little/no foul balls. MVP had little/no lefty home runs. ESPN...well...the graphics made it feel like you were playing with a bunch of aliens in Baseball player suits. MLB (IMO) gave players an Hourglass figure. all of ASB's small graphical problems didn't ammount to much when you considered what it allowed you to do. The Fielding Cam was absolutely amazing. Once you got the hang of the game, you were into it. I'm going to have to pick it up again myself because it looks as though it may be a long while before there's anything CLOSE to ASB's Expansion mode. Besides which, the game gave you the ability to start a franchise/expansion with completely fictional players, so come 3-5 years down the road when you're REALLY not in the mood for updating rosters and creating hundreds, maybe THOUSANDS of new players, you can just press a button and start your own fantasy MLB world with the great choices ASB gave you in 05. I have to say that seeing the overall direction Take Two has taken with their MLB games and knowing of their agreement with the MLBPA rips my heart in two....and makes me want to gather up all the last few great MLB games, because I feel like it's going to be a long time before we see anything decent again. Maybe if TakeTwo dissapoints enough, MLBPA will get pissed and things will change. Dreams, dreams, dreams.

Mark me down as a big ASB fan.

Had all the little things that make a game cool to play: collision detection on homeruns, seeing players breath when it was cold, spring training, the fantasy stadiums and teams moving into them after a few good years, accidentally losing the bat out of your hands and hitting the mascot on the dugout roof.... goofy little stuff.

But I always thought the gameplay, while "glitchy" was pretty good. I will probably keep playing that as opposed to buying something else, didn't really care for either of the other games last year. Really wish there was a way to update rosters.

                Oh well.

                    Co-sign that...

Ah F' it. I loved All-Star baseball, and since its doubtful anyone will ever do the expansion mode thing, my beloved Virginia Admirals will march into the future on ASB 05.

Theres alot of hype coming into this season...the new stadium is finally built, and with the aquisition of Sosa, the town is buzzin'

(BK, I thought you liked ASB a bit this year...)

ASB was my game too last year. I did enjoy it, but it suffered from the same graphical glitches that plagued the game in several previous editions. I'm guessing it would have had the same problems again this year. None the less, I will miss the stadiums and the generated pitch counts....I loved that feature.

I too was a huge fan of ASB......I loved so many aspects of the game.....I always felt it was the most realistic of all the Baseball Franchises, I'm really gonna miss the MLB draft they had in the game, I loved how it happened right in the time it was supposed to(right before midseason) instead of during the off season and how you could draft college players and it listed what school they came from. Made me want to play Moneyball all the more.
