Re: MLB 2K8 Wishlist
I actually liked the baserunning in this game. It was pretty fluid (compared to some other baseball games I've played) Only problem I had with it is sometimes if you didn't hit your runner buttons good enough you would end up advancing all or retreating all runners and screwing up badly.Comment

I actually liked the baserunning in this game. It was pretty fluid (compared to some other baseball games I've played) Only problem I had with it is sometimes if you didn't hit your runner buttons good enough you would end up advancing all or retreating all runners and screwing up badly.
1) Slides seem to be random. If I press up on the stick on a runner trying to score, sometimes he collides, sometime he slides through the plate and other times he slides inside. On a bang-bang play, the hooks slide around the plate can cost you a run because it takes him a split second longer to tag the bag.
2) When running to first, it seems like you have to press the R-stick to make him slide before he is even half way down the line. In real life, you're going to slide on a high throw that pulls the first baseman up the line, but it's always a last second decision in real life as you don't know what is going to happen with the throw until you see the first baseman come off the bag.
3) There needs to be a runner stop button. If there is one, I haven't figured it out, but it seems the only time the runners stop is if the computer makes them stop (usually when it is not necessary). But there are definitely situations where making the runner stop (and not retreat) would be useful.
4) Sometimes I don't know what runner I am controlling after a hit. It seems by default, sometimes I'm controlling the hitter/runner and other times, I'll be contolling the runner on second. So I think I'm sending my runner from second home, but in actuality, I'm sending my hitter/runner to second and my other guy doesn't score.
5) Since the d-pad isn't used while the ball is in play, I think they could also add in the old MVP system where you press a runner with a face button and then the d-pad in the direction of their final destination. There are situations where you may want to advance one runner 2 bases and another only 1. Maybe you have runners on 1st and 2nd and your hitter hits a ball to the gap. You may want to send the runner from second to plate, the runner from first to the plate and the batter/runner from second. This can be done with the current system, but to me it's easier to just press the base I want him to go to than to count the number of taps, sometimes not knowing if a tap registerd or not.
I wasn't a big fan of their runner display overlay to begin with, but it's grown on my and I really don't mind it anymore. I also like the fact that there seems to be good and bad baserunners in the game. Sometimes on a linedrive, a runner will freeze or go back and othertimes, they will keep going.Comment

Make free agency and such good. Arbitration hearings, players without 6 years of service should not be in the FA pool.Comment

Hook slides do take an extra split second in real life just because you are not moving in a straight line at the bag (fastest route to a given point is a straight line).

I think the runner display gives a good, accurate representation of the diamond and where the runners are. If I remember MVP well I remember the ratio of how close/far the runners were to a base we're kinda skewed which made it a bit annoying in trying to anticipate the outcome of a play.Last edited by Helios12787; 11-01-2007, 07:55 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K8 Wishlist
The collision is only gonna happen if the catcher is actually blocking the plate just like in real life (unless someone is going for a cheap shot).

Never found the lack of a runner hold button to cost me a base advance or run score just on knowing if the ball is going to drop or not but usually the CPU does it fine enough for us. I will give you there should be a button.
IIRC a tiny highlight of the runner you are controlling shows up. However, I really never have a problem just by using ABXY to control individual runners.
I have never once had a problem "counting the taps". I mean cmon it is only gonna be 1-3 taps. A good solid press will register every time.

^^^ I would LOVE to see custom emotions and such for players. Though there aren't too many emotional players on my Braves it would still be nice to see the likes of Papelbon and a few others showing emotions.Comment

I want to see the new Yankee and Met stadiums that open in 2009, and better hitting physics. balls that jam the hitter shouldnt go over the foul pole down the opposite field line.Comment

Re: MLB 2K8 Wishlist
Playing a "winter season" of 80 games after finishing The Show season. I really like the game, but see these things needing work.
1. Animations (personally, I love the graphics).
2. Still can't throw enough balls when I'm pitching.
3. Fielding camera, outfield is in need of work.
4. Full roster control. After setting lineups Rolen is leading off for the Phils, etc., etc.
Those would be enought to suit me.Comment

Re: MLB 2K8 Wishlist
No fake players.
Either give us all the players or let us create them, with a next-gen created player limit - at least 100 or better yet 255 - not this PS1-like 25 created player limit. Having to rename all the fakes is a huge drag on community roster-editors. I understand this is somewhat necessary through MLBPA, but it can be limited to MLB players on the 25 man rosters (like Millar and Bonds).
Also, if 2K is doing a full minor leagues in 2k8, then they should acquire the minor league player name licensing, hopefully eliminating the rest of the fakes.Last edited by russ99; 11-12-2007, 11:45 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 2K8 Wishlist
Lose the restrictions on everything. Offer options on how to play (manual fielding, assisted fielding, cpu fielding, etc.). Let the users decide how they want to play the game. Allow robust editing of players and teams. Don't make us jump through hoops to use oldtime teams...and allow us to edit names, etc. Give us the full game..it costs you more and takes more time to figure out what and where you should put the restrictions on. Just leave it up to us...give us FULL functionality.
