Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Looks pretty much like last year: animations still very stiff; graphics still very choppy. So none of that seems to have been improved -- although I understand gameplay was the focus this year. My last hope is they at least put zone hitting back in the game. If not, I'll probably pass on 2K baseball again this year.
I also don't think zone hitting is in the game, but maybe KushGamer can clarify. Zone hitting is a big selling point for me personally.Last edited by mjb2124; 01-25-2008, 08:37 PM.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
After watching all the video's:
Good:
- I absulutely love the HR camera. It's really nice, I can't wait to blast one into the upper deck at Yankee Stadium with that view.
- Graphics aren't as bad as the screenshots imply. In fact they are awesome.
- Great job on the Yankees uniforms including the All Star patch on one sleeve, and last year at Yankee Stadium patch on the other. Awesome.
- I love the look of the throwing meter in the field.
- New pitching looks AWESOME and lots of fun. I hope it's challenging.
- Fielding animations look smoother.
- Contact with the ball sounds better.
Bad:
- HR's are treated with less fanfare than a single. We need to see the player crossing the plate and then celebrating with teammates on the field and then into the dugout. This was in The Show three fecking years ago! Get with the times, 2K. It's a HUGE part of presentation and makes hitting HRs feel special.
- The commentary seemed exactly the same as last year. I heard the same lines I heard way too many times last year. I'm really tired of Morgan and Miller, they have grown so stale.
- On both HRs, the player looks to the opposite field of where the ball was hit. Jeter hit one over the Monstah, why on earth was he looking to RF?!
- A throw went from the RF corner to 3B going through 2 cutoff men. Maybe the player just sucked (it appears so) and didn't press the cutoff button. But still, somebody should have cutoff that ball, button press or not.
Now, most of the negatives I saw were presentation wise. Of course I haven't played the game yet, so hopefully there aren't many gameplay complaints!
But 2K really needs to step up when it comes to presentation and the "little things."Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
BTW did I say I hate IGN. They're supposed to be about 8-10 screens available but when you hit the IMAGE Tag the screens don't show-up..... WTFComment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
I think you guys are blowing this out of proportions... They are only one minute vids! Plus, it's IGN, which don't play the way us sim players do

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
I don't understand the ultra-nitpicking, but then again I'm not the huge baseball fan many of you are. I don't get the "meh, graphics look like last year" complaints - it was easily the best looking sports game to date LAST year. It looks at least as sharp this year supposedly at a faster framerate - what's the complaint ("graphics look the same" lol)? Do people really need to be reassured about the framerate? Lastly... given the extremely long sports game history with IGN, why would anyone make gameplay determinations off anything they do? C'mon OSHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I also don't understand any complaints about the graphics. The graphics look great. They always have. It's the gameplay that's been a problem IMO.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
The issue is the game looks STIFF and CHOPPY like last year. Nothing to do with the graphics; everything to do with the animations and framerate.Comment

Re: IGN MEDIA THREAD!
Graphics look better than I expected, specifically the lighting looks even a bit more improved (although I admit I didn't play more than a month worth last year so maybe it is the same). Pitching interface looks interesting and hopefully it will be intuitive and fun. One thing that I don't like, and I am probably in the minority, are the crazy jerseys. It is as if they are playing in a wind tunnel. Jerseys just don't move that much so it looks very unnatural to me and I thought after last year they would tone it down quite a bit, but it doesn't look like they did. Don't get me wrong, a 30 mph windy day at Wrigley might make them move that much, but none of these vids are at Wrigley and we don't know the speed of the wind.
I also like how you can watch the ball sail over the fence instead of watching a shadow.#WeAreUKComment
