Ball hit off the outfield fence can possibly result in a single, not good. Well, as long as a line-drive bounces in front the rightfielder does not result in a force out at first base........

Sliders buddy, sliders. As stated before alot of the talk is "out of the box".

Unless they are talking about the Green Monster, you are right, it should rarely happen.

Occasionally, you'll see a guy who thought he got enough to put it over the fence and trot on down the line only to see the ball hit the fence and him end up with a single (I believe Manny did this in the post season last year).

It kills me when this happens to guys like Juan Pierre or Johnny Damon who hall arse out of the box and have to dive into second to beat a throw on a ball that in real life they would be walking in to second.

See it gets iffy with the sliders then....cuz then u would have to lower outfielders arms in OF only.... AND raise runners speed and IF arms to still allow realistic infield plays....but who is to say that wont throw something else off?....

As much as I love the idea of sliders, if developers start to rely on sliders to alleviate basic gameplay issue after the game is released, that will mark the beginning of sports gaming decline.

More than that: it's now over-due for dry-docking and repairs.

I would like to thank Kush and DrJones for all the insight into the business. Very interesting stuff. Thanks guys.

I also like the idea of games coming out every 2 years with downloadable content in between. But I can understand why they do it. Even here on OS, I often see people threatten to not get a game if it is delayed by a week....or if preview pics aren't available in a timely fashion.

Great point baa. I used to hold off for 2 or 3 years before upgrading. But then the 2K5 series came along with games at $19.99 which changed my habits. But now that games are back up to $60, there is a bit more incentive to hold off.

Maybe 2k9 will improve whatever little things you didn't like about the hitting. But, I fear that it's more likely someone will just mess it up. I don't want to see 2k8 become another 2k4 in terms of hitting. Then 2k5 comes out and every gamer just doesn't understand what happened.

Did you at least speak to Brinkman or whoever else might be in charge of this sort of thing about the hitting system that you created and how someone should dive into it once you're gone?
I did convey my opinions on what I feel should be focused on for 2K9. As for the hitting system, it is documented pretty well and there's good commenting in the code. So, someone could probably get a decent handle on the system if they took a full day just to read the documentation and poke around in the code.

This is a decent point, BUT for each of those 3 games they had about 7-8 months of actual dev, then lockdown and bug fixing. 8*3 = 24 total months of dev with the need to put out a finished product loaded with new features, 3 times.

If you took 3 years, that's 30-32 months of dev and just one finished product.

I really just have one question...

It says that we can use the same button-layout like last year's if we don't want to use the new pitching mechanic. I DO want to use the new pitching mechanic, however, I would like to use the old batting mechanic with buttons and using the left analog to direct the swing.

Is it possible in this year's game to use last year's batting mechanic (buttons and left analog) AND THIS year's pitching mechanic simultaneously? As in, when I bat, I can use last year's buttons and left analog and when pitching, I can use the new right analog pitching mechanic? Thanks!

hey kush, just out of curiosity are you looking to get back into baseball game development, or you leaning towards something else?
