"This is where we thought we'd be"-BB

Seriously? If so I may ask to please raise your goals with a lot of the little things. Not some, a lot of the the little things.

    1. Engrossing crowd reactions
    2. A very deep crate a player screen in which drafted rookies are based off of so that when you play the game several seasons all of your rookies are unique.
    3. Do a better job with the eye paint, it is too tiny/thin, and too perfect looking. Some players have a bit of a smear.
    4. Expand the crowd a little bit. Let's say you only have 10 crowd fans in the stadiums, and they are the same ones over and over again, make it 15 or more to really change it up some more.
    5. The PA won't shut up. I'm trying to hear the game being called in the various videos, the batter is up to the plate, and the PA is still announcing the batter's name right when the first pitch hits the catch'ers mitt. WHY? Shut that PA up, or get him to say it faster. It sounds like a radio is playing in the background of the studio with the 2 PBP guys.
    6. More animations, or a bigger variety, please.
    7. Create a delivery, or create a batting stance. Not important, but definately innovative compared to a trading card system.
    8. Release tools to edit your files. Even if you have to make it look like an accidental leak. Now read number 10 below
    9. Do better marketing your game. Your butt is being kicked up and down what Bush calls the "internets". I could market this game better...for free.
    10. Read no. 8.above.

This is just constructive criticism to help you push to the next level. Not a tear down. Just a reality check.

its obvious they really focused on gameplay this yea...hopefully a lot of the things you mentioned are included for 2k9. What good is it to have an awesome crowd if the game plays like crap.

The way Brinkman talked yesterday it seems they really worked on gameplay and the more "graphics whore" type stuff will be addressed next year.

yep, I would rather them get the game play right first, then the fluff stuff later.

I think 2K is in a good spot. They made huge changes to pitching, hitting and fielding which are huge things for the series. In their last year of the 3-year plan (next season), I think they'll work more on Frnachise and graphics.

to be honest, if 2k8 were to be a house, the game play it the basement, or the foundation... and all of that up there is the walls, the windows, doors, tiles and the carpets. Without the game play, who cares how good it looks? You need a strong foundation (gameplay) or the house will fall apart (2k7).

Wait a minute. They made huge changes to all that last year when Brinkman was in charge. This year they changed all those previous changes -- a whole new pitching interface, for example. They can't keep the same game features in two years in a row. They appear to be running around in circles, trying to figure out what's going to appeal to people. Which is why they spent their time creating that laughable card system, instead of fixing the commentary, the presentation, the bat sounds, the crowd sounds, the animations, the stadiums, the players' pictures, etc.

                Yea, I think that's a good analogy.

2k7 was almost like repainting the previous/old house so that the buyers would be convinced that you should build a new one.

Everyone liked how beautiful the old run-down house looked but it had it's problems because the foundation was crap.

So, now with the fans believing in their ability to perform, they are laying a better foundation for a new house. In year two of that new house (or year three of the entire project) they'll build those walls, doors, tiles, etc. to make that house complete.

Hopefully, if the foundation was built right from the beginning, then the new house will only need subtle remodeling or repainting every year on. Perhaps a few expansions/additions will be built to highlight new features. All the fluff.

They did? I recall Brinkman saying throughout 2k7's "promotion" that they upped the graphics. It was hardcore graphics and player sigs. "I want you to feel like the player you are controlling."

What changes did they make to hitting, pitching, and fielding? They only tried tuning what was already there but gameplay was definitely not the focus of 2k7. I don't think it ever was during their marketing blitz of what was probably two days before the release of the game.

Wasn't last year's pitching system all new? Am I mistaken?

I should probably reword what I said. Yes, the pitching system was different. It had a new look to it to make pitching difficult, I guess. But, it was based off the older systems. At least, that was my impression. There really wasn't much in the difference between the older meters and the new one except that they were executed differently.

For 2k8, Ben and company instead are saying that they redid the entire sim engine of how pitching and hitting works. To me, that's redoing pitching and hitting. Adding a new way of pitching isn't.

So, this RAS gimmick is just that. A new way of pitching. Fixing it is going under the hood and fixing the code.

I guess I just feel like the talk was different last year compared to this year when they speak about gameplay.

                        I should be clear.
It isn't an either or thing. I'm saying gameplay AND more should have been worked on. You're all just happy to get a better gameplay, I want the whole enchalada. Con queso y chips on the side too, man. Right now, it looks like you can choose the "house" for sale that has a great look, but, for the same price you can get that same house with better fixtures, nicer faucets, a screened in deck, crown molding, better carpet, nice tile, and even there is a finished basement with crown molding and trey ceilings.

                        Hows that for an anolgoy?

I say TEAR DOWN THE FU.CKIN HOUSE AND BUILD A NEW ONE!!!

The foundation is weak. With a newer engine this could be the greatest baseball game ever.

You can only spray so much perfume on a pile of crap.

This still looks like the same engine they used in 2K5.

Not if you live in a certain neighborhood that doesn't allow the "better" house to be bought.
