    Quick Question regarding hitting?

I noticed that the pitching feature in the new iteration of MLB 2K seems to be getting a lot of attention mainly because of the new right-stick functions. This is all fine and dandy, I'm actually looking forward to playing the game because of the new pitching system. However, I noticed that, while the hitting is getting some attention, it's not nearly getting as much attention as I would like to know and considering hitting is like 50% of the game, I do have a few questions that I'm hoping someone could help me out with.

    1. Is the new hitting engine all timing based? It it simply pull back straight and push forward straight? Can we pull back in a direction or push in a direction to aim the hit?

    2. Can we still use the old hitting engine with buttons and right stick to aim?

    3. If we can still use the old hitting engine, can we use the new pitching controls with the old hitting engine or are they not interchangeable and it's either old or new?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answers to these inquiries.

I don't think it's getting the attention becuase it's not completely new as an idea...they had the swing stick last year.

    1. I believe you can push to the right and left to influence hit.

    2. Pretty sure you can use the old system and use the direction to influence hit as well.

    3. Should be able to seperately choose your hitting and pitching systems as you could last year.

sorry to tell you this but its timing only. The rt analog stick doesnt aim. It was my biggest problem with the game. Its not more than hitting a button for timing only...but its very little more.

        You can aim:

Batters still have the choice of aiming their shots. During the forward motion of the right analog stick during a swing, the batter can push the stick slightly to the right to direct the ball in that direction and vice versa. Although somewhat effective to attack gaps in the defense, other factors such as pitch location and timing of the swing will also have an impact on the direction of the ball once it leaves the bat.

I read that you will have to aim with the left analog stick....

The 2K team also had a chance to revisit batting mechanics for MLB 2K8. This probably shouldn’t come as any surprise to anyone who played last year’s game as it was routine to see players hitting 6+ home runs per game online. Most of this was due to the separation of contact and power hitting (basically everyone just hit for power).
Like last year, batting controls still involve pulling back on the right analog stick before pushing forward to swing. In MLB 2K8, however, this motion is consistent for both contact and power hitting and the choice has been taken out of the gamer’s control. Instead, the player’s intrinsic batting style is used to dictate the type of balls he hits. For example, Ichiro won’t be belting 450ft homers left and right regardless of how perfect the timing of his swing. David Ortiz, on the other hand, may have a tendency to pop a lot of balls up in the air. The end result is a more realistic game where strategy and small-ball play much bigger factors.

As in last year’s game, the batter has a ‘batter’s eye’ circle about the diameter of three baseballs. The batter must direct this circle with the left analog stick during his swing in order to make proper contact with the ball. Aiming too low will result in pop flys and too high will result in ground balls; all pretty much what you would expect.

                Correct.

And it's the L stick, not the R stick to influence hit-type: up for fly ball, down for ground ball, etc. And maverick is sort of correct as well. Swing stick actually has less hit-influence options this year than last. But you can move the R stick slightly left or right as you push up on it, in order to influence the hit.

Twins: that info is incorrect. Kush verified that the people who wrote article, got it wrong. The L stick has nothing to do with hit-influence this year.

Wow that's really horrible that they got that wrong. How could they honestly do something like that??

Yeah, I read that somewhere else I think. It's kinda the same as last year but looks different.

I think the right-analog part is correct isn't it?

I think I read that they must have misunderstood what the "batters eye" thing does. Someone mentioned that you just move it to guess the pitch like last season, and they thought it did something else.

                            Not sure...

The R stick part is correct, yup.

And sorry: I may have got my stick info from last year mixed up... which is maybe why you were confused.
