Re: Does anyone have official word on the demo?

sure, i'm just as frustrated as the next guy that we wont be getting the 2k8 demo before it's released (ps3 owner here)...but i'm just glad we're not living in the same days where i've got to spend 10 or 15 bucks to rent both of them first and then shell out the money for the game?

anyone agree with me on that one? it makes sense to release a demo BEFORE the game...but even getting it after the fact is nicer than not having it at all. just looking for the silver lining here.

although, if the show comes out tomorrow...or at least before the 2k8 demo does...i might say i'm going to go ahead and get it. there was a glimmer of hope that the new stuff in 2k8 could have won me over...but i need the demo first.

No one is forcing people to make a purchase decision on the day the games hit retail. Your post was like one of those "Zomg teh sky is teh falling!!!" things that insinuated that ps3 users would be up S&%$ creek if they couldn't play the demo before the game hits retail, when it just isn't the case at all.

Play it when it comes out, and decide if it is worth your 60 dollars. You can be as demanding as you want, but it isn't going to make the demo come out any sooner. You "shelling out 60 bucks" is your choice, and if you can't be patient enough to wait until Microsoft/Sony decide to put the demo up, it is your own fault if you end up being truly disappointed. That may be just a wee bit too logical for you and others to fully grasp, but it is the truth.

My point had everything to do with most people around here acting like 7 year olds that got their first boner over a demo release date and nothing at all to do with defending 2K. For anyone over the age of 20, having demos period is a huge luxury. I fear there would have been mass suicides back in the 8 and 16 bit eras if people had been as overzealous as a lot of you are being.

that's easy to say when you are able to play the demo for your game of choice two weeks before it releases. some here (not necessarily me) only have one system and are anxious to see if the new implementations are good. besides that brinkman said the demo would be out the first part of feb. that statement coupled with the fact that last years release was for a good number of people horrible, (complicated by the day before release demo) has those who only have a 360 a bit keyed up. so be a little empathetic while dwelling in your ivory tower. you're like marie antoinette who told the hungry peasants begging for bread to eat, to instead go eat cake.

btw, your tirade about the impatience of others might reserve you a seat on that bus reserved for petulant little children.

Couldn't have said it better. ps3 owners can't possibly feel what 360 owners are going through with this demo situation

              INFRACTION!

              Haha.

Seriously though, Brettryantalley has a good point, about how spoiled we've become by demos. Back in the day, we hardly ever had demos for games (unless they were pack in with a magazine subscription), so, even though it would obviously be ideal for this to be out before the games release, we should still be glad that we get a demo at all.

I think part of the problem is so many people HAVE to have the game on day one... Honestly, if someone can't wait a few extra days for impressions, or the demo, and buys a game they end up hating... they really have no one to blame but themselves.

Again, it would still be nice if 2K or Microsoft or whoever would have had this out sooner, but they don't, so we have to deal with the situation as it is.

SIDE NOTE: Remember when some games (especially for Nintendo), would send out VHS tape previews??? I remember watching the two I got for Donkey Kong Country and Mario 64 over and over and over...

Isn't there a small chance we might get it tomorrow? I thought XBL updates every day of the week other than weekends, right? And for PS3 users your out of luck till next week. (Although I think we will all be out of luck)

Microsoft rarely puts demos out on friday but it does happen.

Microsoft has updated the Marketplace many times on early Friday Mornings. Here's hoping if they do update the Marketplace tomorrow morning, they upload that 2k8 DEMO

Hopefully not off topic but on the subject of being spoiled by demos: Yes, we have been. We've also had the privilege of returning games we don't like taken away from us. Back in the day you could buy a game and try it for a few days and return it if you didn't like it..at least at the stores that have now all become Gamestops. Now that they sell used games the best you can hope for is 20-25 bucks trade value on your recent 60 dollar purchase. So I don't think it's too much to ask for a demo before a release comes out. You can read all the previews and reviews in the world but until YOU play the game you won't know if you'll really like it. And 60 bucks is a lot of money to spend on something that potentially might end up collecting dust on your shelf. I'm sure there will be a demo released. I'm just not sure if it will come out before the game is put out. If not, and you can't be patient and wait to get the game after it is released I guess you gotta assume that risk.

I agree. Specially after the fact that it was supposed to have been out for weeks by now.

Personally while I wish new games still cost 40 or 50 dollars (remember when 2k dropped those crappy versions on us for 30 bucks so we'd buy them? It wasn't that long ago!) I have come to accept it. That's exclusivity at work for ya.

Super Famicom titles were 70 bucks at TRU the year it came out. I was the only kid on my entire street that had Mike Tyson's Punch Out when it came out because it cost so much money. No, we weren't rich - I just begged and pleaded, and my Dad (bless him) understood the value of video games for me. I'm the same way with my kids today.

I guess my point is that 60 bucks isn't that much for a video game, considering. I am, however, past the point where I'd shell out $450 bucks to play The Show or any single title.
