Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
I had really good results w/ this slider set. Only saw 2 HR's all game, one by me one by the Mets.
I (Phillies) beat the Mets 6-1. I had one HR in the 1st inning w/ Jimmy Rollins facing Oliver Perez (LH Pitcher). Rollins' power comes from the left side of the plate (bats switch), and the pitch which was thrown was right in my wheel house. I turned on it and sent it screaming over the LF wall.
The only Mets' HR was David Wright off of Cole Hamels, and the HR was a bad pitch up in the zone which Wright crushed to right-center.
The game was real close w/ me taking a 1 run lead off the J-Roll homer in the first, and the Mets tying it up in the 2nd off the Wright homer. After that both pitchers threw 3 scoreless innings, and I took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th after leading the inning w/ a double by Utley down the 3B line, and Howard singling him in from 2nd. In the T8th I opened up my lead scoring 4 runs...The Mets helped me out by making two errors which could've been easy outs, and I got an infield hit w/ Rollins to start the inning (first one I've seen thus far).
I pitched a gem w/ Hamels allowing only 1 run on 6 hits through 9 innings and striking out 13! The Mets threatened quite a few times, but a timely K and/or double play put an end to two innings which could've seen the Mets open it up on me.
I'm loving these sliders for hitting as I was able to get 6 runs on 7 hits, and only one was a homer. Although two of those 6 runs were unearned due to the two errors I spoke of earlier allowing the runner to score, and/or get on base.
I had to increase my step influence too...I don't know why I had it at 5. I couldn't get any hits w/ it that low...everything was little rinky dink dribblers or foul ball pop-ups. I set it to 45, and was able to make some solid contact on good swings. I still struck out 7 or 8 times w/ it @ 45, but I also got 3 walks.
That win against the Mets was only my 2nd win in 6 games overall. Hopefully now that I got better hitting sliders I'll be a little more comeptitive against the CPU. I only wish I could have Cole Hamels pitch every game.
A couple of questions:
Are you getting any strikeouts with Contact that high?
How are your pitch counts? Are teams throwing over 100 pitches per game?
Are you seeing a lot of soft ground/fly balls?
Are you seeing any extra base hits?
Are you using IE influence for CPU/Human?Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
The fact that there are still homers with Skill and Power that low pretty much proves the point. You would think there wouldn't be any with settings that low.

So you have to chase the ball to the wall almost 90% of the time with power at 5. I strikeout and I do strikeout the AI. That part of the game is dictated by the take ball and strike slider more, plus the pitcher difficulty to hit slider.
I have IE on but the IE slider is set to 0.Comment

The homers barely clear the fence at 5 power.

2. Oliver Perez got pulled after the 7th inning, and he was over 80 pitches...I think his PC was 84. Cole Hamels (Me) went 9 innings and threw 107 pitches.
3. I'm seeing soft grounders/dribblers and flyballs...in fact i had two singles w/ J-Roll and Shane Victorino which were little bloopers in shallow Left and Right Center.
4. I hit a double down the 3B line w/ Utley, and a double to the LF gap w/ Howard.
5. I have IE at 50 (default) for both.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
The one I hit w/ J-Roll I turned on, and hit to LF almost coming in contact w/ that section of seating that extends past the foul pole above the bullpen.
The CPU HR w/ Wright to right-center was a shot, and was out as soon as he hit it.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
Nah. This combined with my AI take pitches has given me great pitcher/batter battles and accurate pitch counts. I'm very happy with this. I'm probably trying to throw balls out of the zone 75% of the time.
Like I said though, I generally throw to the area where the glove is.
So when your catcher wants you to hang a curveball, you do?Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
I have my ai "throw to corner" slider at 100 and my "change speed" slider at a couple above 0 (maybe 5)
That seems realistic.. There are a lot more fastballs thrown in real life then there are thrown in this game.
Also, not only does the corner slider help with the ai throwing more balls, it is also realistic. The pros are always throwing or at least aiming at the corners.
I have to try this...I'm so sick of the A.I throwing curveballs up & in all freakin' game.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
The two homers I saw w/ power @ 5 did not "barely" clear the wall.
The one I hit w/ J-Roll I turned on, and hit to LF almost coming in contact w/ that section of seating that extends past the foul pole above the bullpen.
The CPU HR w/ Wright to right-center was a shot, and was out as soon as he hit it.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
I am not seeing too many HRS at all.
I am currently 7 games into my season with the Reds and I have hit a total of 10 HRs.
I am using BIGJOES sliders and I think the power setting is perfect. So far I have given up 11 HRs in those 7 games. I have hit 4 of my 10 HRs with Alex Gonzalez of all people, my next guy is Griffey with 2. By the way I have yet to hit 1 with Dunn!ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
We must have different sliders other than the ones I posted. The homers I see are not automatic cut scenes. Now you and the AI at least get to chase the ball to the wall, even though it clearly looks like a homerun. Gonna post my full slider set but I can't get the AI to steal realistically.
I still K'd 9 times against Shilling with the Brewers. He had a no no till the top of the 7th. Papi killed me with a three run jack that barely cleared the wall in left. I hung a change up with the ball bouncing around all over. Pedrosia hit the other homer.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
Depending on who the hitter is I may throw it for a strike on a corner or aim for the pitch to be out of the zone. If it's a hitter in the lower part of the lineup I may just hang it. It also depends on the count and the game situation.Comment

Re: Bottom Line: Still too many HRs
So let me make sure I'm understanding this. You purposely hang curveballs, and you think there are too many HRs?Comment
