Bottom Line: Still too many HRs

After playing somewhere near 50-60 games with many different slider adjustments, the HRs are just killing this game for me.

Regardless of settings, the CPU and myself can continue to hit multiple HR's per game. Every once in a while I have a game with 2 or 3 total HRs, but most games have at least 5.

Recently, I'd made some adjustments to the hitting sliders in an effort to generate hits other than singles and HR's, by myself as well as the CPU. I was able to find some settings that worked, played 4 games and had some decent results.

Everything came full circle in my last two games:

    Brewers -5 Cub(me)-1

After 4 innings every run was produced via solo HR and only one was off of a meatball pitch.

    Mariners-8 Reds (me)-4

    7 total HRs.

There are many more examples like this at many different slider settings. It seems as if you lower the sliders there will be no offense except for the random HR here and there and if you bump up the sliders to favor a more offensive game it's way over the top. There really is no middle of the road with the HRs.

If you leave the settings on default, you see a bunch of HRs. If you adjust them, you will see a HR every few games. I've played 4 games today and had 3 HRs, 2 by myself and 1 by the cpu. If you start the slider set on Legend and lower the AI batter skill to 50, Contact to 40 and Power to 45 you will see ALOT less HRs. If your not comfortable using the Total Control Pitching move that slider to make it easier (which I had to do) and you will be fine. Hope that helps.

I am actually playing on pretty much default All-Star and just not seeing the HR's...heck, I can barely hit them at all. One game the CPU might hit 2 and I might hit 1...the next game no one hits any. Last game I played I got destroyed by San Fran 11-1...not one HR hit the entire game.

Yup. The problem is - just like the steal sliders and the throw strike sliders - the power sliders are essentially broken in 2K8. They work, but just barely. I ended up lowering them to 0, and balls were still flying out of the park. In previous years, lowering those sliders created more groundballs. This year, all they do is create shorter fly balls, which of course end up as shorter HR's for the power hitters. I figure they must have screwed up the slider programming when they tinkered with the new hitting mechanics.

Honestly, this is just a variation of the "You Suck" reply.

I get what he's saying, and it's that there doesn't seem to be a balance between hits/HR's. Homers are part of the game of course, but it seems if you scale them back, then the hitting (ala singles and doubles) suffers as well. Maybe finding the right balance of sliders will fix this, but why isn't the game "Balanced" right from the box then?

I know you've used BFNJ's sliders and so have I. They've really helped me as I see between 1-3 HR's every game. Sometimes I don't see any. I think you are probably just better than me at this game though. But BFNJ's sliders really work for me

I was growing frustrated with the same issue and the bottom line is you have to lower CPU's power below 40. Also, anything with skill above 75 seems to result in too many homers. I'd recommend keeping the CPU power at 25-30 and keeping skill in the 45-60 range somewhere. I have contact at 30, but that slider doesn't seem to do a lot. This setting seems to allow for a variety of CPU hits and not very ball is hit like a lazer beam. Also, make sure your pitch speed is not too low or high. Too low will cause too much offense on both sides. Too high will cause not enough.

I have human settings at contact/power/skill as 25/50/50. This makes offense a challenge and I get a variety of hits. One will be a seeing eye single up the middle, next will be a screamer over the center fielders head.

Thanks man. I'll give it a shot.

I dont know but the HR's seem fine to me this year. I can barely even hit one myself. I know Im still getting used to this years game, but in like 20 games Ive only hit like 6 HR's with Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez combined. Maybe 9 overall withthe entire team.

I play with both human and CPU hitting sliders at 35 skill, 45 cont, and 50 power. I have CPU pitching set to 0 corner, 50 change speed, 30 thr strike, 25 thr strike ahead, 30 thr strike behind.

Im getting better and starting to hit with a little more power so I may lower power in the future , but right now this set up is working just fine for me. All kinds of hits including lots of doubles.

I think he's still hungover from last night or, he started St. Patty's Day early. Hell, he may not even be old enough to have a drink.

I have the A.I power set to how BigFNJoe's sliders have it(don't know which number that is) and total controll pitching at 80. I see 0-2 A.I HR's a game. When the A.I does hit them, it's usually off a poorly executed pitch...But yesterday when playing the Indians, Jhonny Peralta hit a slider that was low and away for a opposite field 3 run HR...I don't even think Vladimir Guerrero could of hit that one out.

I'm having the same exact same problem you're having. I either hit to many home runs, or no offense at all. I've been adjusting sliders for endless games it seems like and I just can't get that perfect mix. I got the computer offense down perfectly, but then I just keep on hitting them out. I think I'm just going to make some roster adjustments for my team only. I'm usually against all this but MLB is a great game besides all these home runs.
