    This game without framerate issues

I havent played the show. But I'm wondering if this game was bashed because of all the framerate issues and freezes which I'm not experiencing. I'm just signing out of my profile until the patch and it plays great. The gameplay to me seems really good. I am considering if this is the time to make the change and get a ps3 though. I do like this game and the controls and I'm wondering if its really worth it, considering i havent experienced the problems with this game other people are. Then again I could play the show and never go back, but I do enjoy this game.

For those people enjoying this game without the framerate issues how would you rate it compared to the show? Is the show really something that needs to be experienced or is this game pretty comparable?

Re: This game without framerate issues

As I've posted several times already, I think the hype surrounding The Show is way overblown. Fans of the game are just loud, that's all. To me, it's been the same game for three years now. That is, to answer your question, no, The Show is not something that "needs" to be experienced. But that's just my opinion. There's plenty of guys around here who I know disagree.

Re: This game without framerate issues

I'm thinking of getting a ps3 because i love baseball games and it might just be time to get one. But I'm trying to determine if people just bashed this game and heralded the show because they didn't take the time to figure out the new controls and they dont realize there is an easy fix for the framerate issues. Most of the reviews I've heard and read they bash the controls and the framerates. It's hard to tell sometimes which game is really better.

Unfortunately I'm an older gamer and I don't know anyone who has a ps3 to see it for myself. Most of my gamer friends are pc gamers and a few have a 360.

Of course you say this....just as I will say the opposite.
You're dead wrong ....IMO......especially about the same game for three year now. Just the graphic jump alone is staggering. Forget about the extra commentary.

Well, put it this way: I said what I said above as someone who plays this game on the PS3, without any framerate "workaround."

The graphics are good, but the player models look like dwarfs, and there's no dynamic lighting (gotta love those 7 o'clock starts in July in utter blackness).

And it's not that I think it's impossible to like The Show, and I suspect the scores it has gotten (8.9, etc.) are probably justified, I'm just not impressed with it. As someone who played a ton of MLB 06 on the PS2, the game just doesn't feel any different; it's not, to me, a "must see" experience. It's, like you practically just said, MLB 06 with better graphics.

But like I said in my first post, I know you guys are out there. I don't think you're idiots for thinking the game is great, far from it. It's just my opinion, tying things back to the OP, that if you're already enjoying 2K8, buying a PS3 and The Show would be a waste of money.

Then again, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the OPer will LOVE The Show. I'm just here to say it's possible that he won't.

Re: This game without framerate issues

For me the Show has set the standard for baseball games. Same as last year? I don't think so. For me they took an already outstanding game and refined it. I don't think the game needed a major overhaul, as it was an excellent game last year. It's just now, imo, they've refined it with some subtle tweaks. Imo, it is a must play experience.

That being said, I find 2k8 to be a more than solid game. Graphically the game took a step back, but the gameplay imo, is much improved over last year. Now if you take away the framerate issues, then imo, while it wouldn't be as good as the Show, it would at least be in the ballpark so to speak.

one thing i can say, the show might be the same game 3 years in a row...that i dont know, sold my ps2 back around 2003... but it definitely looks good. one of the better games as far as graphics go on the ps3. thats my opinion on it.. the game plays alright.. it plays smooth, but repetitive button presses. i have a feeling 2k will be a good game when they fix the framerate. thats the biggest deterring factor for myself. it just hurts my eyes to watch it jerk and stutter all the time. its like when you play rock band or gh3 too long and you see the colored circles moving down your wall..

Re: This game without framerate issues

Having to EVEN decide which game to get should not be the point. Both dev's should have done a great job in the first place making their 2nd foray into next gen engines.

Unfortunately i believe that 2ksports doesn't have a grasp of what it takes to optimize their current game engine and thats the reason for all it's problems this year. they go and CHANGE every aspect of gameplay and the thing grinds to hault as far as being repsonsive to all the "innovation" it has EVEN after completely dumbing down whatever was almost absolutely beautiful visually last year.

So... "this" game without framerates issues is great, but with em' it's almost an entire breakdown of a developers vision. brinkman has nowhere to go next year but up because after this year low it's almost impossible to get any more worse.

Next year the graphics should be phenomenal and running at a completely smooth 60 at all times on ps3. IF not why bother? I mean why bother?

I played some 2k7 for the ps3 the other day and that game is 100 times smoother than 2k8. Wjhy? 2k7 wasn't THAT bad actually it need a few important tweaks. Instead they go and ruin the BASIC game and try to innovate within a time period of a YEAR?Come ON!

I hate this answer...it has NOTHING to do with being a diehard baseball fan or not. Some people may just not enjoy the game, period. That's why it's great to have a choices out there. I haven't gotten around to playing the Show on the PS3, but I rented the PS2 version 3 times trying to get into it and just couldn't get into it...it plays a solid game of baseball, but I just didn't enjoy it. It has nothing to do with me "not being a diehard baseball fan..." as I would consider myself to have a baseball sickness.

Re: This game without framerate issues

I have played some 2k8 and I have played a lot of the show. A franchise in the show and the road to the show mode will have you addicted to this game until 09 comes out. The graphics and shadows in the show will amaze you. You will also be surprised at how after playing road to the show for 5 straight hours you have to force yourself to stop playing because its so addictive.

This is the first year i have played the show so i dont know about previous versions or if its the same game. i did play a little 2k7 but ended up going back to my updated MVP '05. If you haven't played the show before i suggest you give it a try. you could always trade it in but im pretty sure you'll be hooked. Franchise is great, rtts is the best mode of any sports game ever IMO. Gameplay is awesome. If you have the money no harm in trying it out.

I disagree that 2k8 is unplayable, but the framerate issues are annoying and the game itself isnt good enough to make me block out that issue. Gameplay would be pretty close to the show without the framerate issues. But i have to reitorate, rtts puts that game in a different stratosphere IMO.

Notice i said IMO, which means its my opinion, which means if you don't like it its your problem not mine. have fun.

See that's where I disagree. In my experience, the framerate probs are not limited to just overlay slow downs, but to actual onfield gameplay. The framerate hits do indeed affect gameplay. At least they do for me. Maybe I am the only one.
