Does anyone think 2k9 is going to be better than the show this year?
I honestly have never played the show 09 because i own a 360. I know everything there is to know about the game however and the game does seem impressive. However from the previews we have read about 2k9, would it be considered a miracle if it beats out the show?Tags: None -

The Show 09' has all the features one could want for a baseball game (40-man rosters, arbitration, RTTS, etc.) and so far we don't know a whole lot about 2k9. Will it have the 40-man rosters, etc.? I haven't heard anything... But IMO graphics and gameplay are more important than that, so we'll see what 2k9 gives us. -

because it really does depend on what you're looking for in a game. IMO, flat-out, 2K's hitting system -- swing stick plus step-influence -- is the best addition to video baseball in years. It's nothing short of brilliant. And as much as I love the realistic hit results in The Show, 2K's system will change the way video baseball is played in years to come (once all the Hardball/High Heat vets all get so old they can't push buttons let alone hold a controller any longer).
So from that one perspective, 2K9 will kill The Show. It already did last year, and this year is bound to be that much better given zone hitting is in the game. And the same could be said as far as the R stick pitching controls go. I personally don't like them all that much, but there are others who love the pitching as much as I love the hitting in 2K baseball.
As for the rest... with the exception of player models, I would guess The Show is going to outshine 2K9 in every other catagory. Thing is, it's got a huge lead on 2k baseball right now as far as consistently putting out a quality product, so that's to be expected.Comment

not gonna bash just gonna say no, not even close. 2k9 if running smoothly at 60 frames will most likely be a very decent game but the show is already unbelieveable, If VC was doing the MLB series since 2k7 then maybe it would have a shot...Comment

At this point I can't image anybody would seriously think 2K9 would be better than The Show.
The best we can hope for is that 2K9 is GOOD ENOUGH to not make us buy a PS3 just so we can play an enjoyable baseball game. I still have hope that can happen.Comment

I dont think 2k9 will be better then The Show09. I do think 2k9 will be better then 2k8. I would like both games to be good at one point, its better for us if there is competition amongst SCEA & 2k/VC (that includes basketball too, but SCEA has a ways to go on that)Comment

I'm trying not to laugh here because I know you're just making a point. But man, those are some low standards! It's like predicting better weather come May than we've had this winter.

Im going to have to say that MLB 2k9 probably wont be better than MLB 09 but it has potential to be just as good. I have a feeling that MLB 2k9 will be a step in the right direction.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Does anyone think 2k9 is going to be better than the show this year?
I have The Show 06-08 and like the presentation, but I don't like the controls when compared to 2K's controls. For example, I love fielding with the right analog stick. Using just a button press to throw to a base is the same way I used to throw back in the old school Nintendo days, so I think it's time The Show moved forward a bit because with a simple button press you have no control over the power or the height of the throw. I also really like the Swing Stick and the right analog pitching is pretty nice too, and should be much better in 2K9.
Also, Matt Vasgersian is a great announcer, but Rex Hudler gets real annoying real fast.
Overall, I think they're both going to be good games, but I think I'm going to lean towards 2K9 if it runs smoothly, because I think it will have the better controls and possibly better presentation this year, but we'll have to wait and see before I can really say for sure.Last edited by jeffy777; 01-29-2009, 02:47 PM.Comment

Because the Show has been an extraordinary baseball game for me, and if 2k9 can top it, I will be having the best gaming year of my life. Nothing wrong with 2 fantastic games.Comment

I'm not going to say this is a completely silly questionbecause it really does depend on what you're looking for in a game. Re: Does anyone think 2k9 is going to be better than the show this year?
The short answer is NO, especially not this year. There is just too far for them to go in such a short time and The Show has a huge head start.
However, this is a year that, if they get everything they are trying to accomplish right, they can close that gap and shoot for all of the extras next year and add a new Franchise mode with all fo the correct roster happenings and add a mode like RTTS.
For most, it all comes down to gameplay. Real rosters, extra modes, create a face are all nice, but if the baseball sucks, who cares.
I'm just guessing here, but it seems like The Show has a hitting/pitching/fielding sytem that works, but there seems to be a push for analog use in sports games these days, so if 2K creeps up on overall, on the field, baseball quality, I think you'll see a change on their side. The old "if aint broke, don't fix it" statement doesn't really hold true to sports games because year in and year out the developers have to do something to differentiate and freshen their product from the prior one as well as against the competition. And if the other game produces the same quality baseball game with "funner" controls, then all of a sudden you're game will seem old to many. If this happens, it may take The Show a year or two to tighten everything up and perfect something that is similar, but different than what 2K offers.Comment
