    should i give 2k9 a look?

i own a 360 and i own the ps3 only because of the show 08. Im not here to debate which game is better. After playng the demo of the show and knowing from what i have read that its really gonna be the same game as last year with a few tweaks.

i played 2k8 for a minute last year and the pitching controls were a outstanding idea. the thought of pushing buttons for hitting and pitching in the show this year just doesnt thrill me. but the idea of using the stick system in 2k9 is very exciting to me.

i will be honest, i loved 2k7, i hated 2k8 (which is why i bought the ps3). Do you guys think from what you have read and seen of 2k9 that i would be an idiot for choosing 2k9 over the show? is 2k9 gonna look and play better then 2k8? what about the choppy graphics from 2k8? those controls are really intriguing to me

    thanks!

    Re: should i give 2k9 a look?

First off I don't understand why these questions even pop up on the board. But to answer your question yes you should give it look. You should give it a look because when a demo is released you can download it and try it yourself.

See the great thing about ps3 and xbox360 is the release demo's so you can get a sample of the game before you go out and spend $60 on it. So my advice would be play The Show demo you downloaded yesterday and wait for the 2k9 demo to be released. Play the 2k9 demo for a little bit and go from there.

Sorry if I came off the wrong way but honestly no one knows how good or bad 2k9 is going to be.

You're asking questions that no one knows yet. Last year they promised us that we would have the greatest baseball game in the world but look how that turned out. So you really can't 100% believe everything you read. Areo is right, you have to wait for a demo to at least get a feeling for the game. As for my opinion, I feel the same way you do. The Show is still the same game it has been for years when it comes to gameplay, which is not a bad thing, but i'm really, really hoping that 2K9 pulls of a good game this year cause I really like how they came up with a new pitching & batting system.

We'll maynard, 2k has released 2 teasers. Both teasers are from In-Game Footage. Take a look if you haven't. From everything we've seen, (Early Builds) there were some choppiness in certain Camera Shots. VC has been very vocal that the game will lock @ 60 FPS when it hits stores.

VC has tweaked a lot of the Mechanics of the game.. Pitching, Hitting & Base running. Fielding hasn't changed much. Game spot has a preview build & the person playing says the players feel weighted & momentum feels real. Meaning stopping on a dime might be gone.

The Pitching Mechanic has been tweaked to a 2 step process, with the option to revert back to the 3 step process that was in 2k8. So far previews seem to like the 2 step process. I just wonder if you can get some really realistic pitch counts this year. They've also mentioned something about umpires having various Strike Zones which might be a good thing. They've also cleaned up the screen a little..

The Hitting Mechanic also has been tweaked. They have 3 Hitting Options this year. Same a last year. The difference is they've added Zone Hitting. This option offers a Bat Cursor on-screen which you move with the L Analog Stick in a Hitting Zone & use the R Analog for Hitting.

The regular Swing Stick is still timing based, but you now don't have to time your back swing & you also can influence your hits with the L Analog Stick.

New Commentary, the Graphics look pretty good & as always Signature Styles with the addition of 300 more. They've also added a NEW HD/Camera Style Presentation with Real-Time Atmosphere for a more immersive TV Style experience.

It really seem like VC the New Developer of the series has done some serious changing to the game, but the reality is how will those changes translate to actual Game Play. That's the big question.

I would say give it rent if that's an option for you. If not wait for some real impressions from OS once the game hits the stores

I would say yes why not. I mean we havent even seen any gameplay for the game yet. I will get the Show for sure but ill definitely give 2k9 a look.

I'm choosing between 2k9 on the 360 and The Show on PS2. If the gameplay on 2k9 can come close to The Show (I rented the Show 08 and thought it was great), then I'll go with 2k9 for the next gen graphics and online roster updates (no internet hookup on my PS2).
If I had a PS3, I would buy The Show no matter what.

That's all you needed to type.

                  - Buy The Show on release day. We're talking game of the decade here.
                  - Play it until you need a change of pace.
                  - Come back here, check the impressions thread, then rent 2K9 if you're still interested.

This is the only sane and logical choice. There is no other decision for someone who owns a PS3. There just isn't.

You and i think alike. There really isnt a decision to be made if you own a PS3. I , personally, don't see what the debate is about.

The debate would have to do with stick versus button controls. I prefer the stick, but if you're a baseball fan, you don't pass on the sports game of the decade and the best baseball game of all time, just because of that. You just don't.

                        Re: should i give 2k9 a look?

Though I have to echo the thought that these questions serve little purpose, I think it needs to be said that you should always TRY every game out there that you may be interested in.

From my view, I think that the Show has a MUCH better chance at being the better game just from the fact that it had a much better game last year. The 2K game has a longer road to travel. With that said, remember a couple of things:

                        1. Kush is out of the picture. VC has the game now. VC - given college hoops, NBA, and NFL has some really good devs in that house. Give them a game and they'll create something you'll like at some point.

                        2. Sounds and looks like the old MLB "engine" was chucked. You don't do that if you're satisfied with the game. It's pretty clear VC was not satisfied with the MLB or NHL engines and changes are coming.

So, considering all of this, you have to at least give the game a look because you never know how much has changed for the better in your opinion.

In MY opinion, I'm getting the Show. For sure. I'm also getting 2K9 because I trust the developer, it's on other platforms that I prefer ( 360 AND PC - I don't like the PS3), and I want to see where VC is going to take the game. I would bet that 2K9 is much better than 2K8. We already see a big visual upgrade. Will it be better than the Show? Maybe not. But I'm sure that given enough time, VC will make a really good baseball game. Frankly, the ONLY good sports game to come out of Sony has been their baseball game. So my faith in them isn't as strong. But if both games are worth a look, get them both.

"the sports game of the decade"???

                          LOL!!!

                          ROTFLMAO!!!!

Are you too young for World Series? That game, even in it's technical inferiority (naturally) to the current gen games, still runs circles around any baseball game out there. Period. The Show is damn good. But even this year, I doubt you can get better than Fifa... AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE SOCCER! NBA 2K9 gets more play as well. This is not to debate opinions, but come on guys. Let's not over-hype the Show.

Agreed. And I've already arranged to rent 2K9 when it comes out. And while I'm hoping it'll be worth purchasing, I'm not expecting a lot. The Show though is one of those rare games where you can be guaranteed you'll have your socks knocked off -- a game like Halo or any future 2K football game comes to mind here. It's an auto-purchase.

LOL. We agree on that 2K football game. Make me cry to think about it. That goes back to that comment about you made. You must REALLY love the Show man. I forgot to mention NFL 2K5. I think THAT is the sports game of the decade. Again, the Show is outstanding, so don't kill me.
