How could it not be? It was already last year. And they've since improved on it significantly. It doesn't get any simpler than that as far as logic goes. And that's great if you're rooting for 2K9. So am I, seeing I only have a 360. But I'm a realist. If a person owns a PS3, they should pick up The Show because it's going to be a sensational game. And they need to rent 2K9 and determine whether it's worth purchasing. That's my advice to the OP.

      Re: should i give 2k9 a look?

Well, I am one of the guys that has probably given up on playing a baseball game the continues to push buttns to pitch and throw tothe bases. I played a ton of MLB 2K8, which became a much better game post patch. If you then turned off the cut scenes, the game played poretty darn solid. There were still slowdowns as OF caught the ball, but the rest of the game just felt right.

The key to any baseball game is the ability to instill tension in the pitcher/batter match-up. The right stick pitching mode was just perfect in producing this. When it got late in the game, it became hardr and harder to get the pitches right. If I fell behind, I was less likely to throw my curve. If I got in a groove with a certain pitch, it woud get a boost, while at the same time I might be losing ratings on another pitch.

As it is, I would rather not play a game than go back to button pushing.

There is no denying that The Show was a solid, well done game of baseball. But regardless of all the negatvivity that surrounded 2K8, I persoanlly had a blast playing the game. In my opinion, if they just fixed the frame rate, it would have been one of my favorite games of all-time. I had too many hard fought games, with realistic strategy involved, to consider the game a failure.

If I did decide to get a Ps3 to play button mashing baseball, it stil wouldn't be The Show. I'd import Professional Baseball Spirits 5, as that game looks a hell of a lot better than The Show.

i played 2k8 for a minute last year and the pitching controls were a outstanding idea. the thought of pushing buttons for hitting and pitching in the show this year just doesnt thrill me. but the idea of using the stick system in 2k9 is very exciting to me.

i will be honest, i loved 2k7, i hated 2k8 (which is why i bought the ps3). Do you guys think from what you have read and seen of 2k9 that i would be an idiot for choosing 2k9 over the show? is 2k9 gonna look and play better then 2k8? what about the choppy graphics from 2k8? those controls are really intriguing to me

        thanks!
Geez another one of these threads. How hard is it to read the other 20 threads just like this and make a decision from there. I'm just saying............

No double standard there. Not at all.

The game will be solid, without a doubt. But comments like this are just full of blind optimism despite the reality of the situation.

Speaking of double standards, I notice how you jumped on that comment but failed to address the comments about the show being "game of the decade" and "best baseball game ever". That's why threads like this are totally useless. They always bring out the bias in everyone..............

To you it's the best, but not to me.

The Shows prehistoric controlls, ugly player models and way off signature styles, just make the game hard to get into...To ME.

2k baseball games may not be the most realistic out of the box, but every year I find a way to get it to play realistic, so theres no reason for me to switch to The Show...Cause with 2k I get next gen controlls, great player models, accurate signature styles, and realistic game play after tweaking sliders.

With The Show I get realistic game play, ugly player models, way off signature styles, and super nintendo controlls.

            2k is 4 for 4

The Show is 1 for 4

The reason would be because The Show has proven to be a sensational game the past three years, and the 09 demo has just upped the anti yet again. Compare that to 2K's baseball game history over the same time period: several mediocre efforts at best. And no, that's not bias. Take a poll on OS and I would guess 90% or more of OS members would vote The Show as the better game -- the much better game actually, as in not even a contest. Same goes for any game site on the internet. The Show has gotten rave reviews while 2K baseball has been universally panned.

Like I said, I'm hoping 2K9 is a good game given all I've got is a 360. But realities are realities. 2K has some serious work ahead in the next couple of years if they plan on catching up with SCEA. And with the exception of a few people who love the R stick, almost every video baseball gamer here or elsewhere would agree with that. Not dissing 2K; just stating the facts as they are.

Did you mean 'ante' or was that a Freudian keyboard slip, meaning upping the 'anti-Show sentiment'.

I actually enjoyed the 2k8 demo. If the framerate is constant, 2k9 will definitely be a solid game.

                  Re: should i give 2k9 a look?

I'd give it a look, but The Show is the creme de la creme, and from the responses of community leaders to the build they played at the community event, the best has gotten better by leaps and bounds.

I'm not biased, either, I don't think. I haven't played baseball games by any one company long enough to develop an emotional attachment to a brand. Rather, I develop my emotional cathexis to the product, and no other baseball game feels like The Show.

That game just makes me feel like I'm playing baseball. APF does that for me with football, and what keeps me coming back are "the little things" that you see 500 games in and never saw before or only saw rarely. The Show is so full of those that it will make your head spin. I'm sure 2k will get some of that stuff in there too, but they're starting with so little, whereas The Show is building on an embarassment of riches.

To my mind, it's probably like the difference between a Camry and a Benz. They're both good cars. They both do the job, and they both run right. One's just in a different class.

Ha! Good catch. For the record I think the posters here on the 2K forum deserve a lot of credit. The vast majority are long-time 2K gamers like myself who, while hoping for a great game from VC this year, are adult enough and savvy enough that they can still appreciate what a great game The Show is.

Anyone who says The Show is not a great game is just bitter @ PS3 owners. It may not be your cup of tea but you can't deny it being a very good game.

I just hope one day my 360 will have a baseball game I can say that about.

Get outta here with that comment man.

You show up like clockwork during all of VC's releases to troll the bridges and here's another example.

Do ME a favor and put me on ignore. I'm tired of your comments in my direction that are made without any insight because of your personal issues. Thanks.

Aaaaaaaaand THAT is why I didn't address the other comment. Because his was made without childish things such as this.

The truth comes out eventually on the boards. There ya go.

It's just another way of saying 2k does more for me than The Show.Claiming that "The Show 09' is the best baseball game of all time" is more childish to me...No one has even played the full game yet, so how can you know for sure? What if 2k9 blows it out of the water? The controlls, signature styles and player models already do!

It has nothing to do with being jealous of PS3 owners like somebody else said.My brother has a PS3 and that pretty much means I have a PS3, and I have given The Show a chance to impress me every year since 2006.I bought 06' myself and was not impressed with it.My brother loved it and has bought the game every year since...And every year I give The Show a shot, and I just get bored with it.

Dozens (hundreds?) of gamers on the 09 demo impressions thread are all saying the same thing. They all can't be childishly naive, certainly.

I was giving you a way out here, lol. Look, you've gone from presenting your opinions in a thoughtful manner, to posting mocking comments about The Show and bizarre statements about other peoples' comments. I don't know what's got your dander up, but c'mon, be logical. If someone can say The Show blows and is a 1 out of 4, how is calling The Show the best game ever, childish? That makes zero sense.

Anyway, my advice to the OP stands. Buy The Show because you can trust it'll be a fantastic game. And based on 2K's past history, rent 2K9, or at least play a demo before deciding.
