I have to say im saddened by this too.

As some of you may remember, i was a big 2K7 fan (best in the series imo) and was well known and (i hope) respected on here for my slider work with that game, thats how much i thought of it, but since leaving in 08 for a PS3 and The Show, i really genuinely wanted 2K to pull all the stops out after (what i read, never played it) the abomination that was 2K8, to try and give us 2 great baseball games, because competition between the two would drive the market and the games continual improvement nicely, but some of these omissions/errors/gameplay flaws im reading about for 2K9 are absolutely unforgivable, and a massive kick to the gut for anyone hoping 2K might give them at least a solid product this year.

Its sad, genuinely very sad.

The omissions really aren't forgivable at all. Maybe in a baseball game from 6 years ago they might.

I honeslty do feel bad for people who won't get to expierience the The Show.

Basically IMO it stinks that 360 owners are basically handcuffed to play 2k or nothing. Very similar to people like myself who are forced to buy EA football or nothing. Thankfully APF has pretty good gameplay but it just isn't the same not using real teams.

- huh? sorry buddy, you have me confused w/somebody else...I play NBA 2k9 practically every day. been playing sega/2k games since dreamcast...try again.

Maybe it was JonahFalcon that I saw that. If so, I apologize. It just seems to me that guys are just trying to rip this game a new butt before they have released it. Now I'm thinking MVP2004 or 5 when I'm playing it. (the demo) I've never played the Show, seeing as I'm 360 only, so I'm not trying to compare it to that. Like I said, I'm just not feeling the hate. I'm more worried about it not freezing up and having a crap framerate. I know that the game was ripped apart and rebuilt to fix a lot of the mess it became under Kush's development. Maybe I'm the one who's out of place, trying to enjoy the game for what it is this year and my just wanting a good, stable game. So I'm sorry if I came off as harsh or judgmental. It just is that I'm hoping the best for this game as a 360 guy. Peace.

well, a moderator over at 2k just ripped the game. if that isn't telling enough along with this 6.5, I don't know what is.

it actually LOOKS like a video game developer who just knows basketball and football, tried to make a baseball game and fell flat on their faces...if that is the case, who is to say that next year will be different or better?

Meh, I stopped listening to reviews years ago after IGN grossly overrated the unplayable WWE Raw 2.

The omissions in 2K9 are forgivable for a first year effort. I'm taking that into consideration when I play this game. For what it is, it's pretty good.

Will I play The Show? Yes, and I'm looking forward to it. But there's no way in hell I'm buying another console just for one game. No way in hell.

I'd agree to an extent normally, but I have to ask...how long is 2K baseball going to get that free pass? 2K7 was " a good first year effort," 2K8 was a mess, but people said "Well, it was only year two," 2K9 now gets the "good first year effort" tag as well.

I'm not knocking the improvements they've made, it's just odd that they seemed to take away so much from the aspects that can build a solid core for a game, while seemingly only adding things that are superficial.

VC has a good record over the years and certainly has the pedigree to move things forward. The bigger question I have is why so many steps back to maybe (and it's really only a maybe) get there eventually?

I don't know. I'm not entirely convinced, what OXM thinks has tended to go against what I think. I'll be a bit more convinced when IGN gets their hands on it. But honestly, I thought the demo was fun. Maybe my view is different cause I haven't been playing a "next-gen" baseball game (last one was MVP 05 on good ol' Xbox).

As far as "taking features out," it was my understanding that they were rebuilding this game from the ground up. So it's crap that some of the things that were supposedly in earlier versions that aren't in now (especially that whole deal with exhibition, that's pretty stupid), but 6.5 still seems somewhat low.

I also don't see what the love affair with 2k7 is all about. It didn't seem that good to me. I guess to each his or her own, but I'm still excited about this game. We'll see what happens.

- I agree 100%...but let me correct you, MLB 2k6 was on the XBOX 360 as well - so this is their FOURTH effort to try and make a NEXT GEN GAME and still haven't gotten it right...

like i said a few replies ago, people are saying "MAYBE NEXT YEAR!!" this is their fourth try, and the game hasn't even been released yet!!!

can you all conceive it!? that this game just might possibly score LOWER than mlb 2k8!?!?

guys calm down....the game is not a 6.5

that is the guys opinion and since when do those sites have real sports fans

I think this game after playing for 3 days now is a game that will quench your thirst for baseball

sliders, sliders, sliders, sliders...i have tweaked a few and the game is playing light years better then out of the box and the game out of the box is better then the demo

i am not saying is a great game..it has a lot of quirks that hold it back

but there is work arounds for a lot of these issues and i know that 2k will patch the game later on

I bet any of you that some will start to buy it when most people come here and start to say is not a bad game afterall

rent it...dont get down because of a review

^^^I don't maybe it is let's give everybody a second chance mentality that is prevelant. Before long that second chance becomes a 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on chance.

I gave 2k their second chance with 2k8 and I was done. I didn't exactly love the idea of the having to buy a PS3 just to get a good sim expierence. Thankfully The Show was good enough to validate my purchase. People who only own a 360 deserve better.

No, I get you. I know 2K6 was on it also, but that was pretty much a port over from the older version right? I was speaking in terms of the "first year effort" statement being attributed to this game (Brinkman's first year was 2K7).

It's sad, I agree, but I highly doubt it gets lower than 2K8. The issues are numerous, but to be honest many of them aren't things the average gamer would care about...and that's generally who the review's for.

Based on early impressions, the game itself seems to be better than 2K8. It's just the apparent limiting of options that has some of us miffed. Couple that with a couple big bugs (franchise budgets-yes I know the patch will address this, and the recently reported freeze) and it makes you hesitate. Plus, we have no idea if the budget issue will completely solve the FA troubles.

That said, I think this game will generally be received better than 2K8 by the average gamer. That's the trouble we're seeing here, I think. Many of us are more in-depth and looking for more than a "pick-up-and-play" experience.

Also, for those who keep going back to the "take reviews with a grain of salt" point, I agree with that premise. The thing is, that's generally not the source of the hesitation. It's reviews by the gamers who have it, both here and on 2K's own forum that make you step back.

When you have guys who've been accused of being 2K apologists being hard on the game, it certainly pricks your ears up a bit.

I do think if I could afford a PS3 I'd just get the Show. But I think for all of the second and third and fourth chance people there are just as many "Never Again" people who write off a game without even giving it a chance, and at the first sign of trouble will cast it off. I'm not entirely convinced from this one review.

Of course, if anyone has a spare $450 to give, I'll gladly buy a PS3 and join in the sh*tstorm for MLB 2k9.

Again though...lol...hardly anyone (I don't think anyway) is basing there opinions of this review. This review just opened up a disucssion that's been going on the last couple days is all.

I, for one, didn't even read the review...lol. Could care less. It's the reviews of people here that have made me say, "uh oh."
