Personally I think it's still broken. Teams will resign players for next to nothing. The yankees will resign just about all of their free agents, Jeter resigned for 10 mil, Javy Vasquez and Pettite resigned for 3.5 M, Mariano Rivera signed for about 5 M. They also usually resign for a crazy amount of years, most of them sign for 5 years.

So you'll see more free agents, but that's only if the teams don't have a big contract expiring(the yankees have around 70 mil expiring, and they'll resing all their upcoming free agents and still have a lot of money left).

If only 2k would let us edit the size of the budgets for the teams, then we could just lower them and free agency would be fine.

But we can edit budgets. Yes I responded to myself contradicting what I last said. We can change the budgets by editing contract before starting a franchise. So if we lower them to what the total payroll between major and minor leagues of every team is, we can have lowered budgets. Now I have not tested this to see how many people will hit the free agent market, but I am going to sometime tonight and hope that it works. I can't say I'm too optimistic it will work, but I'm going to test it.

You have to lower some players contracts before you start a franchise. I already went through and got the difference of every teams budget and payroll(majors and minors), and now I just have to take that money from players contracts. I'm going to test it tonight to see if there are more free agents, and see how the game adjusting the budget at the end of the year changes everything.

Here's an example of what I'll do. Say the cubs have 24 M left in the budget(I'm just making up these #'s just so you guys know). I think Sorinao makes 14.4 in the default rosters, so I'll take 14 M off of his contract and 10 M off of someone like Carlos Zambrano. I will do this for each team. Once I start the franchise, I will fix the contracts I edited to be the default contracts.

i really hope this works..cause it's tough to invest a lot of time into franchise if it doesn't...

So lower contracts from a few big contracts. Then start the franchise put them back to whatever their default is would fix 2011 FA but what about after that when Mauer signs for a bag of balls. I feel that the problem would arise every season.

It didn't work. There's a few reasons why. Every team who has a budget under $65 M will get bumped up to $65 M. Teams who have big contracts expiring still sign their players for a penny on the dollar. Then the teams who are above 65 M have little to spend so players just rot in free agency. It was worth a shot, would've been much less work for people who haven't started their franchise yet.

It's a real shame that you truly can dive into a franchise for the long haul with this game. This, and the sim engine problem combined completely kills the franchise game mode, and there's no way a patch is going to fix them both, and more than likely neither will be fixed.

why don't you just control all the teams and not do anything with them during the season and at the end you can decide who goes into the FA market. if you follow enough baseball you will be able to doctor up a good market this way

But again - isn't this something we will have to do each and every season of the franchise?

Re: GETTING FREE AGENCY TO WORK

Ik this is mostly just about getting FA to work but I also wanted to tie something else into it if i could.

I just dont see how you plan on getting past having to control all 30 teams even if some one does find a way for p-layers to go to FA. I noticed that for the most part after 40 man rosters the CPU rosters don't change.

Here is a few examples of what I mean by this :

                            1) After the 40 man roster the computer doesn't mess with there roster unless the spot becomes opens(injury or trade). Ex: Tampa traded for Brandon Inge(gave up a pitcher). This didn't open a spot in the lineup so he sat along side Pat Burrell on the bench while Willy Aybar played DH.

                            2) The comp doesn't take into account who is better vs R/L when making there lineup. I was able to call up David Ortiz by controlling the "cpu roster" since i didn't control all 30 teams. Anyways I found if i sent down Lowell and called up Ortiz then it would open the DH spot. It was then a 50/50 chance of who they were going to throw into that spot when i simmed to next game.

                            3) After 40 man rosters Jamie Moyer closes over Brad Lidge and there is no way to fix this.

2K sports...the only place where such things as errors can be "over looked" while making a baseball game.

The worst part, really, is that all of this was also a huge problem last year too; we complained a ton and yet it's just as broken in 2k10 as it was in 2k9.

2K did a decent job this year of improving the on-field game (which, in many respects, is most important). But their online play is still laggy, and franchise is still totally broken, so we're limited to just Exhibition games and "My Player" (yawn) as the only modes truly playable for our $60. Pretty sad.
