    Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

I said I would try and play all 162 games this season. No restarts..nothing funny....

Well my M's franchise is not going to well...0-6, King felix on the mound to try and stop my o'fer...and now he gives up a monster job to Josh Hamilton...then comes he up again and hits a grand slam..oh, damit....10 ER for Mr. Felix...was not his day...sounds like the real M's in there first week in 2011., but down 10 runs in 3rd...of the last afternoon game before hopping on a plane out of Texas, they are just batting whores...I need to make a splash in the AL West for a division crown...maybe a can settle down in Seattle in the first home series in 2011 vs Indians...so far not looking so good.....but I'm having a freaking blast this year, now if we could just get out patch please, MLB2k11 will even be better.

      Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

geez my bats have come alive. was 3-3 with the jays after my first 2 series against minny/oakland, highest run total was 4 runs. first game out west in LA, chased haren before he recorded an out (4 hits, 2BB, 4 ER). ended up piling up 20 hits in the game and scoring 9 runs. next game against big Erv my offense is going to work again. my contact/power is only 35/55, opposing pitch speed 75, but i might have to lower my contact to 30.

its just so weird though b/c first 6 games i didn't total even 9 hits in any of the games.

a BIG thing i've started doing that has been unreal for my power (even my flyouts are going real deep) is only pulling back the right analog stick so the batter goes into his power stance. seems really obvious, but until recently i was pulling the stick all the way back and resting it on the controller. but i can time/get to the ball so much quicker just gently pulling back, and it's basically almost the same as leaving it in the centre distance wise, yet you get the power stroke instead.

Anyone using the Pirates? Been thinking of using them or the Mets. I'm a Yankees fan and using them is always too easy.

What type of trades has anyone made with the Pirates?

          I've been using the Pirates.

I started w/ them in a single-team franchise when the game came out.

Then once the season started I moved to my all-30 teams franchise.

However, I'm back on my Pirates 'Chise now. I've really enjoyed this one, and I haven't really been up for the rigors of an all-30 teams franchise. Sorta like controlling just one team (Pirates) for a change.

I've been decimated by injuries...and Andrew McCutchen has been mired in a horrendous slump.

Pedro Alvarez was the hottest hitter in the league before fraturing his ankle at the end of April. Neil Walker has turned it up though in his absence, and his 2nd among MLB 2B (Behind only Cano) in just about every hitting category.

Jose Tabata is a gem too...he gets on base frequently, and he's stealing a lot of bags.

As for my pitching, I really like james McDonald - good stuff. It's just that he's been injured, and missed some time on the 15 Day DL. The stupid "rehab-assignment" glitch has not corrected itself, and is still lowering some of his pitch ratings.

I like pitching with Ross Ohlendorf too, he has a lot of pitches in his arsenal. His ERA is in the low 5's, but his strike out total is real good. He just needs to keep the ball in the park.

Since Joel Hanrahan has been out, and will be out a total of 45 days, Evan Meek has filled in nicely as the interim Closer. All of his pitch ratings have been increased, and he's stingy w/ allowing runners. He started off rough, but has returned to his All-Star form over the month of May.

All in all my Pirates team is sitting at 22-25, and in 4th place in the NL Central.

            Update on my Oriole's Franchise:

Just passed the trade deadline and didn't make any moves--despite a real urge to do so. I haven't check the wire yet to see what moves were made by other teams, though.

I'm 7.5 games ahead of the second place Sawx and in a comfortable position heading into the final two months. I recently went on a tear, winning 11 of 12, including 2 of 3 against those BoSox. My lineup has cooled from their hot streak earlier in the season (same thing happened last year) and I'm going to have to depend on my entire team to keep up the pace in order to make the playoffs.

My lineup is completely healthy, but I have a few pitchers on the DL.

Again, keeping in mind my stunning collapse in September last year, I'm hoping I can just hold on at this point. Even .500 ball for the rest of the season would almost guarantee a postseason berth. The Oriole's can't screw this up, right? Right?!

Was May 23rd and felt like a good time to make a trade in my Pirates 'Chise...

Had no plans to re-sign Doumit, and I had been playing Jeff Clement at catcher since he has 3 more HRs than Doumit in about half the ABs.

Since Colorado was leading the West and in need of some pitching help, and an extra bat to susttain there success, here's the deal which was accepted:

              Pirates Send:
              C/OF/1B - Ryan Doumit
              SP - Scott Olsen

              Colorado Sends:
              RP - Edgmer Escalona
              RP - Franklin Morales
              3* Prospect - Oscar Santos

              Thoughts?

Morales had a 7.00+ ERA in AAA. Hoping I can develop him, and get him on the right track. Santos has some heat, and is a 23yr old prospect...still needs a lot of work too. Escalona is a nice addition, a solid 24 yr old arm w/ a mid-90's fastball and 2 other breaking pitches with good movement.

Doumit has been hitting, but not for power and is in the final yr of a $4M deal. He's hitting .316 w/ one homer, and 17 RBI.

Scott Olsen had been OK. He's sporting a 5.00 ERA, but has had some good starts mixed with just a few bad ones. He should definitely help out the back-end of Colorado's staff though.

I don't know, man. Other than saving payroll, a Pirates M.O., I'm not sure that trade puts you forward much. Think of it this way: you are giving up a SP, albeit an average one (although I've got Olsen on my staff in my Oriole's 'chise ) and a starting position player for two relief pitchers and a prospect. If the prospect was a 5 star potential position player or starting pitcher, it would probably be a good trade, but 3 star prospects are a dime a dozen in the offseason--especially in the bullpen.

Starting pitchers aren't always available, especially ones that give you a chance to win every time out, and they often cost more to acquire by trade than they are worth.

That being said, I don't know what your RP situation was/is, so maybe it did help significantly in the back end of your bullpen, but if that was real life, the Pirates fans might be asking for your head...or just continue to ignore the problem like normal

                  Re: MLB2K11 Franchise Progress

                  Update on my Orioles franchise:

The hot streak continues and I am 32 games over .500. Yes you read that right. The same team that finished 82-80 last year, with some minor additions in the bullpen and starting rotation, has soared this year. I am a full 11 games ahead of the Yanks, 13 ahead of the Sawx, and with only a month and half to go, it's going to take an collossal collapse (much like last September ) to put me in any danger of not making the postseason.

I finally have my full lineup back and relatively healthy (Vlad is nursing a sprained wrist, but I'm running him out there every day anyway ). The biggest difference, besides the offense, has been the steady pitching I've been getting from both the starters and the bullpen. I made a few signings in the offseason to make sure I had a veteran bullpen and eliminate a few black holes in my starting rotation (Jake Arrieta, I'm looking in your direction).

Still my offense ranks first in most major categories which has been the biggest help. Mark Reynolds even glimpsed .300 a month ago, although he's settled a bit to .287 as of today. Still, with the power I'm getting from Vlad, Reynolds, Weiters, Scott, and Jones I rarely have to worry about getting shutdown entirely.

I'm hoping this will be the year I finally get to taste the postseason!

I checked again and the prospect I received was a 4* prospect, but he is a RP w/ only 60 stamina.

Olsen was signed on a 1yr deal too, and with Paul Maholm's contract expiring I would possibly like to re-sign him.....It was basically re-sign Maholm, or re-sign Doumit.

Since Doumit has not been hitting for power, and is not really a serviceable fielder he was on the chopping block. Chris Snyder is my everday catcher, and my OF is pretty much set w/ Tabata, McCutchen, and G.Jones.

I feel like you can never have enough arms in the bullpen...especially with the way the injury bug bites in this game .

Currently 13-9 in my Mets franchise. Only major injury so far is Daniel Murphy, who is on the 60 day DL due to a torn MCL. Some statistics of offensive players:

Jose Reyes: .360 BA, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 6 SB
Angel Pagan: .296 BA, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 5 SB
David Wright: .321 BA, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 4 SB
Ike Davis: .312 BA, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 0 SB
Carlos Beltran: .298 BA, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 1 SB
                      Jason Bay (4 games): .200, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 0 SB
                      Josh Thole: .308, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB
                      Willie Harris: .186, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SB

I LOVE Chris Snyder in this game. I picked him up as an emergency acquisition when both Matt Weiters (starting catcher) and Jake Fox (backup catcher) went down with significant injuries. Somehow he was just sitting in the FA pool in May and not on anyone's roster. I ended up signing him and he played everyday for about 2 and 1/2 weeks putting up good numbers. Alas, I had to send him down to AAA when both guys came back from the DL, but when I expand rosters in a few weeks to 40 he's the first person getting the call. Power off the bench. Booyaa.

As for the trade, the 4 star prospect definitely makes the trade better, as he may even turn into a 5 star prospect if developed right. 60 stamina makes him a good late innings eater if he's got the stuff for it.

I know this is going to make my Orioles team start to sound like the Pirates' AL East affiliate, but I also have Paul Maholm in my starting rotation. He and Olsen were two of the better pitchers available in FA last year, so I picked them both up (I was surprised they weren't garnering more bids, actually, as they are both relatively young and stable).

Who knows, the Rocks may fail to sign Olsen and you may get him back anyway

                            1) You will not need to restart your franchise with a new patch as far as anyone is aware. It hasn't effected franchises in past iterations of the game.

                            2) I'm having a blast with Franchise mode. Definitely the most fun I've had with a baseball game since MVP 2005...and I don't say that lightly. With MLB 2K10, I still had the urge to pop that game in now and again and not just for the nostalgia factor--it just played a better game of baseball compared to 2k10. This game finally has the gameplay and depth that makes me forget that MVP is collecting dust on my DVD shelf.

                                Carlos Beltran
                                Russ Adams

Scherzer is a young dependable arm, and really the only pitching Detroit has outside of Verlander.
