But when I use Contact, the hit variety is out of this world. So, my two-parter is this: what sliders would you recommend for using only Contact swing? And b) would I just be better off using Classic swing?
Are you using the left stick to influence at all? From what I understand stay away from L stick up unless you want a sac fly. But if you hold the stick L/R to pull and an inside pitch comes in I think contact increases (which hopefully would lead to less popouts?)

Next time I play I'm going to go into batting practice to get a feel for exactly what that L stick does. I used it several times holding it in a Northwest position and pulled several fly's to the warning track. I've only hit one homer so far - on a hanging curveball with perfectly timed power swing (no L stick.) I'm sure that has something to do with it (catching those rare breaking pitches up in the zone.)

Back to impressions: I've only played a few full games so am not sure if this is a problem, but I'm not seeing alot of fouls from contact & power swings. If my Inside Edge says I miss 30% in the low middle zone and put 50% in play - that still leaves some left for foul balls right? I mean just because I use contact shouldn't always mean I make contact. Anyone else see this, or maybe there's a fould ball slider?

Also, on long plays like doubles/triples I'm not able to see the full replay. It always starts when the ball is in the air instead of when the pitcher is about to throw the ball.

Are you on PS3? I'm on 360 and no problem with replay length. I remember Madden had the same issue only on PS3.

I only use classic hitting and have no issue with foul balls. I really like the timing aspect of classic hitting...if you're late or early, then you'll have plenty of fouls.

I'm on 360. Again though it's only on plays that last a long time - 90% of the replays are fine.

And yea maybe my swing timing has something to do with lack of foul balls. I tend to either swing too early/late & miss or hit it dead-red LOL.

I believe this completely!!! I can't control them at all with anyone. Someone else try it right now and tell me if those pitches seem a little off.

All in all....i think this a step forward from previous games. They are improving. Slowly but at least they are improving.

I have a question. I dont have internet...so when i put the game in,...it ask for a update....which i did then played the game. BUT...is that patch that everyone is talking about inside that update also? If not...any way else to get it?

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread

In the spirit of full disclosure - I have both games and have been a fan of the Show since the PS2 days.

This year feeling the need for something different and fresh in its approach I decided to purchase MLB 2K. My initial instinct was correct. What I LOVE about 2K11 is the approach to hitting and pitching with the analog stick. It just feels organic - never the same. It's challenging - yet fair and I actually walk batters. The pitchers feel different - and if a pitcher's main pitch is one I have trouble with the motion on (like the slider) I have to work at really getting batters out. I can't say it enough how good it feels. The hitting just feels natural. The fielding is ok but a bit too unforgiving for my liking. But I am ok with it. The game is just flat out fun. I am happy I purchased it.

That being said - my main gripe with this game - and one I cannot easily get past - is the graphics. This is not a good looking game. The stadiums look good(not great) but the player models and the animations (particularly the transition ones) are just not up to par. It's VERY hard to play Fight Night Champion, The Show, NBA 2K11...and then pop this game in my sytem. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I know - I know...gameplay over graphics. But dangit graphics matter - it's a big part of the immersion factor - and it's the reason we all upgraded tp 360's as opposed to still playing this on the PS2.

I like what 2K11 is doing and I hope they continue down the right path...but as far as I am cooncerned they need to spend 90% of their resources for next years game on the graphics alone. I truly believe the graphics whore inside all gamers will prevent this game from reaching the same level as the Show as long as the graphics are so lagging.

Very fair review of the game and well said throughout. I am in your shoes, long time Show player (though I dabbled in the odd 2K lol) and I really enjoy the fresh approach. I have an easier time over-looking some of the issues but I can understand why some would not.

I've noticed something, the CPU has NEVER hit a pop up in the infield in fair territory, only foul. Also, the game has no INFIELD FLY RULE!

I've played around 5 games so far and I think this game is a BLAST! I love the presentation, the feel of hitting and the amazing hit variety, the fact that pitching is much more lifelike, the new fielding, the new potential and injury system in franchise mode and much more. If they can patch the silly glitches and fatigue in franchine then I can see myself playing this for months and months.

I know the visuals are an issue for some but for me (On 360) it looks perfectly ok. The shadows are a little ropey but overall the lighting is good and I like the detail on the uniforms. Yes there is room for improvement but personally I would prefer that the game sacrifice a little in this department to keep the gameplay smooth. I still have memories of 2K8.

                              Early Impressions

I haven't played enough to know if good simulation type results are possible, and have only been playing single games on the default difficulty, but man I am liking this game.

The animations are functional, the graphics are not very impressive, and I have seen a few strange things occur. But the good far outweigh any bad I have seen so far.

-The camera angles are great, and I really like how each stadium has a unique pitching camera (when set to "Broadcast" view).
-The pitcher versus hitter battles are very good, though as I mentioned above I haven't played enough to tell if full on realism is possible.
-Total control hitting feels very nice. It has a simplicity to it, and it just feels right.
-Total control pitching I'm not too keen on, but classic pitching I like a lot. When your pitcher gets rattled I think it's very well done.

This game feels like a keeper. That could be because I had somewhat low expectations for it, and maybe I just haven't played enough to have problems creep up on me. But usually I can tell pretty quickly whether a game is worthwhile, and I'm seeing enough at this point that makes me think this is one of those games.

                              I don't know... Gimme a few weeks I suppose.
                              All ties severed...

I've had one, 3rd base side. The words "Infield Fly Rule" appeared in the center of the screen and the ump called "infield fly". Hopefully you'll see it soon.
