Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
What if you did it this way (I haven't opened the game yet, still deciding whether to keep it, so I'm asking): Had two controllers going, with the second one positioned in the middle. Then, whenever you need to make a realistic substitution or pinch hitter, etc., move that second controller to the other team, do what you need to do and then move it back to the middle, so that it doesn't affect your user stats in any way?
This sounds like a time-consuming, convoluted process, but I certainly don't want to see the CPU taking starting pitchers out every game after only three runs or keeping relievers in too long. And I have no faith in 2k being able or willing to fix this.
Edit: On second thought, if the CPU is about to take its starting pitcher out, there's nothing you can do to prevent it, is there? Once it's done it's done. I don't see how switching controllers will help. This method would only seem to work if you want to replace the CPU pitcher who's being left in there too long.Last edited by Spanky; 03-12-2011, 02:54 AM.It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. Sounds feasible. But does switching teams affect your user record and user stats (assuming this game keeps track of those)?

I believe you can do it this way without it having any effect on your user profile

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Well, couldn't help myself. Saw the game in an online gameshop, which is very rare here in the netherlands. Ordered it yesterday and it was in the mailbox today.
Sofar have only played a few innings. I immediately fired up a nightgame, as that was the most disappointing graphics wise last year on the ps3.
It seems nightgames are even worse then last year. The uniforms look really really bad.
That being said the day games look absolutely gorgeous. Pitching has been improved, especially the borderline strike issue.
Have not tried much yet, but the hitting feels more organic too.
So far i'm loving the game. Now all i do is put the kids to bed and tell my wife to go upstair (yeah right, who am i kidding) and it's playtime!!!Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Disclaimer: I played A LOT of 2k10 last year and only own a 360. Not privy to the "other game."
Well, despite all the negativity around this thread, I really like the game and have not regretted my purchase. The graphics are pretty solid, even if some of the animations/cutscenes/camera angles can be a bit wonky at times. But even with those instances, the game provides enough beautiful moments to far outweigh them.
My biggest gripes from last year seem to have been answered, minues one. The gripes that have been fixed are fielding, hit variety, and the ability to change the opposing pitcher in a "play ball" game. The only thing they still haven't fixed is allowing the player to access the "player card" feature during lineup selection. The only stat we can see is batting average...kind of weird.
Anyway, I'm really enjoying the fielding, although I still feel like I'm locked into an outcomes sometimes outside my control, i.e. fielder won't dive in time to snag the ball (or just outright refuses to dive), outfielders run slowly to balls in front of them, etc.
The hitting feels smooth. I really enjoy the sensation of pulling the ball down the line or smacking a dying quail over the SS. The hit variety really is enjoyable, although I feel like I need to tweak some sliders still to get realistic numbers (I'm still getting a lot of shots into the gap creating lots of double and triples).
Franchise, despite the glitch with the fatigue, has been a lot of fun. The depth to which you can micromanage your entire organization is sometimes overwhelming, but I get a certain sense of satisfaction trying to put my current one star players with five star potential in places where they can succeed. It is a lot of fun knowing that their performance WILL dicate their development and is not predetermined. It adds infinitely more depth into personnell decisions, which is what Franchise is all about.
The injuries, while some complain are a little obstrusive, I think are perfect. Personally, I like a challenge, and part of the challenge of baseball is having a deep organization to fill unexpected holes. With all the injuries to my pitchers and position players, it has made me look more into the minor league development than I ever have before in ANY game.
As far as a score, I would say 9/10. If it weren't for some minor bugs the game would be near perfect for my tastes, and I do love simulation.Comment

Sadly, he was pretty much my best option in the minors. I'm trying to keep it real, avoid the free agency if at all possible and keep it 'in-house', you know, like GM John Mozeliak is doing. I don't think he's going to fare much better than I am in my virtual season, unfortunately.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Number one thing so far is the game is fun. I only played the demo last year so I can't speak to the improvement.- I really like the pitching. Feels organic so far. My concern is that pitching is going to get really easy really quick. I threw a 3 hitter my second game out of the box.
- Presntaion is very solid to me. I'm more of a skip cut scenes kind of guy but if you have the time you should enjoy.
- Commentary is very good. Not sure how deep it will be as I haven't played too much yet.
- Injuries are crazy. I lost Chipper Jones for 55 days and had another player who started the season playing with an injury. Tim Hudson went down for over 100 days in the 7th inning of my first game with a broke ankle. Crazy.
- I use classic hitting and it seems to work pretty well. Tried the analog but just haven't got the feel for it yet.
- Player models kinda suck in IMO. I was expecting a little better from 2k with the models.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
And too bad our Cardinals have pretty crappy depth in the minors. I lost Carpenter and Westbrook and actually had to call up and use PJ Walters as a spot starter. Within the first 2 days of his call-up, he's already got himself an abbreviated start and a stout 18.00 ERA under his belt.
Sadly, he was pretty much my best option in the minors. I'm trying to keep it real, avoid the free agency if at all possible and keep it 'in-house', you know, like GM John Mozeliak is doing. I don't think he's going to fare much better than I am in my virtual season, unfortunately.
I am assuming you are using the rosters that have Wainright on the DL for the year? If so, your rotation is REALLY depletedComment

What kind of freezing are you getting? I posted about mine in the bugs thread. I don't want to elaborate here because this is the impressions thread.Comment

PC Version
I am pleasantly surprised. It's not the master piece on the field the show is, but that's fine with me. I'll have fun with it.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
love what they have done with this game from last years. it's great that after taking three steps off first base to get a big lead that pitchers don't automatically throw over to try and pick you off like they did in 2k10. also love the updated hats on the players' pictures. used to bug the hell out of me when players on new teams had the hats of their old teams. hahaComment
