There is a big gap between a good pitcher and a bad pitcher. You can really notice the difference when you bring in those middle relievers and pray to hold leads. Benoit needs better control on the default ratings for the Tigers. He's sucked whenever I brought him in.

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Well in real life, we do have some depth, but some of it isn't as far along (like Shelby Miller, who I doubt is reflected in the game). I hear you about keeping it in house though. I never have had trouble winning the WS in any baseball video game, so sometimes it's nice to have a little challenge getting to the postseason.
I am assuming you are using the rosters that have Wainright on the DL for the year? If so, your rotation is REALLY depletedComment

I love this part of the game though. You really need to keep an eye on pitch counts because if you go even slightly over then trouble is just waiting to happen.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
This game just passes the fun test in spades for me.
Im playing my 2nd play now game vs the yankees..this time the matchup is Pelfrey vs C.C.
Pagan gets a double, Beltran drives him in and I jump out 1-0.
I'm holding it down with Pelfrey, but he only lasts 5.1 BECAUSE HE CANT LOCATE A FRIGGEN BREAKING BALLLLLL..and they say the game isnt realistic hehe
Anyway, im up 1-0, in the the 5th..the 1st 2 baserunners get on, Pelfrey is gassed, in comes Buchholtz who promptly gives up a walk, and then behind Tex 3-0, serves up a grand slam. 4-1
One thing that sticks out(no pun intended), is that I find the LS to be near useless for batting.
Unless Im up 3-0, 3-1, 2-0, and am just going to zero in on a paticular zone, I dont use it.
Outisde of flyball/groundball, I dont see a use for it. If I want to pull a ball, I'll load up a smidge earlier, if I want to drive a pitch, I'll wait on it a bit more.Last edited by sportyguyfl31; 03-13-2011, 10:14 AM.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
This is so true. You also don't want to try and pitch with a tired pitcher! I just had a game in my new Cubs franchise against the Rockies where I lost my starter in the 3rd inning to injury and then had to roll right through my bullpen as the game went to 14 innings. Eventually I had basically nothing left to draw upon and the CPU pounced to snatch the winning run.
I love this part of the game though. You really need to keep an eye on pitch counts because if you go even slightly over then trouble is just waiting to happen.
Tell that to Dusty Baker.......lol.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Is anyone else having a problem with to many injuries occuring and destroying your roster. I'm in my fourth game of the franchise and I've had two starting pitchers go down. One injured his arm covering first on a double play. I've had two guys get hurt diving back to a base after a pickoff attempt and one other player get hurt diving after a ball in the field. I'm halfway through my fourth game and had five players go down. At first I thought to myself cool, there are injuries but now it seems to be getting out of hand. Are you guys adjusting the injury slider and if so what are you setting it at? Thank you.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
Picked up the game Friday night after work...finally got to play my first and only game at 9:00PM on Sunday. Such is life with two kids.
I played A's vs. Twins (CPU) at Minnesota.
Overall, I was pretty thrilled with what I saw. I walked 4 batters with Cahill, mostly because I was trying to be too fine and walked twice myself on offense.
On on of the walks, I wasn't even trying to paint the corner, but just hit the inside box and the pitch got away from me and resulted in a walk to load the bases.
I gave up a 3 spot in the first inning as I adjusted to the mechanic (it's been damn near a year since I played a 2K baseball game). One thing that was tough with Cahill is that he has such a quick delivery from the stretch and I was almost overthrowing every pitch even though I was basically jerking the stick back and forth without any pause.
The presentation was flat out awesome. Without playing much of any of 2K10, almost all of the commentary is brand new to me.
Defensively, everything went pretty well. I thought one of the double play turns was a bit slow and cost me what should have been an out, but I was able to turn one later in the game.
Offensively, I struggled to make solid contact. I was early on almost everything and only hit a few balls solidly. This will take just a bit of getting used to. I didn't strike out a ton, but only managed two hits and two walks (and hit into two double plays).
One thing I did notice is that on the swing feedback screen, the swings look real awkward and ugly...but this may be due to the fact that I was rarely right-on a pitch. It was almost like the hitters wrists were breaking, while his arms were still out front of him extended.
Am looking forward to playing a few more games throughout the week.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
The thing with the graphics at least for me with this game is I think it looks really great. The pacing and stuff going on as the game goes feels like I'm watching/playing a real baseball game. It's very sim. The player models are awesome although some of the lesser known players have this pasty generic look.
BUT, there are glitches here and there and lack of polish that take you out of the experience. The framerates, It hurts my brain to look at sometimes. Especially when it goes from smooth to missing frames suddenly. It's mainly when the ball is in play. The anti aliasing is pretty poor at times especially when it comes to the field and crowds.
The way the game flows is great, but some of the transitions are just off. It has to do with when the camera is changing. It will stick on a player sometimes after the play too long, when you hit a foul ball behind hte plate it just jumps to this sky cam suddenly.
Some of the flash stuff like when you are pitching like the pitch meter kind of flashes too much where you lose sight of where the ball is going.
One of these days we will get a game that just does it all and makes me breakfast afterwards. This game is pretty close. You can see what 2k is doing with their presentation and the direction that has gone into it, and it's really awesome. It even seems like most of this stuff could be fixed with a patch this year.
But yeah in the year 2011 when i want to just sit down and relax and play a game that just does everything right stuff like this can be annoying. I'm tired of being an experimental hamster with this stuff.
Why get a game so close and just not finish it. This is 2k's massive flaw. They just need someone to go in there and clean up the sore spots.Last edited by Celtic34; 03-14-2011, 04:37 PM.Comment

I'd say if you're getting a ton of serious injuries then maybe tone it down, but if they're of the short term nagging variety then it should be ok. And from what I hear with some injuries you can still play them.Comment

Re: Official MLB 2k11 - Impressions Thread
The OS review said they had a lot of franchise injuries as well to the point where 6 regulars were on the DL at the same time. I do know that 25% of the money spent on pitchers ends up on the DL in MLB. Players get nicked up a lot in real baseball.Comment
