Re: MLB 2K11 - "The Little Things"

There's a great bobble and catch animation that my middle infielders have had several times. It's really cool and adds a nice dramatic touch to fielding. It's a little thing to be sure, but it makes fielding alive, so to speak.

The change in camera angles when a pitcher is about to throw to the bag to pick you off is also a very little thing but it has a cool impact. Every time the angle shifts, my heart jumps and I'm like "oh *****, gotta get back!" It's balanced well so you can't just use the shift as a tell and get back every time with ease, and it makes base running a lot more exciting.

I have to disagree with you here. It's very easy for me to reduce my lead down at least a step or two when the camera cuts to this angle, since it stays at that angle for so long.

I noticed once or twice, though, that the pitcher threw to the bag almost as soon as the camera changed and nailed my baserunner.

My theory is that the better the pickoff move of the pitcher, the less time is given between the camera change and the actual throw. Unfortunately, I haven't tested this theory or anything so I could be totally off haha.

But all in all I feel like this camera change makes it too easy for me to get my runner safely back to base.

I agree with you about it the camera change taking place too early. I have no problem getting back to the bag. Hopefully you're right about ratings playing a part in how early the camera changes. That would be incredible!

I think it's a ratings deal. I need to check Dan Haren's pickoff, but I just played him and he nailed me because the throw was basically simultaneous with the camera shift. I was dead in the water and didn't have a huge lead either. I also wonder if the batter's agility and baserunning matter in getting back to the bag.

It'd be interesting to look further into this. In any case, I at least like that there is a camera change; it makes checking the runner/trying to steal a more lively event.

Good point, it could also be the runner's awareness ratings.

And I agree, I like the idea of the camera change overall.

I saw a sweet little double play turn that really impressed me. Tex made a diving stop at first and threw to second from his knees, but had to throw it to the right of the bag because the runner was in the way (even though it was a green throw, it was impossible to make with the runner there). So the throw pulls Jeter slightly off the bag to the right, but as he catches it he spins, reaches back with his left foot to tap the bag, and then throws it to first, all in pretty much one motion.

It was a thing of beauty

I had a funny animation after gunning down a player trying to turn a single into a double. The CPU runner slid head first into 2nd and was out by over a foot. After the tag he kind of rolled onto his back in disgust away from the base.
