Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
Some of the things that 2K does very, very well:
- Commentary
- Analog Pitching
- Hitters Eye
- Ratings for every position for every player
- Circle mechanic when fielding a pop-fly
- Sim stats. Remember when those were posted in April? How the Giants beat the A's in the world series? Or how the Nationals had more wins than the Red Sox and Yankee's?
Man, some people got really fired up about that. Looking back, I would say the sim engine (for wins, losses at least) is pretty freakin' good.
- Fun
There's a lot to be liked in this game. It's not for everyone, but those who like it, like it a lot.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
Fortunately for me, I have NEVER played The Show. I don't know what I'm missing - and the truth is, I don't care. I LOVE the last two MLB 2K games... Very fun to play - and at the end of the day, all I'm looking for is 1) simulation baseball and 2) a fun time. 2K11 and 2K12 have given me both...Comment

I agree completely. Lots to like about 2k, and I am looking forward to another year with it. Ofcourse as a guy in my 40's, it is a little easier for me to enjoy sports games as I grew up on Atari 3 on 3 baseball, and Mattel hand held games with the red blips. I almost feel sorry for the younger folks who who only know of modern day games, and allow the slightest issue to completley ruin the experience for them.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
I like MLB 2K12. I get that it has issues, but I enjoy playing it. And I don't sit there and nit-pick because the texture of the uniforms isn't quite realistic enough! I'm able to appreciate what I have, while still maintaining REALISTIC expectations on how the games can be improved year after year. Besides, 2K12 is the all I've got on the 360, I don't plan on getting a PS3 to try The Show anytime soon, and I don't think I'll be alive to see the day when my Seattle Mariners finally get out of the cellar, unless I do it myself in videogame form.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
i have played a lot of both games. the show is better in many ways and ultimately overall, but 2k12 has a lot, and i mean a lot, going for it. pitching on 2k12 is better. no one can even argue that, imho.
the pitches are easier to pick up in 2k12 also. i draw more walks, at least at first, in 2k12 than the show. hitting is equal between the two, once you realize how to read pitches in the show which is no easy task. once you do they are both equally rewarding.
i love the timing hitting of 2k12. reminds me of mvp 05. i know they said the sticks don't influence the hit, but i have had too many hits that went exactly where i was aiming to believe otherwise.
the show is more sim, but sometimes, not more fun. take a few weeks off the show and it takes a game or five to get your batters eye back. the infield can make any throw almost instantaneously on tough grounders. if you do not use the right analog you will not be able to get the fast runners out on tough ground balls.
the presentation is better in 2k but not as much as people sometimes say, imho again. the show has some nice presentation also.
i sold 2k12 a few months back when i was moving into my new house and gamestop was offering a ridiculous trade in on it and a few more games. (i also have too many games)
but even though i am deep into and really enjoying my show franchise, i am itching to buy this back. there is something about this game that is just plain fun.
btw, i am 47. i like the fact we have two games i can play. i wish that was the case in other sports besides this and soccer.Comment

I feel the same way as you. The other game does so many things well, and better than 2K, but the things that 2K does right, they do really, really well, and the game is just so much fun.
And like you mentioned, reading pitches is SO much easier in 2K. Especially with Hitters Eye. I can really work counts and get the pitch I'm looking for.
When I had both games, I found myself getting more frustrated with The Show, but with 2K, I can't put the controller down. That's what I want in a game. I don't need perfection as long as the game is enjoyable to play and doesn't make me want to throw the controller through the screen - which The Show does.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
I think there is a reason for that. Say the ball is on the outside corner of the plate so you probably flick the left stick away and look at that!! The ball goes away. How the ball comes off the bat on 2k12 is very intuitive.Comment

Re: MLB 2k12 - Impressions Thread (PS3/X360)
The MLB 2k series is a very approachable, pick up and play game that does some things very well. The Show is a tough game and runs at a very different pace so I can see the draw to this game.
It is funny though, it is the opposite for me when I played basketball games. I found the 2k series to run along the same lines in difficulty and approachability like some see with the Show. Where Live's offering was more approachable for pick up and play.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment
