Re: MLB 2k12 freezing at startup screen (workaround)

Man, I had just updated my PC version with mods, etc and was ready to fire it up again for the first time in a while when it kept freezing on the loading screen. I sat there for over an hour going through each mod one-by-one seeing where I was goofed. Saw this thread while googling 2K12 problems, set my clock back to Oct 1 and am all set.

Never would have thought this would be something for a game to goof up (didn't even know it was a known issue since I've been away from the game for quite awhile). It's a stupid problem for a game to have IMO but it's worked around easily enough. Thanks Wudl83!

We have a thread over at mvpmods.com that states the following:
"For everyone who might be interested, I just got off the phone with Brad from 2k Sports support.
They are aware of the date issue that is causing the game to lock up and not allowing you to play it.
(Ie; Having to set your computer date back to, or before, October 3rd to be able to play it.)

They were fixing it as we talked and he said it should be done by or before the end of the week.
HOWEVER, you will have to be connected to the Internet when starting the game up for the update to take effect. In other words, no Internet connection, no update.

While I had him on the phone, I also inquired about two other issues I curious about...

A MLB 2K12 patch for the PC: No patch will be coming.

Will there be a MLB 2K13: No. 2K12 is the final baseball game they will be making.

There you have it straight from the horse's mouth.
I hope this clears everything up for everyone." (http://www.mvpmods.com/index.php?sho...31#entry637302)
thanks for finally getting a hold of someone at 2k.....this has been extremely frustrating, to say the least. watching some great playoff games makes me want to play and this game has been a big pain with the workaround. please keep us updated. thanks again.

Re: MLB 2k12 freezing at startup screen (workaround)

When I called tech support, this is what happened: The guy I spoke with seemed stunned about this and said, "yeah, I've received one call on this today" (which was several days ago - I think I have the date on page 1). So I proceed to tell him the problem and asked if he understood this. He said, "No, I have no idea why this would be happening." I stated, "well, I believe it's an issue with the MLB Today date not progressing, and since there are no games today it's not letting me proceed forward and even play the game."

This is funny: he asks if he can put me on hold. He goes back to some room, and TURNS ON a 360 to put the game in. (I wait...). After about 3 minutes he comes back and says, "well, just delete your settings, sliders and every file on your 360 and once you do this you'll be fine."

I told him I didn't agree with him... But I followed his advice. It wasn't until I came here and did some google search that I figured out a workaround.

And here we are, DAYS LATER, and still NOTHING from 2K... The main 2K forums are so impolite that I'm guessing nothing will be done...

To be honest I think it would be better if those official 2k forums even wouldn't exist. There is a big lack of majurity and especially a lack of direct communication from 2k. Regarding customer support 2k is very bad.

just the fact us gamers had to figure this out for ourselves is a real shame....don't any of the developers who made 2k12 play this game right now? UGH.

Considering that 2K is done with Baseball games for now I think there is no chance in hell they make a patch for this. It sucks considering that we all paid money for the games but that is life.

Personally I am still having a ton of fun playing the game and intend on keeping the game and playing it for years, if I have to take 10 seconds to reset the time on my Xbox every once in a while well really it is a very small price to pay.

Re: MLB 2k12 freezing at startup screen (workaround)

Tinkering with a few things, I ran into a perfect solution I think can work for consoles, but it did the trick for me on the PC version.

I'm not sure if this will work for the console version of the game (I don't own the console version), but I'm going to try and translate these steps the best way I can for console users. I did not have any saved settings or anything like that when I made this workaround so here's what you need to do:

                    1) Roll the system date on your PC/Console back to a day that the game was able to load up to the home screen. In this case, try September 30th, 2012 (9/30/2012). This will ensure that MLB Today still works according to the game's schedules and your game will load perfectly fine with no freezing.

Now, I'm pretty sure you don't want to constantly roll back the date to September 30th just to play, so follow these instructions, step by step:

                    2) While the game is still loaded for September 30th, 2012, if you have not logged into 2K using an account, do so.

                    (Console Only)
If you have PSN/XBOX Live, start the game logged out, but make sure you log back in within the game to follow procedure number 3. This will enable you to download the latest Live Roster.

To do this, just go into the 2K menu, select Features-> 2K Share -> Download

                    (PC version only)
A dialogue box will pop up asking you to either register a new account or log in with an existing account. Log in using your 2K Sports account. A dialogue box may also appear in regards to running a benchmark for online gameplay. You can ignore this if you didn't do the benchmark/don't plan on playing online.

                    3) If it boots you back to the home screen after logging in, go back to step #2 and download the Live Roster for 10-09 or whichever roster is most recent by this post. Save it, then use the right analog stick or mouse to navigate back to the Home screen. It should start synchronizing data for MLB Today when you get back to the Home screen.

If you did the fix properly, it should reflect the current date (10-16 as of this post) with the St. Louis Cardinals/Texas Rangers facing each other.

                    4) Exit the game (go back to the XMB/Dashboard), update the PC/Console date to today's date and reload the game. It will re-download and save the latest 2K Roster, and the game will load up to the home screen again.

I think it's just a glitch with how the game syncs the MLB Today data.

No utilities, no data deletion, no extra hassle. Just a one time thing and you're set.

                    Enjoy!

On page 2 - post #12 I already provided a fix for console users (360). 9 very simple steps...

You would need to do that every time you want to play MLB 2K12. Why do that when you can just apply this fix once and be done with that issue?

The problem is when you start up your xbox live you canNOT manually change your 360's date - it's assigned to your 360 Live account. It doesn't work the way you proposed it. You have to sign in with a non-live account after you've manually changed your date. Once you do that only THEN can you log in with your Live account (by pressing your silver X star to get to your Live home and then swap accounts).

Wait, so you can't manually change the 360's date when the system is offline? Is it possible to roll back the date on the console, start the game up, reconnect the ethernet cable/wifi and log into XBL from there?

Basically what the workaround is doing is redownloading/re-syncing the MLB Today data so it reflects the current date and fixes the glitch from within the game since it won't do it on startup.

The only way to do that is to roll back the date outside of the game, start the game up, and log in to Live through there, re-download the living rosters and have the MLB Today feature update itself to the present day (10/16/2012) in-game.

No, because as soon as you log in the console will automatically go to the date fixed by xbox live. I've been trying to say this...

That's why I provided the steps I did in the post I mentioned earlier. You can create a NON-xbox live account - change the date and time of your console. Put your game in and start it up - it fools the MLB Today settings (because you're OFFLINE). BUT, when you get the game in, THEN you can log into your xbox LIVE account.

This is the only way to do this...
