Well, you do make a point here. There's actually a running gag in my local EB where we call a guy "Hilary" when he says something moronic.

Unless of course he had nothing but good things to say, in which case you'd be his biggest fan.

The person maybe giving a heads up. Has it taken a step backwards? No one knows right now, but I wouldn't discount what the person has said fully. Could be saving you $50 on yet another game that is full of bugs?

I have to say I'm honestly disappointed in the craftmanship of all the games this year. I've been playing baseball games since the early Nintendo days and EVERY year there is disappointment and false hopes. I always believe, "this is the year." The only game that has truly come through, for the most part, was High Heat, but it is gone. If offered the best baseball sim out there.

I'm playing ASB at the moment. I had to make some major baserunning tweaks, etc., and enjoying it, but still scratch my head at how many glitches and bugs get overlooked. Perhaps we expect too much from these people. I don't know.

I'm guessing that ESPN will not be the answer. It will be another game with it's own bugs and glitches. The game will be played by the fans of WSB, MVP by their fans, etc. and the arguments will continue.

However, that said, the state of video baseball, in my opinion, is not taking the giant steps forward, but little ones coupled with a step backwards. Perhaps they don't want to put out the perfect game. There'd be no reason to buy their game the following year.

I've heard nothing but bad about the first person perspective. Maybe some day the developers will put aside all the little bells and whisltes, i.e., "two on two showdown", "scenario mode", "behind the fielder cam", etc. and concentrate on the guts of the baseball game.

I sure hope so. Guess we'll have to wait another year.

I'm passing on ESPN because I've already bought MVP, MLB and ASB. I usually buy them all, but am getting a little tired of baseball bugs.

Seriously, not one review has been complimentary, and many deficiencies are clearly evident from the videos and screenies themselves.

If you've been holding out for ESPN to serve as your BB game of choice this year, it sounds as though disappointment is on your horizon.

Well it certainly couldn't be more disappointing than ASB was this year...at least for me.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

And baseball games take time to review, especially if you're gonna have to tell a bunch of hardcore fans that the game isn't what it was the year before.

                        <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Doesn't anyone find it odd that he played 70 some odd games of MVP but did not mention the many AI flaws, no lefty homeruns, or the millions of diving catches?

I've now played 67 full games in my franchise and in that time I've seen:

                        1. The CPU let its pitcher bat when tied late in the game many times.
                        2. The CPU throw to 2nd on sac bunts and everyone's safe many times.
                        3. The CPU use EVERY pitcher on its staff including starters in one game.
                        4. The CPU pitch a guy 8 innings one day and pitch 6 more the next day.
                        5. 197, 112 diving catches, about half of them made by guys that can't dive to begin with.
                        6. One homerun by a left handed hitter.

I've seen many, many more AI flaws by the CPU at various times, but I won't go into all of them.

My point being is what are reviewers looking for when they play a frigging baseball game? I mean I ALWAYS watch very closely early on with a game to make sure that it does at least the basic things right like pinch hitting, changing pitchers, etc.

Are these guys really spending a lot of time with gimmick crap like first person baseball and fielder cams instead of playing the actual game?

So they can spend 5 pages telling me about how cool the minor leagues and the homerun challenges are, but they can't tell me that the AI doesn't pinch hit when it should or if it's too easy to steal a base?

I doubt I will even sleep the next two days while a await Hilary's ESPN review.
