Re: VC close on a deal

I'm over at ESPN Videogames forums and they're so happy about VC doing this. Don't they realize this is awful? There is very little reason now to improve for both Madden and MLB 2k5. Why do you think sports games have been making such big strides the past few years? This is awful news, however, not either companies fault. EA feels they can make more money by buying out the NFL liscence. In essencs, to stay in business, VC feels it has to now buy a liscence. Don't blame the compaines. And it's much easier for the NFL and MLB this way. IMO congress should consider these a monoply, and not allow these "liscece buyouts" to continue. But who cares about videogames? Its not like it's a million-dollar industry

Here is to hope that the deal falls through. If not then at least hope that either 989 produces one for xbox(yeah right) or microsoft actually gets with it and releases a good baseball game, don't they have 3do company under their belt. I can't stand ESPN baseball it is garbage.

I heard awhile ago that some company was going after the rights to the MLB license, but I aslo heard that if this indeed happened that another company had an agrement for 3 more titles to be released, and I think that was 989 thats had that agrement.

I'd say there's a certain percent that are happy just knowing there will BE an MLB2k6 and beyond. But yes, I'm sure there are plenty of hypocrites as well....

beleive it or not, this would be good for sports gamers. if one company only gets all the licenses, then there is little reason for another developer to make games.

if each company has certain generic sports titles and a couple exclusive titles, then all can survive.

examine take two situation. the average gamer wont pick up a generic title if all take two's titles are generic. but if they like the exclusive baseball, they might be inclined to try the generic football.

yes, exclusive licenses are bad. but a worse situation would be if all were under one label. exclusives are going to happen regardless of what we think. so i am hoping for the best situation.

i want take two to get the sim NBA license, NHL and MLB. especially if first party developers can still produce titles.

take two's deal is much better for gamers than EA's in that microsoft and 989 can still make games. MLB 2006 looks to be my favorite baseball this year. it looks to me that baseball and basketball learned from the mistake of the NFL.
