Getting a bit angry at Take Two

I don't know, they are starting to seem like as much of a bad guy as EA. Really, I don't care much about football as I do baseball, so that is probably the reason I'm kinda mad at T2 right now.

They just announced that no third parties at all. So EA cannot team up with Microsoft and make a game. This is horrible for us gamers, probably like EA's deal was for football gamers.

It just makes me mad they added that little part in and crushed all my hope of seeing MVP again in the next 7 years.

I wanted to play this game and try it out, but out of spite I think I might just go with 989 only after this year.

It isn't just this announcement. It was the price raise to $40 and the announcement Derek Jeter would be on the cover. The worst cover athlete ever.

989 chose Vlad who is an excelent role model. I just like their decision making.

    Anybody agree at all?

Re: Getting a bit angry at Take Two

    1. Jets is more marketable than Vlad. I'm a Mets fan so I'm not homering. Vlad was on the cover of High Heat; I loved that game but how many copies did it sell? It's silly to think Vlad is a better cover athlete than Jeter. It's flat out homerism to think otherwise.

    2. It's business- no reason to be angry at either EA or Take-Two. One company was going to emerge with the exclusive in both sports.

    3. I feel the fact that Take-Two still allows OTHER games to be produced makes them that much better than EA, who shut out all effective competition in football. EA has prevented any competition- I value the fact that Take-Two allowed other competitors.

    4. Complain about the $40 price tag when other games charge less. It was silly to expect $20 to extend for eternity. Seriously, where did you ever think that they were going to charge $20 forever?

        3) Agreed

        4) This is exactly what I was talking about... now people feel that the value of the ESPN games are only at $20, so anything over it feels overpriced. Agreed.

i agree with everything but number 3. Do you honestly think that T2 is ALLOWING other publishers. That was likely a sacrifice they had to make in order to keep EA from publishing. And i'm guessing they had to allow it because 989 still has a 4 year contract with mlb so it would have been impossible to be totally exclusive at this point. But don't think they wouldn't have gone totally exclusive if they could have. It would have been bad business not to if they had the oppertunity.

I you read the interview, TT was smart enough to realize that an exclusive deal wasn't in their best interest. It would be bad business to attack Sony and their 989 brand. EA had no such problems with football as there were no competing products. That is a fundamental diiference between the deals. EA isn't going to make anyone mad by going exclusive on Madden. The console manufacturers actually want Madden for their consoles. VC is in a different boat, entirely. They have to tread the fine line of pushing their product and not hurting their console partners.

The best thing they could get out of the deal is to not have competition from EA and Midway. I just think that nobody is crying for Midway's plight.... Slugfest will be in the deal, too.

I just don't get why the cover athelete makes a difference. I want the best game (even if a Red Sock is on the cover - I'm a Yanks fan). And how is Jeter not a role model? You never hear him bash anyone else nor do you see him showboat or try to show someone else up. Jeter exudes class. Vlad is a class act as well, but, I disagree with your opinion that Jeter isn't. I'm not trying to flame you. If the cover althelete makes a difference for you, then go with the cover athelete you like best. It's all good.

The market this really screws over is the PC gaming people. MVP was the only title to be released on PC, and this is going to be the last year for it...

Maybe this will have Microsoft release a new Hight Heat or Inside Pitch (or a combo of the two games) for the PC. Of course, if 989 could develop MLB for the PC, I would be happy.
