Just because a new DVD drive helped your "across the board" problem doesnt mean that it has anything to do with the rest of our problems solely with the 2k series - you seem to have had a problem that was unrelated to the rest of ours and the problem with 2k freezing in and of itself just compounded the issue.

Actually, I had the exact SAME problem with MLB2K5 as everyone here. The game would freeze at random points. The fact the other games gave me fits was added for reference. But, I had a problem with MLB2K5 freezing up on my launch day Xbox, and a new drive cleared the problem. What am I to think about this? The attitude that many have here of not believing it is a hardware issue is understandable. I had the EXACT same thinking process. At any rate, this is a very, VERY old, well documented problem with the Xbox. Just Google "Dirty Disc Error" and you will see that there are many gamers having problems with many other games freezing. These are facts none of us can ignore. I just hope Microsoft quits ignoring it.

Not saying that a new DVD drive wouldn't help us - if it froze on other games, then that would be one thing - I'm just wondering why I would go through that expense to only help with the freezing on one developer's games, which is obviously a fault of the developer exposing what is perhaps otherwise a dormant "problem" in our xboxes.

WOW Mr Bee! You sound exactly like I did in another online thread. I had those very same arguments. I remember having a discussion with someone about a game freezing with the DDE, and my argument was, why am I not having problems with other games? I just would not leave my belief that this was the fault of the game. Well, soon after, I DID start to have freezing and DDE's with other games. It seemed every new game gave me a problem. The list grew.... AllstarBaseball2005, Madden, Colin Mcrae2004/2005, ESPN NFL2K4/2K5, NHL2K5, MVP2004, Project Gotham2, and more.... ALL freezing! Reluctantly, because I knew it would cost me some bucks, I finally HAD to come to the realization that what people were telling me was true. For what ever reason, my DVD drive was out of sync.

Last week I ordered a new drive. No more freezing in MLB2K5. I don't know how long this drive will last before the problems come back. But... this all appears to be a hardware issue. Something with the Xbox is causing these drives to fail on the newer games. Like it or not, this is the sad reality for a few of us in the Xbox community.

It's naive to think if you're having lockups on this game, that's as far as it goes. Lockups typically begin as the DVD drive ages, perhaps you're just now getting them with this game but you'll start getting it on others too. EA Sports games have typically been the most frequent lockups for me, I've even replaced my XBox once just because of this and my sports game addiction.

I'm sorry, but the fact that neither one of them has ever locked on any other developers games is a little strange, especially as I've seen many other people say the exact same thing. Maybe it is evidence of the start of when, as you say, "the DVD drive ages", but there is something about these games that makes them much more succeptable to lockups than other games. Maybe both of my DVD drives are starting to go at the same time, all coinciding with the release of NFL 2K5, CH2K5, and MLB2k5, even though these games comprise about 10% of my gaming time yet 100% of my lockups.

The lock-up problem also occurs with the PS2. Don't know if MLB 2K5 locks up, but NFL2K5 locks up on my PS2. It seems to occur when I try to skip through the instant replay.

My past lockup issues were much heavier on EA stuff like Madden and NCAA. I kid you not, I replaced my XBox 1.5 years ago just to get through a game of NCAA football.

IMHO once you start experiencing issues with one game it won't stop there. It is also my experience sound issues are the trigger and that cutting down on music playing seems to reduce the issue some.

If we google in quotation marks "dirty disc error", we find many people with this problem with all kinds of games. The SAME freezing problem on ALL genres in the gaming scene is too much of a coincidence to "blame the game" for. After all, not all of the people playing MLB2K5 have this freezing issue. If Kush was the problem, we would probably see around 90% of the people with the game roaring to the heavens.

This problem isn't going away, but the reason why people are not educated as to why this is happening to their Xbox, imo, is because the numbers of people affected are not large enough to open the complaint floodgates. I suppose this is why MS choses to just ignore it, and if a user complains, blame it something else, BUT, offer to fix the out of warranty unit for $90.
