    Re: HH's tweaked sliders.

I think these are my best effort, I have had some really amazing games and everything feels like baseball if you play by the house rules below, I jacked up the take ball/strike sliders for the AI, this should drive up your starters pitch counts into the upper 90's lower 100's if you get to pitch into the later innings. I was cautious about this, but watched a real game the other night and Daniel Cabrera pitched 116 pitches before being pulled in the 7th. Any feedback would be great. Just play at least one whole series before feedback and try to use the house rules as much as possible to your liking.

My House Rules for Batting: (Swing Stick)

Rule 1 - Can only use power swing when you correctly guess the batter's eye. That's the only time I allow myself to press up on the swing stick. The rest of the time it must be pull and release tactic.

Rule 2 - Must wait until the AI throws one strike in the count to swing, unless it's a meat pitch as stated above. I've had 2 so far that the CPU didn't throw down the gut on 3-0, it is rare though, then I do not swing. This works the pitcher's pitch total.

My House Rules for Pitching: (Zone 1)

Rule 1 - I now use a deck of cards to determine my every pitch. Sounds crazy, but adds various situations to the game. Ex: I have 4 pitches available in a clockwise position, (fastball, slider, change up, and curve) an ace, 5, 9, or King would culminate in a fastball, a 2, 6, 10, or Joker would culminate in the slider and so on. I know it's cheesy, but I do this now to keep me from throwing the same pitch all the time in certain situations. I also flip another card for location purposes. See chart below.

JQK (Jack, Queen, King) (only two of each in deck)
    1-2 (1,6 -- 2,7)
    345 (3,8 4,9 5,10)

Rule 2 - I do not throw any pitches that start down the middle and each pitch must begin on some point of catchers glove.

Rule 3 - only one pickoff attempt per at bat, I've actually gotten a couple with dive back at 100.

Rule 4 - Starters can go as long as they want unless either of the following occurs:

Rule 4b - 5 earned runs (not total runs) and I trail by 2 or more runs at the time my pitcher gives up the 5th earned run. If not losing by 2 or more runs, can continue until that point is reached or the following below:

Rule 4c - given up a total of 10 hits in the 5th inning or less, 9 hits with 2 guys on base in the 6th inning and and beyond. Other words, if you give up 9 hits into the 5th, you can remain in the game until you give up the 10th hit that inning or beyond, or if you are in the 6th and have given up 9 hits and 2 guys reach in any way. This will help with getting the bullpen into the game at full strength and not give up that BS inning every game with your starter getting fatigued in later innings.

Rule 4d - winning by one run, tied or losing after 7th inning

Rule 4e - winning after 8 innings and lead by 2 or 3 runs, if winning by more than 3, starter can go on until that point is reached or the game is complete.

Rule 4f - 25% stamina (pull at conclusion of at bat and must be winning by only one run, tied or losing at that time)

Rule 4g - after one of the above, I must take him out at the end of that at bat and bring in a reliever.

Rule 5 - Relievers can go a maximum of 4 innings for long relievers, 3 innings for middle, and 2 innings setups and closers, or one of the following:

Rule 5b - 3 earned runs or 5 hits for long relief pitchers, and 2 earned runs or 5 hits for middle, setups and closers.

    Rule 5c - 25% stamina

Rule 5d - after one of the above, the player must be removed at that moment and I must bring in a new pitcher. Make sure you have another pitcher warming up.

    Rule 5e - setup man/closer
automatically enters in 8th if winning by only 1 run, and setup man/closer automatically enters in 9th if winning by 3 runs or less (use who you want according to your preference because of pitching back to back games and low stamina.

My House Rules For Base Running:

Rule 1 - only one extra step lead for baserunners. Click L2 button one time after AI sets the baserunner for you. If the AI pitcher throws to the base you lead from, you lose that extra step for the remainder at bat. Use it wisely.

Rule 2 - Can steal as much as you want, until you get caught stealing, then you can not steal for the remainder of the game unless the game goes extra innings. Then rule resets beginning with 10th inning.

HH: Great work, as usual. What would you suggest changing if I wanted to lower the amount of hits that I am getting. Would I simply lower Batter Contact? How would the batter influence or step fluence fit into the equation? Thoughts?

Hey man, I suggest just lowering batter contact until you feel comfortable. Don't touch the power, as for influence, it seems the higher the influence the easier it is to hit. It's at 5 now, so I don't know, you could try 0. Finally, are you pre-loading your swings? I always wait until the AI pitcher's front leg is coming forward, then I start to pull back on the stick. That helps also with cutting down the hits. Like I said, I'm using the O's, so if you are using a high caliber offensive team, try lowering the contact until you like it. I can't go anything below 20 or I strike out 10-15 times a game. Let me know how it goes. Finally, I've finally learned zone pitching completely. It's a nice learning curve when you learn the accuracy of one circle and placement of your pitches with the other. I've managed to strike out 5+ batters in each of my last 3 games.

Thanks for the credit. I'm seeing a lot of similar changes to other sets that resemble my set. Which is cool. However, you're probably the first to actually credit your changes based on a finding of someone else, and that's very respectful. I think people get too caught up into their designs without thinking that we're all here to enjoy the game, and finding out the different ideas from others, can only make things better for everyone.

I'm interested if you're able to get the CPU out if they're stealing a base. With baserunning speed at 100 (which I'm soon to change since the consensus seems that it's the best setting) and catcher throw speed at "0", can you still get them out?

Yeah, I can still get them out as long as I use just the throwing mechanic. That other thing when you have to look through the catcher's mask is nearly impossible.

I'm getting a really good variety in hits for human, also with AI hits now that I used your Human reaction numbers. I originally had mine at 35/35, but they weren't getting any, it's amazing how much difference that slider makes. I also think if you have human contact at 0, the hits become too perfect as you have to make perfect contact with the ball, and the majority of the time, it's too perfect. Since raising it to 25, I make good contact, but not everything is hit hard and perfectly placed. Can't wait for your final set sleepy. You've made this game about as good as it can get. Before I forget, make sure others aren't pre-loading their swings, I always wait until the pitcher's leg is starting to come forward before I start my swing. This will help cut down on hits as well.

OK, here are my 6 season box scores from my sliders above. I only power swing when I guess the pitch correctly. I hit 8 homeruns on 19 correct guesses. I'm the O's.

                    Re: HH's tweaked sliders.

Final major overhaul of my sliders. I'm starting my season now. These are sleepy's 2.7 sliders with my tweaks. Enjoy

OK, I've combined sleepy's AI hitting sliders and human fielding sliders with my sliders for human hitting and AI fielding from before when 3/4 of my hits were singles. I've been having really great games with these with the majority of hits being singles as long as you use the pull and release tactic if you don't guess the pitch correctly.

Moved Human contact and Batter Influence to 30. Switched to Zone 2 for pitching. I like the axis better. You don't have to hold the analog stick.

*****My House Rules for Pitching: (Zone 2)*****

Rule 2 - I do not throw any pitches that start down the middle and the little circle must begin completely within the catcher's glove.

Here are my final tweaked sliders for the year. The majority of the credit should go to sleepy, as these are just a variation of his last set. After numerous games of testing, I feel these give me the best overall experience possible with this game. Thanks for all your feedback guys on all sets, both original and tweaked. Hope to see you all playing NCAA 08 in July.

Rule 2 - Can steal as much as you want, until you get caught stealing, then you can not steal for the remainder of the game unless the game goes extra innings. Then rule resets beginning with 10th inning.
