Re: The OS Breakdown of the 2K Slider Theory

I'm now back to too many HR's by the CPU and nothing else. Here's my last three games(I could probably post about 5 or 6 more):

    Mets(me)-6 Yankees-2

Solo shots from ARod and Posada

    Angels(me)-4 Dodgers-2

Solo shots from Loney and Martin

    Padres-4 Mets(me)-1

Solo shots from Bard (2) Gonzalez

Any ideas on what to adjust to get more variety in CPU hits? I could lower the TCP difficulty, but that would result in more meatballs, which means more homers.

One of the problems with this game is that there are too many sliders.

Does the Total Pitching Control slider have a huge impact? If I set it low, will pitching be very easy (good if you are learning how to pitch under the new system?)

It's like there is no happy medium with the offense (CPU or User)

I was raking - then I lowered Human skill and power and suddenly I can't generate any offense

It's like the CPU can only generate offense on HR's

I love this game but am feeling myself slowly get fed up with the tweaking night after night and not getting any further along.

I almost wish I owned a PS3 so i could pick up the Show

I hear ya man. Some are probably saying, "just have fun and enjoy the game". Well, take a look a look at the scores from my last three games. Not what I call fun.

I seriously think pitch speed is HUGE in this game. I played 20...yes a 20 inning game with pitch speed at 55 and it was scoreless. I dropped it to 40....game over next inning.

My next two games were 7-3 CPU and 6-5 CPU. That's all I changed.

Another thing. I don't believe in "comeback AI", I never have. But my god this game gets suspicious sometimes at the end. I've lost a ton of weird games late. My last game I'm up 5-4 with 2 outs in the 9th. I get the batter to pop one up to shallow center. My fielder is right under it. And it just drops next to him with him standing there. The batter runs to 2nd. Ok next batter lines to second where it hits my 2nd baseman's glove and it goes into foul territory. Guy scores, another man on second. Next batter I pull back on the stick and just a red blob all over the plate. Meat pitch, double, game over. It just got super wacky.

Thing is, this is about the 4th time I've seen this crazy stuff at the end. I just don't get it.

Very interesting. I wonder what it would be like at 45 or 50? What stinks is I can't hit, and if I lower pitch speed and it helps the CPU, I lose any advantage I might gain.

I've seen a few crazy things like that as well.
Then I started thinking.....are you using the "ie" for the cpu batters? because what I have begun to notice (I use it also) is when it shows you have "scouted" a particular player and the infield and/or outfield shifts...the batter will find the "hole" 9/10 times.
I have thought about not even using this to see what happens,as I don't worry about shifting my fielders...unless an obvious bunt attempt is coming.

Re: The OS Breakdown of the 2K Slider Theory

I think I've found some slider adjustments for the CPU that work a bit better. The skill/power/contact for the CPU at 25/40/50 was causing too many hard hit balls for the computer. 10/40/50 had more of a strikeout or base hit type deal. Still too many hard hit balls on this setting. The bottom line is unless you're an expert pitcher, the computer is probably going to go bombs away more often then not if their power is anything 40 or above. Seems to be the same situation if their skill is too high (75 or above seems to be the threshhold here). Contact seems to have the least amount of effect of the 3, as skill can override it.

I put skill/power/contact at 50/25/30 and had my best game to date. I was the Phillies hosting the Giants:

                  SF - 3 9 2
                  Phi - 4 10 2

Hamels vs. Cain, game went 12 innings. Molina hit a homer with 2 outs in the top of the 9th to put them up 2-1. Then Ryan Howard hit a homer with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it. They strung together a few hits in the top of the 12th to take the lead 3-2. Howard singles then Burrell doubles to start the bottom. Next hitter hits a sac fly, Howard runs over the catcher and dislodges the ball, tie game. Then a little dribbler to 2nd scores Burrell from 3rd, game over.

Both teams had 1 homer, a few doubles, and the rest singles. Both teams made outs via lazy fly balls and routine grounders. Before, every computer out was a strike out or a rocket hit at someone. This game, the computer only struck out 9 times in 12 innings. I can't remember if my pitch speed was at 50 or 60. Either way, the most I'll move computer power up to is 30 at this point. If pitching is coming too easy, I'll make slight adjustments to TCP, AI contact, or AI Skill.

You will probably have to adjust human hitting sliders like me because it is harder to hit using classic batting. Everything else works great for me, except I have lowered Total Control Pitcing to 50 which helps avoid meatballs, but I still walk people, and pitch speed is at 50 because I agree with Jistic that it affects offense for some unknown reason.

I don't use IE. Very odd stuff though.

The thing is, if you can't hit, lowering the pitch speed will help BOTH you and the CPU hit.

                          Hey Joe...

Played a game last night with your updated sliders

                          Tigers 4-8-0
                          Royal 3-7-0

                          Tigers 8H, 1 Double, 2 HR
                          Royals 7H, 1 HR

Tigers 4BB/10 K's(some of which were because of impatiency)
                          Royals 6 K's(4 swinging-2 looking)
Game flowed well...Verlander was on fire until he gave up a shot in the 6th. Hits were well dispersed from screamers up the middle to a couple of long balls. The new pitching settings I am going to have to get use to as I lowered both of them a little, but like usual good job!

Hey, Joe. I played a game last night as well. I love the sliders. I don't remember the exact stats, but I took the Twins to extra innings with the Royals. I know each team had 9 strikeouts and 4 walks in 11 innings. I was doing great, and was up 2-1 in the top of the 9th, until I allowed Joe Mauer (I think it was him) to hit the tying homerun.

Only sliders I lowered were AI pitcher fatigue, and Total control pitching for the user.

Good sliders, love this game this year, and love how it playes out-of-the-box.

Great sliders. I've changed a few things to fit my tastes. But very well done. I've had a variety of gemes with high scores, pitching duels etc.

My only beef is diving catches by the AI in the outfield NEVER seem to miss. I see a drop here or there by the infield. BUT NEVER have I seen an unsucessful diving attempt in the outfield by the AI.
