Apparently. Explain to me how the ball hit the dirt & didn't kick up any dust?

what is the official ruling of a strikeout that hits the ground? if the ball hits the dirt but bounces cleanly into the catchers glove is there a need for a tag? i thought the tag was necessary only if the catcher drops the ball or didn't catch it cleanly.

Explain to me why you can't look at the replay and see for yourself?

Wrong. If it even touches the ground then it is a drop third strike.

What replay showed it hit the dirt? Where have they shown it? I want to see it. I want to know how a ball can hit the dirt & the dirt be undisturbed.

You aren't gonna see a cloud of dirt man, the ball scrapped against the ground right before it entered Paul's glove, similar to trapping a ball. They said on blown-up replays they could notice a change in direction of the ball, meaning it did hit the ground.

i said in the angels/whitesox thread.. the ground was pretty packed, and looked moist. so no dust would fly up if the ball hit the dirt.

The play is so close, though. That's what suprised me about the play. I mean, to me it's proof that all the rules in the world and in ANY game can't and won't accurately officiate a realistic outcome all the time. It's kind of one of those fate kind of things, where it's VERY difficult to officially call either way, and it always will seem as if maybe it was caught and maybe it wasn't. In the end it will just be up to the fans to decide. Whoever wants to believe whatever will believe whatever they believe. I personally believe that the ball hit the dirt and made a small bounce into the glove.

What is so sensational about this all is that Crede hit the ball so hard right afterwards. This kind of "too close to call" play happens more often than most would think in Baseball, but they are always forgotten and forgiven because a couple of innings usually tend to go by before anything happens, so nobody has anything to blame on ANYTHING. But this one...it's the ALCS, it's the 9th inning, Crede nearly hits a home run after the call....

No doubt this will be argued and talked about for years to come.

I havent seen the replay that shows the ball hitting the ground first.

How packed is it? Like bricks? If its moist its muddy. More likely to cause a splash.

When I wake up in the morning, I'm taking my baseball & doing some experiments. I'm going to see how this is @ all possible.

well since it was a night game the dirt wasnt as dry. i think you took my statement to extremes.. and im not even sure if that was the real reason as i dont play baseball so i dont really know the playing field like id know a hardwood floor.

Even if the call was wrong, which the umpires confirmed the ball DID hit the ground in a press conference after reviewing the replays, it shouldn't matter because we still earned a win considering Joe Crede came to the plate and capitalized on a mistake. No matter whos mistake it was...
A ground ball past Jenks up the middle of the infield, Uribe has it, he throws... Out! Out! A White Sox winner and a World Championship! The White Sox have won the World Series!

I am a Sox fan, so I won't even speculate on if the ball actually hit the ground or not, I don't want to deal with the inevitable flak.

BUT, saying that the Angels lost the game because of this is hilarious. It's akin to saying that a 3rd quarter turnover or missed shot decides a game in basketball. The game was TIED, so if AJ was out, it has no direct bearing on whether the White Sox OR Angels ultimately win. It was just sequential. The only way I would agree is if the Angels were up by one and the home run puts the sox up and over for 2.
