yeah...but can Kearns be an everyday CF? I don't think so.

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
As long as the Red Sox don't give in by including another top prospect like Delcarmen I'll be satisfied as a Sox fan. I've already said I'm not sold on the future of Delcarmen, but it is a matter of pride and principle to not include him in the deal as is because, as good as Crisp is/could be, he's not worth three top 10 prospects plus more.Comment

I'd ratehr have Crisp than Marte.
Would I have preferred to find a deal that didn't involve getting rid of Marte? Absolutely but we have no idea what/if those deals were available. Obviously Michaels was available but he is not a realistic long term option.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
I'd risk it for Marte. There's debate on Crisp's full-time transition to center as well, although it hardly concerns me except for his arm. As far as Kearns, he's got enough speed to atleast get by and is probably a bargain even in this market because of his down year. With Bronson resigned, a Clement and parts for Kearns deal has virtually no risk.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
Originally posted by camulosNo he can't and we don't even know if he's available or what his asking price would be. The Clement/Kearns talk was 3 weeks ago and never seemed to pick up life even after O'Brien was fired.
I'll accept Coco Crisp from day one because he IS the best replacement for Johnny Damon right now. I just don't understand why the process was so hard, and my frustration is in hearing about better alternatives and not knowing why we couldn't get it done. Guess it's all heresay...Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
Crisp was the full-time centerfielder until Sizemore was called up so I don't have any concerns about his ability to play center. The only things that concern me are A.) the amount of pressure Crisp may feel because of how absurd these trade talks have been might get to him and B.) how he is as a lead-off hitter. He probably won't be as good a lead-off hitter as Damon, even if he puts up a higher OPS. Damon was great at taking until he had two strikes and then getting on base and that's a rare talent. Though, I'd rather have Crisp than Damon.Comment

Originally posted by CWood2Sure, it's outdated, but if a Westbrook for Kearns deal is in the works, it's easy to approximate what it would take assuming we'd pay part of Matt's salary.

Originally posted by camulosI think your man crush on Marte is making you a little biased about this trade.
Seriously though, I agree with you that part of the reason why it's tough on us (the fans who care) is that there's so much misinformation...especially when the Sox try to make a big trade that takes time...see ARod and Magglio. And you are right about our strategy on position prospects, but I want guys like Pedroia and others to be able to step in and do what the young pitchers can do...which is help this team win. Coco Crisp will do that, so when this happens, I'll move on with that sentiment.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
I think the Red Sox need to work on keeping things in house. Too often trade information is leaked prematurely with this team though I get the impression it is intentional at least half of the time. Sometimes their business practices embarass me as a fan.Comment

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp
I'm just glad it seems to be over now. I'm honestly tired of even talking about this subject.
Obviously, I didn't like losing Marte, but we need Crisp, badly. Let's move on to SS and start the g-damn season already.Comment
