    RP-Guillermo Mota

    Boston gets from Cleveland:

    CF/LF-Coco Crisp

Re: Coco Crisp is OFFICIALLY Traded to Boston...

The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper and radio station WEEI-AM in Boston are both reporting it as a done deal.

Yeah, I believe there's a PTBNL going to the Tribe. We'll see who it ends up being.

Looks like a good trade for both teams too me.

I'm still not convinced Crisp will be our leadoff hitter this year. He needs to learn to walk more and see more pitches. Obviously this is something can be taught, Johnny Damon is a prime example. Crisp actually compares very favorably to Damon over their first two full years:

                Crisp:
                2004 - .344 OBP, 36 BB, 3.72 P/PA
                2005 - .345 OBP, 45 BB, 3.48 P/PA

                Damon:
                1996 - .313 OBP, 31 BB, 3.55 P/PA
                1997 - .338 OBP, 42 BB, 3.69 P/PA

You also have to remember that Damon's patience, especially P/PA didn't really increase until he left KC for Oakland and Boston. This is not a coincidence.

Re: Boston to trade Marte and Mota for Crisp

I think he'll be the lead-off man by default. Obviously, Youkilis would be the best choice if you want to look at OBP but he doesn't have the speed or the intangibles of a lead-off man. Crisp is really the only guy in the lineup who can run which I expect will make him the lead-off guy.

                    Re: Coco Crisp to Boston....

In 32 more Plate Appearences Damon only walked 9 more times than Crisp last season. Crisp has a .271 career AVG as a leadoff hitter, while not great, he can at least get the job done enough, and right now thats all they can ask for.
