    It's funny because it's true.

The section on documentation might be more interesting than the actual article.

This narrative is based on more than a thousand pages of documents and interviews with more than 200 people, many of whom we spoke to repeatedly.

What a good guy and good family man:

In addition to detailing the drug usage, the excerpt portrays Bonds as a menacing boor, a tax cheat and an adulterer given to (probably because of the rampant steroid use) sexual dysfunction, hair loss and wild mood swings that included periods of rage. The authors report that Bonds gave Bell, with whom he continued his affair after his second marriage in January 1998, $80,000 in cash in 2001 from memorabilia income not reported to the IRS. Theirs was a volatile relationship. Bell retained answering machine recordings of him after he threatened to kill her, remarking that if she disappeared no one would be able to prove he even knew her.

In 2003, as their relationship completely unraveled, Bell angered Bonds by showing up late for a hotel rendezvous. According to the excerpt, Bonds put his hand around her throat, pressed her against a wall and whispered, "If you ever [edit] pull some [edit] like that again I'll kill you, do you understand me?"

A few weeks later, the authors write, Bonds told Bell, "You need to disappear."

What makes me laugh is the a-holes like Jim Rome that kissed his *** up until the BALCO trial. Then all of a sudden it's "I can't believe he's on roids! His records should be erased!"

You could have scored a 2 on the Wonderlic and still figured out that Barry was on roids. I hate hypocrites like Rome and the other sports writers.

I'm glad this book is getting released and I hope that in the end Bonds', Big Mac's and Sossa's HR's are all taken off the record books.

I saw an interview with a SF Chronicle writer about the book. I don't know how Bonds can escape this now. No way can his defenders defend a man that took every damn performing enhancer on the face of the planet.

This was such an utterly stupid decision on Bonds' part. Hell, prior to 98 he was easily on his way to the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest players to every play the game... then this?!?!?!

All because he's not getting enough love from the media and fans?!?!?!?

What an ***. If Bud Selig had any stones he would temporarily suspend Bonds pending an investigation into these claims. Of course he will do nothing...

Oh boy, I just laugh at this stuff now, the records won't be stricken from the books, because Bonds has never tested positive, plain and simple. And besides, does this really sway anyone's opinion? Most of the people here say they knew it from the beginning anyway, so it's really redundant, guess we'll just put him up next to the plethora of "documented" cheaters in the HoF.

Eh, there's only been one sure fire cheater in HOF and that's Gaylord Perry.

Ya that part of the article was great. I always suspected he was jealous of the Great Steroid Race of 1998 between the Big Needle and Corkaroids. Look at the photo gallery. His 1998 picture compared to the 73 homer year is comical. My only hope is that the Giants fans have some balls and they boo this cheater.

For Selig to suspend Bonds wouldn't really be fair for a number of reasons: this was all in the past and it doesnt make sense to suspend someone in 2006 for what they did in 1999, there are clearly other players who have used steroids and to single Bonds out would be only because he (a) is a very good and very well known player and (b) a third-party investigation, and because Selig doesnt have the authority to suspend players at his whim; to be suspended for using steroids I'm pretty sure you have to test positive for them.

I shuddered while reading it, it's scary to imagine someone putting so much of that thing in to their body.

The whole thing has been Bonds' attitude... The media will make him pay dearly now, for his continually surly attitude toward them... Like SPTO mentioned, Gaylord Perry is in the HOF, but his whole country farm boy from North Carolina attitude helped him avoid any real repercussions from his actions... Bonds is universally perceived as an a-hole, so guess what, Barry... Now when you need us, we can be the ones to tell YOU to go screw yourself.

That would be great! Not only does he have to struggle with mail erectile disfunction and hair loss but his own home town booing the roids out of him.

If he ever does break Hank Aaron's record I hope that whichever park he does it in, the fans turn their backs on the record breaking homer. He can jog the bases in complete silence with nobody watching.

Bonds' hole just keeps getting dug deeper and deeper every few months. And, sure, anyone who wishes to use common sense about this whole thing has already drawn their own conclusions that he was a steroid user -- but this book blows everything completely wide-open. Once and for all, there is finally solid, documented evidence of what Bonds was taking day-by-day and the effects it was having on his body. This book finally puts an end to all the he-said-she-said hoopla and brings forth legit unsealed court documents which prove that Bonds was, in fact, what we all have come to believe he was -- a steroid user of mass proprotions.

I really want to hear what the jaded Giants fans have to say now that these latest revelations have come to light. It will surely be quite comedic, I'm sure, to hear someone like Blazr now try and profess the greatness of Bonds since it is all-but written in stone that he has been using performance enhancers since the '98 offseason.
