I totally agree, I think they have a great team, and Shelton will anchor some of the offensive load. 17 HR's in one week is a wonderful achievement.

LOL. I remember debating this with someone in the MVP forum last year.

They kept saying that they wanted to raise Brian Roberts' power into the high 80's because he hit so many HR's early on. I kept saying "No, just wait. It'll drop back down.".

With that said, Shelton is a different hitter. I think he's got 30 HR potential, but his MLB sample size is just too small to really make a solid prediction.

        2004, Henry Blanco started the year 9 for 14, 4 walks, 3 HR's and 3 doubles. He ended up hitting .206 with 10 HR's.

Just saying, it happens every season.
And for Tigers fans.... In 2005, Dmitri Young had three HRs on opening day.

But with that said, I think Shelton will be pretty solid. Why not? The guy is about to turn 26, so its not like he is some super young prospect, and he showed good numbers last year. This season, if he and the rest of the team can stay healthy, he will have an even better supporting cast to help him at the plate. I think your prediction of .280, 22, and 80, is rather low, (barring injury). I mean, lets say he plays 150 games, if he were to play from this day forth like he had last year, he would end up with, around .305 AVG, 30 HRs, 90 RBIs.

And you say you can find that anywhere? Five players did that in 2005. Pujols, Lee, Ortiz, Tex, and Delgado.

Yeah, but a lot were around the numbers. I know Broussard hit like .250 last year, but the year before he was around the same numbers. Same with other 1st basemen. It's just not a stat that blows you away.

I think Shelton has a great swing and will be a great 1st basemen, I just think a lot are epxecting his numbers to stay up, all I was trying to say was this happens every season.

Shelton killed me week 1. H2H league. I expect a .260/19/65 year from him. That's just me though.

No he's right. It's a known fact that 1B's are usually the best power hitters on a team and 22 HR's is below average for a everyday 1B. A .280 average is mediocre also. But Shelton plays solid defense and his OBP should be around .360, which is solid. That's why he'll be starter for a long time. I think eventually Shelton will hit .285 with 30HR's (a solid season for a 1B) but i dont think he does it this year.

                    Re: Chris Shelton

This guy IMO is one of those typical role players who'll start off hot at the beginning of the season and fade off after two months. I predict a .297 batting average with 18 home runs, 29 doubles and 78 driven in. I forgot who it was two or three years ago, might be Austin Kearns, but he started the season with 9 home runs through 18 games.

Ok seriously it's nice to see someone lighting up the scoreboard for the Tigers. I'm pretty sure if he continues like this all season long that he'll be a cult hero in Motown.

Hey, he is bringing some excitement to Detroit Tigers baseball. We all know that reality is going to come in, it is right now as the ChiSox put up a 6 spot in the 3rd. I think Shelton will hit around .290, 25 HR, 90 RBI, he'll get plenty of at bats. I was able to see him hit his first major league home run on my bday at comerica. I think if the team stays healthy we'll finish 3rd in the division and maybe hit 85 wins.

Something like this happens every year. Wasnt it Brian Roberts that started out really hot last year?

Last season, Roberts put up better numbers than any second baseman in the majors.
