Re: Deadspin.com: Pujols using HGH?
For what?Originally posted by elicolemanESPNews just reported that Grimsley will be suspended for 50 games.
I'm being serious when I ask as he didn't test positive, did he? Maybe I missed something, but I didn't think he actually tested positive. Admitting is one thing, but I thought they'd need a positive test as well.
And if he did test positive, wouldn't this be the 1st time and not the 2nd? To the best of my knowledge a 50 game suspension is for the 2nd positive test.

But Grimsley, 38, could be suspended by MLB after admitting to federal investigators that he used performance-enhancing drugs. Agents caught him receiving two HGH "kits" at his Valley rental home on April 19, and interrogated him for more than two hours, when he is alleged to have named current and former major leaguers, and others, involved in use and distribution of HGH and steroids.
If Grimsley is suspended, it likely would be for the first-time offense of 50 games. It would be a precedent-setting move, for baseball would be disciplining a player who has not tested positive for banned substances.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Hmmm..... I always thought a 1st time offender was suspended for 10 games.Originally posted by elicolemanThis is a snippet from an article from two days ago...

I'm also surprised that they'd suspend a guy who didn't test positive. Grimsley could easily say those kits were for another person (as I believe he was distributing to others).
Not that it matters though. I don't think Grimsley had any intentions of coming back to play after he ratted on other players.Comment

It was, before they realized their punishments were pathetically weak (and being pressured by Congress).Originally posted by joebooHmmm..... I always thought a 1st time offender was suspended for 10 games.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

He could, but there is still the repeated admissions to having used performance-enhancing drugs that were in the affidavit.Originally posted by joebooI'm also surprised that they'd suspend a guy who didn't test positive. Then I guess my next question is - why was Bond's never suspended? I don't think Giambi was either?Originally posted by BGarrett7He could, but there is still the repeated admissions to having used performance-enhancing drugs that were in the affidavit.
All of them stated they used, but none tested positive.....as far as I know.

I'm sure Grimsley's punishment is somewhere along the lines of this. Wasn't he being linked to distribution? You also have to take into account that he is under investigation for breaking Federal laws. Baseball could deem it in their best interests to suspend him for that alone.E. Participation in the Sale or Distribution of a Prohibited Substance
A Player who participates in the sale or distribution of a Prohibited Substance shall be subject to the following discipline:
1. For a first offense: at least a 60-day, but no more than a 90-day, suspension and up to a $100,000 fine;
2. For a second offense: a two-year suspension; and
3. Any subsequesnt offense by a Player shall result in the Commissioner imposing further discipline on the Player. The level of the discipline will be determined consistent with the concept of progressive discipline.Comment

Re: Deadspin.com: Pujols using HGH?
After reading all of the Grimsley story he was suspended for the admitted use. Apparently they toughened that part up a bit prior to this season. Bonds, Giambi, and the rest admitted to a Grand Jury (which is totally inadmissable to this right now anyway) prior to baseball adding that stipulation.Originally posted by joebooThen I guess my next question is - why was Bond's never suspended? Re: Deadspin.com: Pujols using HGH?
its because you cannot get someone with the smoking gun. You have to find the body. What I mean is you could literally go into the police station and tell them you killed someone. If they cant find the body and there is no report of someone dead and you cant give any details on who you actually killed there is little the cops can do to you outside of hold you 48 hours for questioning and maybe monitor you indefinately. Now if there was reports of a dead 60 year old woman with a purple hat and green sneakers and her body was found in the Ohio river..and you told the cops thats the woman you killed and you described her, etc..then yeah..they will lock you up. But admitting to something without the physical evidence that someone was actually killed at all isnt going to get you put in jail.Originally posted by joebooThen I guess my next question is - why was Bond's never suspended? Players admitting to taking them will bring no punishment on them. If youre clean now but say you took some a year ago and they test you right now and youre clean there is very little they can do. In this case, your admittance is not enough evidence to convict you in baseball. Even though you said you did in the past, they have to have something actually tangible to take it further ie, a you failing a drug test.__________________________________________________ ____

Re: Deadspin.com: Pujols using HGH?
I understand that, but Grimsely was suspended for 50 games for admitting to it. To the best of my knowledge, he never "physically" failed a drug test.Originally posted by blackceasarPlayers admitting to taking them will bring no punishment on them.
