Re: Top 25 Players in the MLB

    1. Albert Pujols (Consensus Pick)
    2. Ryan Howard
    3. David Ortiz
    4. Johan Santana
    5. Alfonso Soriano
    6. Travis Hafner
    7. Manny Ramirez
    8. Roy Halladay
    9. Chris Carpenter
    10. Alex Rodriguez
    11. Justin Morneau
    12. Miguel Cabrera
    13. Pedro Martinez
    14. Chase Utley
    15. Jose Reyes
    16. Carl Crawford
    17. Roy Oswalt
    18. Vernon Wells
    19. Andruw Jones
    20. Derek Jeter
    21. Jason Bay
    22. Vladimir Guerrero
    23. David Wright
    24. Lance Berkman
    25. Ichiro

    26. Grady Sizemore
    27. Mariano Rivera
    28. Brandon Webb
    29. Joe Mauer
    30. Trevor Hoffman

Jake Peavy should not be in the top 25. He needs to put together a nice record, rank among top 10 for starters in WHIP, K's, and ERA all in the SAME season.

I agree that Santana is the cat's meow, but after the last 2 seasons that Carpenter had, if I had to choose between these two players, I couldn't pass up on Chris.

He just missed my list (#27). As did Dontrelle Willis (#29).

Carpenter had 2 great seasons, Santana has 2 even better seasons. Also, let's not forget Santana pitches in the AL which is obviously a bit harder. IMO, Santana is #1 on any Top 25, with both position players and pitchers. He is THAT GOOD.

Better than Pujols? I don't know about that.

The AL appears to be harder, but we can't say anything now since the NL just claimed the world series. After seeing Pujols amazing diving play also, it just further annoints him as the greatest in the game today. So many players are great hitters but so-so fielders... not Pujols!

Santana is better than Carpenter, but I don't know. In those big games, you could count on Chris to get the job done. Santana lossed a couple big games this season.

You gotta have Jason Bay on any top 25 list.

I still don't get why there is no love for Cabrera in these lists. A guy that's 23, had a .339 AVG and .430 OBP last year, three straight 100 RBI seasons in a huge pitchers park with weak support, fifth youngest to have 100 in a season (Kaline, Ted Williams, Ott, Cobb), top 5 VORP, and plays a real position.

Every actual baseball site/forum I've been has threads on whether you would want him or Pujols if you had first pick in an entire redraft.

I'm not seeing many Jason Bay or Michael Young entries. That's a shame.

Jason Bay just missed my list as well ... #28 he would have been... Michael Young ... he'd be around the 40's if I did that many. He's a good hitter, but in my mind, he's nothing that special yet.

"At this point in time, who would I rather have on my roster?"

Isn't that the question we're answering? Its kinda tough making a flat out top 25 list due to positions and such, but seeing Frank Thomas on one of these lists is just laughable. A lot of 1B/DH put up big numbers, but that doesn't make them a better or more valuable player at all then say a 2B who can get you 25 HR and 100 RBI.

Im making this list as if it were a 25 man roster.

I gotcha. I wasn't necessarily under the impression that you had to have one person at every position, or even be making a roster. I just thought we were ranking people as "best available". For example, if you were ranking these players to be drafted, how would the standings go, regardless of position.

I forgot about Bay. Although, I don't think he would be in my Top 25, maybe somewhere 30-35. He has talent and potential, but isn't on the superstar plateau quite yet. I really like him though, a couple years ago I watched him a lot when he played for the Portland Beavers, which is the Padres AAA club, met him a couple times, and I root for him to do good. So far, he has had a consistent career.

Jason Bay deserves huge considerations as a top 25 player:

He's only missed 3 games the past two years, he's put up consecutive 100 rbi's and 30 home run seasons and he is still improving.
