Hey, let's get a round of applause for rigid empirical analysis.

There is no legitimate reason for putting Carlos Delgado and Justin Morneau on your list over Derrek Lee.

This is an interesting thread, however, it needs to be more specific. Here's my quick and dirty top ten, because I don't have time to sit around for 25.

    1. Johan Santana
    2. Albert Pujols
    3. David Ortiz
    4. Carlos Beltran
    5. Roy Halladay
    6. Ryan Howard
    7. Derek Jeter
    8. Miguel Cabrera
    9. Chris Carpenter
    10. Melky Cabrera

Melky Cabrera? So much for your list.

..Meant to be a joke. I couldn't think of anybody else who deserved to make the cut over another player.

Ultimately, this is a fine list. Tejada should be replaced with Chris Capuano, but it's hard to create a top 25. Are you going to measure World Series rings, OBP, runs, fielding %, vorp, etc?

Whoa there, buckaroo. Derek Lee is a great player, but Ryan Howard may just win MVP in a few weeks. I say that puts him in the same league or better than Lee. It's your opinion, though....

I didn't base it off anything. I did it on what I've seen, watched, or heard about. I just realized I left Ichiro off, but I don't know where'd I put him.

Derrek Lee has had only one season with over 100 RBIs, one season over .285 AVG, one season over .380 OBP, hasnt walked over 100 times in a season, and has just one season over a measly .900 OPS, which isn't much for a first baseman. One fluke offensive year in the Friendly Confines seems to be getting to some peoples' heads.

Oh yeah, hes been in the league 10 years now.

Bingo... I love Derrek Lee... but this statement is on the money. What did he do this year? He got injured. So we can't really tell what he's made of yet. Maybe next year he'll make my list. He shouldn't get everyone in a hizzy though, since he's not on this year's list. The Miguel Cabrera arguments are much more valid.

D-Lee is a Gold Glove defender and Howard is not. Lee will put up great offensive numbers when healthy and has a better glove. That's why I rate him over Howard.

I really wish I could find his home/road splits from 2005 because he hit just as well, if not better on the road that year. Also, Wrigley is a pitchers' park for most of April because of the cold weather and I remember 2005 being particularly cold in April. So that's a whole month of the season when it didn't matter he was at Wrigley.

Yeah, lets replace the best offensive shortstop, and arguably the best overall shortstop in the game with Chris Capuano. No disrespect to Capuano, but he's not an elite pitcher.

I think the reason you rate him higher has more to do with the fact that you live in Illinois.
