I wouldn't either. But if Meche is getting 11 mil per season and Lilly is getting 12 (?) per season...good luck signing any high caliber pitcher.

relax bk. all ny fans are rabid about their team, and in that way, the world DOES revolve around their team.

          It really doesn't.

It's just like when Vlad chose Anaheim over the Yankees, and all of the Yankees fans swore up and down, the Yankees didn't really want him.

The thought that every player wants to play in NY, is ridiculous.

every? no, i agree. a lot? probably. it's just the nature of the beast. both ny teams can afford to give tons of money, and many, if not most, players in the majors are lured away by money. you think meche would sign with KC if not offered that ridiculous contract? and it's a known fact that my team (the O's) will have to overpay pretty much to sign anyone.

i'll admit, that given similar contract offers between sf and ny, zito probably would've ended up in the west coast. but to think that zito didn't even entertain the thought of moving east is ludicrous considering the amount of money that the mets were probably willing to offer.

Not only in NY, but definetely for the Yankees.

And duh, Yankees didn't salivate over Vlad. The back was the major issue..

What are you going to refute that fact? It's was a common issue with anybody signing Vlad during that offseason.

Yeah ok. I Am sure Cashman would like everyone to believe that.

Oh well, the Angels who have had the Yankees number anyway, ended up with a guy that completely eats up Yankee pitching. Could have been worse.

Well the fact that he had a back injury when he was an Expo definately scared off some teams, that in fact is true.

LOL, and everyone else is the follower.

                            Classic.

BTW, smart move by the Yanks.

For the Angels Vlads averaged about 150 games per year, hit about .323 averaged 35 homers, and about 115 RBI's and 15 SB's per year.

The back problem excuse seems to be well founded.

If you believe the Yankees had no intention of signing him, I have a bridge to sell you. It does make Yankee fans feel better though since he preferred Anaheim.
