Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
The stage is set for the lowest high temperatures ever recorded for the month of April in some parts of the eastern third North America. Many record low temperatures for April are likely tonight in many locations. This is a weather event you will probably only see maybe once in 50 to 100 years.Comment

Oh, crap, I'm an uninformed sports fan who knows nothing about the Mariners.
Whoops.
Oh, and on this topic, the game never should have been played. It was a joke how it ended, but it was a joke that it even started.Comment

Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
Yup, and Felix Hernandez sucks, Beltre is an "error machine" (....huh? 15 errors in 06'...his 3 errors had nothing to do with the snow I'm sure), Sasaki is terrible, Griffey gets injured every game, and A-rod hole is stupid, not to mention Randy Johnson is ugly! THYE USIck!

Back on topic, I'll be shocked if they play tomorrow, we've been having a blizzard for about 7 hours straight now, have about 8 inches outside.Comment

Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
They want to try and play 2 games tomorrow. If they can't, the Indians and Mariners may wind up spending every off day they have trying to make up these games.
This is one of the drawbacks of the unbalanced schedule. This is the Mariners only trip to Cleveland this year so they can't make up the games on their next visit.
I kind of miss the old schedule.Comment

Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
The fact of the matter is, you're just not a very good team. Oakland and the Angels will finish ahead of you, probably the Rangers as well. A-Rod, Griffey and Johnson don't play for the Mariners do they? So there's no reason to bring them up.
Until the M's prove it, it'll be mine and a lot of other people's perspective on the team.

If you couldn't connect the dots on that one, I'm basically saying that you're way off base, there, buddy.
You're using old information from the past few seasons to judge an entirely different team -- "You're in the wrong state -- get yourself a new map."
The M's won their opening series against the A's...the A's have great pitching, but they rely almost entirely on Piazza and Chavez for their run production...yet they are supposed to beat a team that has Jose Guillen (20 homers), Adrian Beltre (20 homers), Kenji Johjima (20 homers)Richie Sexson (30 homers), and Raul Ibanez (30 homers)? Especially when said team has a full rotation with a guy like Baek in the minors to take over in case of any problems -- a guy who could easily be a #4 or 5 starter on any team in the majors? Honestly, the only team I'm remotely worried about in this division this year is the Angels -- and their two best starters are injured...so I'm not that worried...Comment

And what happens if the Felix and Washburn go down just as the Angels had their 2 best go down? The M's have a rotation of Batista, Weaver, Ramirez, Baek, and Woods. YUCK. Baek is awful and I feel sorry for anybody where he's a #4. Don't let his ERA from last year fool you, once teams get some scouting on him he's ready to pitch batting practice.
Again, the M's can win the west, but they're a long ways from being a good team. Thanks Bill Bavasi.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
The M's are definitely good enough to contend for the AL West (and easily good enough to take a series from Cleveland), but this season that's essentially a battle in a bad division. The M's are a slightly above average team full of guys with injury history. Batista, Ramirez, Sexson, Vidro, Guillen, and Rietsma have all had serious or recurring injuries in recent years. The M's bench is AWFUL...if those injuries come back up get ready for the cellar as Willy Wiffle Bat Bloomquist and Jason Ellison are starters.

I think Baek is ready to be a major leaguer, and he has the stuff to win games.
I think Willie's excellent performance in spring training shows that he's got a little spunk in him -- we mostly keep him around because he's a great guy to have for pinch running/defense, but I think he could be the next Carlos Guillen in a manner of speaking.
As for Felix and Washburn going down? Not too likely, and that would pretty much be game over for the M's -- but so would almost any team out there if they lost their ace. Cards without Carp? Twins without Santana? A's without Harden? Think about it. I know it's hard to think positive about our M's, but even thinking of losing felix is a bit too negative for me -- I'd just say we lose the West without Felix. However -- if Batista, Ramirez, or Weaver went down? Baek as a replacement? Not that bad.
I just don't think the M's bench is as bad as you think it is. It's definitely not the mirror image of the starting lineup, but it's not quite the antithesis either.Comment

Re: Snow at game in Cleveland!! CRAZY
No, I'm ignoring you, because I don't feel the need to flip out over a simple thread about a team that WILL NOT compete this year.
As for your "points" You won a series... want a cookie?
As for Baek... you mean the one who's career record is 6-5 with a 4.55 era in 11 starts? What exactly screams I'm a star out of those numbers? If you want to argue because you're a Mariners fan, and you're defending your team, that's fine; but don't come in here saying YOUR opinion is gospel when the facts clearly don't back it up.
And if Baek was so good, as you claim, why couldn't he crack a rotation that looks like this???
Last year numbers...
Felix Hernadez 12-14 4.52 ERA
Jarrod Washburn 8-14 4.67 ERA
Miguel Batista 11-8 4.58 ERA
Horacio Ramirez 5-5 4.48 ERA
Jeff Weaver LAA 3-10 6.29 STL 5-4 5.18 ERA
Geeze man, a 44-55 combined record with a combined ERA of 4.79??? You call that a strong staff? That's a joke man, quite frankly, it's freaking awful.
So why stop there... here's their bullpen
Julio Mateo 9-4 4.19 ERA
J.J. Putz 4-1 2.30 ERA 36 Saves
Chris Reitsma 1-2 8.67 ERA 8 Saves 27 games
Arthur Rhodes 0-5 5.32 ERA
George Sherrill 2-4 4.28 ERA
Sean White... NEVER PITCHED A PRO GAME BEFORE THIS YEAR
Brandon Morrow... NEVER PITCHED A PRO GAME BEFORE THIS YEAR
And for those scoring at home, that's a record of 16-16 with a ERA of 4.95...
Sooo, add that all up and we get a pitching staff with a combined record of 60-71 with an ERA of 4.871 which going by stats from last year would put them as the 27th worst pitching staff in all of baseball, beating out only Tampa, Washington, Baltimore, and KC...
Now of course you might say that was last year, and you're right, but I think I'll take my stats over a 162 game period rather than your scientific analysis of 3 games to start the 2007 season.
Of course I'm not done tearing apart the Mariners, oh no, lets look at the new guys brought in on Offense...
Jose Guillen- .216 AVG 9 HR's 40 RBI's... coming off Tommy John Surgery
Jose Vidro- Missed last two years due to injury
Jason Ellison .222 AVG 2 HR's 4 RBI's in 84 games
Jamie Burke- Didn't even make the majors last year...
Well that's certainly a huge upgrade to the O with those 4 players don't you think? I mean I guess they have to help after you guys finished
AL Rankings last year
10 out of 14 in AVG
13 out of 14 in runs
10 out 14 in HR's
13 out of 14 in RBI's
13 out of 14 in OBP
Finally just for my own personal satisfaction, I'd also like to point out that the Mariners also finished 11 out of 14 in E's last year.
So they can't hit, can't pitch, and can't field... what exactly are they good at again?
Oh I know, I'm positive the Mariners are 1st in one category, and that's heart!!!
GOOO Mariners, you guys totally rock!Last edited by Lintyfresh85; 04-08-2007, 03:17 AM.http://flotn.blogspot.com

GOOO Mariners, you guys totally rock!
I'm not backing up the Mariners just because they're my team, but because I'm confident that in this league, with the team they have, they can win games and don't really suck all that bad, certainly not as bad as they have the past few years.
Guillen has had many good seasons and there's no reason to think that just because of an injury he won't return to form. He's already shown that his arm is just as strong as ever.
Felix is probably going to be much better this year, as evidenced by many changes in his attitude, appearance, and everything else; Horacio Ramirez is pitching to a league that has trouble against lefties, never wanted Weaver or Batista, but IMHO they aren't bad for #4 or #5 guys -- Weaver of course being the #5 in our rotation. I'd rather have Baek in the rotation and Batista in the BP.
Oh, and why couldn't Baek crack the rotation? Look who's managing the team.
Again, I'm not saying the M's are going to win the west -- not even close, haven't even suggested it, so how can you judge me as if I'm just saying "the M's rock, you suck!". I'm not EVEN SAYING ANYTHING LIKE THAT! That's why this is annoying the hell out of me -- you guys are misunderstanding EVERYTHING that I'm trying to say, and acting as if you have absolutely no faults on your own team. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! It's really annoying when people forget to apply their own judgments of other people to themselves.
I never said my opinion was gospel, I just pointed out that your opinion isn't exactly gospel either.
EDIT: Oh, and BTW, the M's were first in the west when it came to least amount of Errors with only 88 allowed, and that is a hell of a lot less than the 118 the Indians gave up -- check your info. Something tells me that if you were wrong about that one, you were probably wrong about others.Comment
