The way the Managers are treating Bonds with all these walks help me come to this conclusions. Bonds is still the most fear batter in the league. They walk him in the second inning! Give back who get that kind of respect. If pitchers pitch to Bonds like they do A Rod or Albert he would be leading in HR's. Yes he is that good.

Or there may be the off chance that there is nobody in the Giants lineup behind him that makes a manager think twice. How many runners did Durham leave on that one game...68?

Yeah I am sure that is the reason!

He's the only guy that is worth a damn in that lineup, or maybe you see it different. Well of course you do, how foolish of me.

No you are right there. But still he is the best player in the league. So if A Rod was on the Giants they would give him this treatment, interesting, but I think not! Bonds had some great players around him and he still got this treatment. They walk him because they know he will hurt them!

If Bonds was on the Yankees, protected by Abreu, Giambi, and Matsui he would not get walked that much. Even when A-Rod had his monster start, where he would hit 1 out a night, pitchers had to pitch to him because he had Giambi and Posada behind him in the lineup.

                Fixed that for you.

I don't like Bonds, never have and never will but while roids may play a small part in the homer total, you still have to have make solid contact with the proper bat speed and location. Some of the better homer guys in the league right now are not exactly muscle beach guys, but are guys with phenomenal bat speed. Griffey has never been a big guy or has A-Rod yet they can still knock the cover off the ball. So while I hope he does not break the record, I know he will and part of me will cringe but part of me will also respect what he did/continues to do.

But Bonds is the only one of these guys that's capable of not only winning a batting title while hitting 40 or 50+ home runs, but striking out less than the amount of home runs that he hits. This season I believe he has 9 home runs and 10 strike outs, so he can very well do what he used to again.

Barry's only done that in 1 season so I'd say that's less the norm and more of an aberration. It's a great feat in that 1 season, but it is only 1 season out of 21.

It's not like Joe Dimaggio who did that in 6 seasons out of 13.

Sure but the reason is they walk him. If he got pitch to more he would have more HR's and a lower batting Average and would have stike out more.

Exactly. Which makes the feat not as impressive as it was when a player like Joe D accomplished it. Not to mention that Joe D did it in nearly half of his seasons. That's damn impressive IMO.

Yep, Joe was great, but is Joe a power hitter? I will say one thing. Something that Bonds has on any other power hitter. The way the Managers fear him. He has to be one of the most fear batters ever. I mean he gets IBB in the Second inning, he gets IBB with the bases loaded, and he was also IBB in the 9th inning with 2 outs and him being the tyring run! I am mean get out there that is crazy.

I know it will be hard for you to wrap your head around this, but baseball is a far different game than it was back in the day. Some 20 years ago mangers wouldn't have thought twice about pitching to him for a number of reasons.

As far as I can recall he's only been intentionally walked once with the bases loaded. Can somebody tell me what Buck is doing these days, because he sure isn't managing in the bigs?

Joe D had some nice power. He had 1 season with 46 HR's and a 6 with 30+.

OK, but if you were to ask any manager who they fear the most in the NL it would be Bonds! But what ever. Yeah that is pretty good power MJB, I didn't realize he was that much of a power hitter.
