Because managers today are chickens. They hate to be second guessed by the media and the fans, they have no balls. When good old Bucky boy was in Arizona he pulled the ultimate whimp out and walked Bonds with the bases loaded. Tell me, where is he today?

The other thing is that today, most pitchers are afraid to throw it under the chin. Bob Gibson would have put one right under Barry's chin then come back low and away. You do not see most pitchers in today's game doing that. So the hitter can crowd the plate and reach pitches that the great hitters of decades past would not get to.S.O.S Crew

Well honestly, that wouldn't bother Bonds too much, because he has that huge body armor. Gibson could throw it up in there, but he would most likely hit him, and when you are as talented as Bonds is, its not like that is going to take you off your game.Comment

But you just answered it in the guys of today wear all that baby armor. Don Baylor never wore all that armor yet he got plunked more than anyone else. And I am having a hard time recalling someone throwing it up and in on Bonds, although since I don't see alot of Giants games there maybe incidents I dont see during recaps on sports highlights. But it's the whole mindset of today's pitchers. A big majority is afraid or refuses to come inside, be it due to players wearing armor or just not being taught how to do it effectively. Again I respect what Bonds has done but I still think today's watered down and less agressive pitchers have a lot to do with it.S.O.S Crew
