        Re: Predictions for 2003

Can somebody please explain why the Blue Jays are being hyped up as playoff contenders? All I see in them is Halladay, Hinske, Delgado, and ... that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I mean, the Orioles have Daal, Helling, Lopez, Driskill, Julio, and Batista. I see the Orioles having a better shot than the Blue Jays.

            Re: Predictions for 2003

Crusher I can only speak from what I know and from what i've heard. Now bear in mind I may be a little biased.

The Jays have a good solid youthful core in the lineup with Stewart, Wells, Hinske, Delgado, Josh Phelps, and Catalonatto. (sp)

The team also has a youthful starting rotation headed up by Roy Halladay. The addition of Corey Lidle will lessen the load for halladay especially after the All Star break. If the Jays are still in the hunt at that time then it'll be great cuz Lidle is an amazing 2nd half pitcher. We also have 2 young guys in Justin Miller and Pete Walker who showed some flashes of brilliance last season. We should expect some good things out of those 2. I'm a bit confused over the Tanyon Sturtz acquisition but i'm sure JP sees something in Sturtz that others don't.

I've also heard that it's possible the Jays may sign Chuck Finley or a pitcher of his type and age experience to bring some level-headedness in the staff as well as passing on pitching knowledge.

Our bench and bullpen are our biggest weaknesses, especially the bench but I like the signing of Mike Bordick as he's a good veteran the younger players can look up to. The bullpen is very young/full of intangibles but I like Hendrickson and Bowles as they've also shown they can hang in the Bigs. This is also a make it or break it year for Kelvim Escobar to prove that he can be a quality Closer.

One last thing, the Blue Jays philosophy this year is much different from what you saw under Buck Martinez as the Jays will be playing an Oakland A's style of baseball. They'll be looking to work the count and go for the rally.

Well that's enough of that hope it gives you some insight.

Who's hyping? No one on this list has placed the Blue Jays higher than 3rd in the East. Only one person said they'd be in the WC hunt.

Joey, loved to agree on you with the Phils since that's my team, but i don't see them getting to the world series this season, i see them getting to the playoffs, but coming up short only because the bullpen is alittle rough, if we could trade and get a good set-up man then maybe but the bullpen is the only thing that scares me, I Like everything else, Thome for MVP!! like that little catch.

paulywerner, you are out of your mind, there is absolutely no way the Brewers are going to even get close to competing in the NL Central. The Pirates are lousy too, so I'll have to go:

                            NL Central:
                            1. STL - too much talent not to compete for top honors.

                            2. HOU - will challange STL. The addition of Kent was huge, their offense is fantastic, but they're starters are nothing special.

                            3. CHC - My team. The addition of the winning philosophy of Baker, addition of a talented, experienced bullpen in Remlinger, Veres, Guthrie (to a lesser extent), and one of the best rotations in baseball. Wood, Prior, Clement, Estes, and Zambrano, wow. They added depth, but their offense still needs more than Sammy.

                            4. CIN - Don't know much about them other than Griffey needs to step it up.

5,6. - PIT and MIL- These two teams are abysmal. The Pirates trailed the NL in almost every offensive category and only have Giles to maintain respect. You know it's sad when the Cubs send the Brewers they're bad players. Must I remind you of the ex-Cub Brewers from last year - Tyler Houston, Eric Young, Matt Stairs, Jose Hernandez, Ruben Quevedo, Robert Machado, and some other bad pitcher. I'm a Cubs fan, but that's sad. The've only got Sexton and Hernandez to consider themselves a major league team.

                            Just my opinion.

paulywerner, you are out of your mind, there is absolutely no way the Brewers are going to even get close to competing in the NL Central.

The problem is St. Louis has no pitching. They have Morris and that is it in the rotation. Now that Kline is the closer for now, their bullpen just got a lot worse. The sad thing is they'll be the worst pitching team to make the playoffs. The Cubs will be the worst hitting team to make the playoffs
