    most overrated player

Might as well focus on the other side of the spectrum no?

Anyway my pick is Darrin Erstad. This guy gets the kind of coverage you'd expect from a HOF player who embodies everything great in baseball. Granted, the guy does play with reckless abandon but he's by no means the great ballplayer that the media portrays him to be.

Richie Sexson. Is turning in to this generation's Rob Deer.

For awhile it was Bobby Crosby. People (Peter Gammons) talking about him as an MVP candidate, but he's never hit above .276.

Sexson will finish the year .250+ average, .350+ OBP, with 35 HRs.

Hitter: Alfonso Soriano - Can't play a lick of defense, he has no plate discipline, and he has never hit over .301 in season.

Pitcher: Ben Sheets - First of all he has injury issues. He had one phenomenal year in 2004, since then, and before then, he hasn't been anything close to an ace.

Sheets has injury issues, but with the exception of this season the guy has been a damn good pitcher when healthy.

I would agree with BK regarding Sexson. He's overrated and way overpriced. I'd pick Michael Young as the most overrated batter though.

He's been bashed on this board many times, but Barry Zito is still the most overrated pitcher. He's not even an average pitcher any more.

Erstad is a good pick if there are people out there who still think he is good.

Sheets, maybe, but only because of the injuries. When he's healthy he isn't overrated.

I agree with Soriano for sure, except for his contract year last year he hasn't been that good since he left New York.

Sexson, I'm not sure how people really view him. He's decent.

Young is a good player. Might be a little overrated though since I do remember people talking about him like he is the best shortstop in the league.

He is overrated. It's impossible for him to actually perform up to the perception that the media has built up for him. Clutch at the plate and Ozzie Smith in the field, OMG HE'S THE G.O.A.T!!!

Zito, pretty curveball, highest paid pitcher ever, middle-of-the-rotation production.

Soriano did lead the league in OF assists last year. I think the guy is actually playing a pretty good outfield for only being out there for a little over a year. I agree he doesn't have any discipline at the plate. Tell me another 30/30 player that hits over .300. I personally think the guy is overrated but only because he got paid more money than he's actually worth. Saying Soriano is overrated is a bit harsh coming from a man thats defending Richie Sexson.

Derek Jeter is a great player, and a future deserving hall of famer, probably first ballot.

Soriano's arm was tested early and often last season, as well as there being a boatload of opportunities (the only 2 teams with higher ERAs were in the AL).

It's actually pretty easy when the media tries to play him off as one of the greatest players ever. When in reality he shouldn't even be in the discussion.

                        Great player? Absolutely.

One of the best ever? Not even close.

Looks like they're trying to test him again as he already has 2 this season. Including a game saving gunning down of a runner at the plater this year. The dude has a very strong and accurate arm. Remember he came up as a shortstop.

Both of his assists were in the same game, kind of strange.
