I can't imagine an October without the Yankees. It would just be strange.

eh, they've beaten chicago and pittsburgh, both sub .500 teams. let's see how they do against good teams.

fair enough... but Boston was also struggling during that stretch. let's see how they do in the next series vs. good american league teams.

Very true, that was a pretty cushy way to welcome Roger back into the game. (Against the Pirates.)

You can only play what's on the schedule. It's better than losing these games. Wins are wins are wins. If they are going to make the playoffs, they will have to win the majority of the series, so these past 3 series are a good jumping off point.

More than any other year since 1998 (I've been a Yankee fan since birth--1975, but only really remember 81 and on), I have have this feeling that this is a great team. Giambi going down, really helped the lineup out, if that makes sense. Melky in CF and Damon at DH (and healthy) has really jumpstarted the offense. Now, if Abreu can learn how to track a flyball, we'd be in great shape.

i completely agree with the first part. but having said that, they still have to beat the "good" teams too, in order to get to the playoffs. my argument is that the yanks can beat the so called 'bad teams', but aren't up to snuff against the good ones. will they beat good teams here and there? of course, it's baseball. but overall, they just don't have the team to win enough to make the playoffs.

Fair enough. You may be right. We'll see come September. Either way, it is going to be an interesting summer in the BX.

The only difference is obviously how well Boston is doing this year, compared to 2005. Hopefully we can get it down to 5 or 6 games by the end of the month.

And in 2005 they got near Cy-Young outings out of Shawn Chacon and Aaron Small. They can't count on something like that happening again.

I'm not a Yankee fan so don't think I'm being a homer, but streaks (be it hitting, pitching or winning) have to start somewhere and if it comes against the Pirates and White Sox of the league then so be it. Their current streak looks to be the first time all season that their hitting and pitching have both played well at the same time for this long a stretch since the start of the season. Clemens, Wang, Pettitte, and Mussina with that line-up is pretty good any way you slice it.

I wouldn't count them out just yet.

Yes, but they were replacement starters who took over for guys who were hurt or sucked like Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright.

This year's rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Clemens, Clippard is much better than the rotation in 2005 with Wang, Mussina, Chacon, Small, and Wright.

Six in a row!!!!! Nice batting practice game today...Is there anyone on the Pirates staff that can throw hard? With Abreu hitting now, Arod might have about 85 RBI & 80 Runs Scored by All Star Break, he has 63 RBI and 56 Runs now. Can't believe these yahoo clowns didnt even mention him for 1st half MVP (Yahoo Sports)...enough ranting...Go Yanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's that got to do with anything? I don't see anyone in that group of five, with the exception of maybe Pettite, pitching the way either of those two replacements pitched in '05. My initial point anyways was that what happened in '05 was not something that happens often. It makes little sense from a logical standpoint to sight that season as something that can be easily duplicated this year.
