The Yankees go as far as Abreu takes them. By that I mean him hitting in the 3 spot ahead of A-Rod and getting on base for him. He was hot during that early June run boosting his average from the .230's up towards .280. Since then he dropped back into the .240's and the Yankees have lost. I saw the games at SF and really we had nothing to worry about even though A-Rod was on fire, there was noone to drive in. I don't know what Torre was thinking putting Cano in the 3 spot yesterday. He needs to just leave Abreu in the 3 spot as he won't do any better elsewhere

Actually it's Damon, not Abreu. The Yankees are an offense without a spark when Damon is hurt or not producing. They can get by without Abreu (by putting Matsui in the three-hole) but they can't without Damon because that leaves us friggen Melky leading off.

Hopefully Abreu is going to start turning it around now, he went 3-4 tonight with a monster homerun that went way up in the upper deck.

Clemens pitches an 8 inning 2 hitter for his 350th win, but A-Rod leaves the game with a strained hamstring. It didn't look that bad and he didn't leave immediately so hopefully he won't have to go on the DL. We can't afford to lose him for 2+ weeks.

The Yankees termed it a “strained hamstring” which is significant. Usually teams try and go with euphemisms like “pull” or “discomfort.” It’s also in the upper part of the hamstring, where the muscles are thickest. That’s usually more serious than the lower part of the hamstring.
“It could have been a lot worse, I crashed into him pretty hard,” Rodriguez said.
Alex left the clubhouse with his leg wrapped and will be examined by a doctor tomorrow. I would think that would include an MRI. He said he could not have scored from second on a base hit, which is why he asked out of the game.
We won’t know more until tomorrow but the Yankees will be lucky if A-Rod doesn’t go on the disabled list.

What a debut for Edwar Ramirez, striking out the side. He looked sick.

Only one inning but maybe we have some bullpen help.

Nice win.

And in the minors, another dominant performance from Chamberlain 6 innings 4 hits 1 walk 0 runs 12 K's. We might have another top 5 pitching prospect.

Yeah, Ramirez had crazy good numbers in the minors, something around 1.5 K/IP I think. They need to call up Britton and get him some work also because they can't be much worse than Proctor, Farnsworth, and Vizcaino are now.

Nice time for the Yankees to have a series vs. the Twins because they have owned the Twins for the past few years. Too bad they play the Angels next.
