Take a look at Ramirez's home/road splits, they're skewed ever so slightly.

At this point it isn't terribly surprising when the Twins turn a turd into a prince.

Sweep the Angels and hope the M's do the same to the Twins and you'll be in the Wild Card lead.

Yankees lose to the Tigers 16-0 tonight, and are now 8 back headed into their series with the Red Sox.

Hey, I'm glad to be eating crow right now. Maybe the Yankees did just get hot feasting off the terrible teams. They aren't playing like a playoff caliber team right now. 16-0 in one of the most important games of the season?

Eh, it's Mussina pitching and the tail end of a road trip against two Top 5 teams in the AL, plus the 3:30am game I'm sure isn't helping them.

Are people that soon to forget that we smoked Cleveland and Detroit less than 10 days ago?

Right now I'd say there's no chance in hell we can win the division, but you never know. We could win 5 outta 6 against Boston and make things interesting.

That only gives you 4 games, you would still need to make up 4 more games. trust me, unless you guys sweep all 6 games, there is no shot in hell of you guys taking the division. That being said, I'm still gonna wait until after this upcoming series to declare you out.

In from the obvious department...we're in trouble, Mike Mussina sucks, these next 10 days are so important.

                      Re: Have a feeling.....Yankees

Yankees are 8 back in the AL East, 2 back in the Wild Card. Their next 9 games are probably the most important stretch for the team. They face off against the Red Sox at home the next three nights (to try to get within five =P), then get to knock around Tampa Bay, and then in a tremendously important series will face off against the Mariners for another three games at home. That series could be the most important three games they play down the stretch. Anyway, on to fun with numbers...

                      Team ERA (AL, season):

                      1st - Boston - 3.71, 515 runs allowed
                      8th - New York - 4.56, 634 runs allowed

Team ERA (AL, since AS break):

                      2nd - Boston - 3.60, 169 runs allowed
                      10th - New York - 4.94, 241 runs allowed

I seem to remember some posters claiming that New York's pitching was much improved in the second half and that the guys who were once again healthy would make big contributions. Not so much. They've been just shy of allowing five earned runs a game since the break although most of that has been in August. They were pretty much league average in July.

Yeah, the Yankees second half success has nothing to do with pitching and everything to do with the offense catching fire.

I didn't think we'd win the division. Made it pretty close but it we were in too big of a hole.

Doesn't matter though because we are only 2 out of the wildcard, and getting in is all that counts. I still feel pretty good about our chances there.

Streaks can be stopped on a dime. I'm not saying the Sox are still a lock, but spare me the pre-mature Yanks division dance.
I don't do this often but, ahem, I was off by one game.

It was the first few weeks after the All-Star break during their hot streak. Since then it's been as if the starting rotation has been passing around a "I'll suck for three straight starts" card. Pettitte was awful for a few starts, then Wang and now Moose.

Hughes has been fine considering he's 21 and our 5th starter. And Henn is just killing us in the 'pen.

I am man enough to concede this point. At the time when we were "going at it", the pitching was much improved, but like what was said already, they decided to suck for the last 3 turns and revert back to before numbers-wise. I still like this rotation better than the one of Pavano, Pettitte, Rasner, Karstens, and fuzzy bellybutton lint (who in hindsight did perform better than Mussina has).
